I’m fascinated with the Amish. I took a buggy ride with a chatty elder Amish man the last time I was up there. He answered all our questions and talked about how they really don’t cut off communication with relatives who leave the religion. That was nice to hear.
The bakery in this video is the number 1 bakery in that area. There whoopie pies, bread, rolls, pies, and cakes are amazing. Hope you all got to try some of there baked goods.
@@theappalachianchannel Truth be told my husband and I love ALL of your content. We've been thinking about moving South and y'all are definitely helping us make the choice
I am truly fascinated by the wonderful places you visit. The old stores, the old ways, just everything you feature is new to me, and I wish we could all live a simpler, healthier, courteous and natural life. Thank you for showing us around.
One thing that strikes me about the Amish Country you filmed is how clean and neat everything is. Things are well maintained and manicured. I didn't see any litter. The rest of the country could do well, to take after the Amish in that regard.
I'm glad that y'all are in PA! It's the forgotten Appalachia. After visiting the Gettysburg area, head about two hours west to Bedford. Lots of history! Revolutionary War, French & Indian War, and Civil War soldiers walked these mountains. Coal mines, steel mills, and farming were the normal way of life here. Many people view east Tennesse/western North Carolina as "Appalachia", which it is. However, there is so much more to Appalachia to explore! Don't forget about us! Love your channel!
That was so cute when Jody was feeding the goats, the big ones wanted all the treats. And the way she was talking to them. The babies were standing back just watching. Love your videos, John. It's like we're all there with you, you do a fantastic job! Happy traveling you two. Thanks for taking us along on your journeys. Watching from Missouri.
They are so beautiful I had a good friend who belonged to this community and so polite fantastic manners true gentlemen ladies. And so talented in the making of their foods and goods. I love them so much they are the best.
Lovely beyond lovely ❤….can I take an “online Amish course “ and move in ? Lol 😆. If not , well a buggy ,hat ,horse, white crisp shirt and suspenders…and a great attitude about people life and religion (any)…….will DO IT ! Lol 😮
Jody and John, I love your channel. The places you visit are beautiful. I live in Northeast Tennessee and enjoy traveling on your videos. Thank you for all the hard work.
Love it up there. We drive up from Va at least once a year to go the the shops. If you ever go back, try Lapp Valley Farm for fresh homemade ice cream and try Achenbach Pastries in Leola, Pa. for Long Johns and Whoopie Pies.
Wow I have brought Amish families in this area to weddings and have visited many of the shops along 340 and 772. Awesome memories you've evoked with this video. I love it.
Other things in the area that are great to visit is Riehl’s Quilts and Crafts. It is a very nice store where over 100 Mennonite and Amish families come together and sell all there homemade things in. It isn’t far from Bird in Hand bakery where you all visited. Sight and Sound does amazing productions. The Li’l Country Store and Mininature Horse Farm, Dieners Restaurant, Kitchen Kettle Village, Kauffman’s Fruit Farm (has best apple cider), National Christmas Center Museum, BB’s Grocery Outlet, Roots is on Tuesday and is big farmers market, and Green Dragon is on Fridays and is a big farmers market. There is so much to see in Lancaster County. Hope you enjoyed your trip. Goods Store which is right across from Shady Maple Market is like a Mennonite Walmart but is really nice and different than Walmart.
Such a shame you didn't make your way to lapp valley cafe in Gordonville (about another 20 minutes down Rt 340). It has EXCELLENT sandwiches and atmosphere
I have been there. Some time ago now.The Amish have restaurants. They seated us next to a German family at a huge, long wooden table. They announced we were from Ireland visiting so everyone can share experiences. Thoroughly enjoyable. The food was amazing. Been there a few times.Worth the trip.
I wish our government would work on demolishing old buildings and houses that have fallen into ruin, all over the country. Work with the owners, but if it's abandoned or a safety hazard, tear it down. Our country needs to be cleansed of all these eyesores.
everytime i hear that music and see them homes i cant help remembering the TV series the civil war by Ken Burnes, a lot of these places saw terrible times and its a good thing to see its peacefull and respectable UNLIKE Sydney Australia where i live. Its Un civilized, Has no Culture and has become a rat race and i need to travel 3 hours west to see civility like this video. Thanks mate Steve in Australia.
Everyone knows not to film or photograph the Amish. Did you have special permission. Incredibly rude even if they weren’t Amish. Stopping video. Return email notifications not available at this time.
@@theappalachianchannel Very concerned having lived among the Amish and Mennonite communities and frequented their markets for many years in Pa. Would be a good idea to mention permission in your video so other tourists who don’t understand, stick a camera in their face. And if you did mention it and I missed it, then I apologize.

02:49 I thought the Amish didn't like being filmed, i noticed you got a look or have i watched too many movies.
I was given permission to film. I never film without asking permission.

I'm from Philly and frequent this exact location several times a year.
I love Bird in Hand bakery! If I lived closer I’d be their daily!
The Amish seem to have adapted into very astute business people.
I love this place! Favorite county to visit!
