Thank you for this. I am just starting our permaculture journey down here in Arkansas with my husband and our two boys. Starting with design and ready to learn from nature!
my old Geology Professor used to say "Nature to be commanded, must first be obeyed." Quite possibly one of my favorite quotes and certainly applies to the principles of permaculture. Love your videos! So much great information
it really is one of the best videos, i couldnt point the finger on any particular element but the whole style and concept together are just really good.
Hi my name is Patricia Smith, I am for Mobile Alabama. I love to watch his shows on permaculture the work he did was amazing. Thank you for sharing this. And I love watching your show that well here is awesome
I love how you combine Permaculture and the Back to Eden methods, My husband and I will be buying several acres within the year and I want to emulate what you are doing, I find sharp rows and squares become offensive to my very creative nature. I do plan on adding some whimsy in my garden. Thanks for sharing your passion!
I would love more of these types of videos!! These are the things we need to learn and practice in order to make positive changes in the growing industry 🤙💚
Yes, James, the videos keep getting better! You are doing better. I love the permaculture tips. One at a time, let’s me absorb and apply. I can’t express how much I like the gardening show!
Man I'm digging it. I learn lots of things every one of your vids. Mucho props to your brother. The vids are definitely getting better and better, but I just thought it was a practice makes perfect thing, not your Bro filming. Rockin. Thanks!
Thanks James! Very informative. I'm still a new subby but from watching your older vids to new y'all are doing a great job and the content and filming are definitely improving. I'm about to start work on a bare, no tree, 2 acres so I have a lot of studying to do!
More Tuck! and tell your brother we appreciate him. It never hurts to learn more about permaculture, you will have time now that it is winter and not so much to do outside.
they have some great tips that we can use for our garden next year. i think you might also like our channel to if you would like to check out our channel as well
I really think you should do more on this as well. There is a lot of research and writing about the west coast and tropical areas. It's hard to find permaculture design artist working on our coast
Both you and your brother are very talented! Tuck too😊🐶❣️ I have watched almost all of Geoff Lawtons videos also on Vimeo. He is an amazing teacher. I have watched a university course given by him and Bill Mollison and his talent and skills for teaching surpasses most I have ever seen. Bill Mollison, on the other hand, is very difficult to learn from. Some of Geoff Lawton’s videos are really so inspiring and beautiful. Yours are getting to be that way too!
Awesome!! Thanks so much Nikolassh! It’s so cool to hear you have been following along for a while. People like you are the reason I make these videos 😁
That is a unique way of putting the third ethic, mostly we say "Fair Share", as in only take what you need and share your surplus. I suppose it could include population, but I think it is broader than that :)
Thank you for this good content. I'm a NEW SUBBIE to your channel and only found it by researching permaculture. I'm already set to move forward with permaculture because I prefer sustainable farming and frugal living. However, after watching your video, it made me think what is the difference of polyculture to permaculture? It seems they're both sustainable but which one is better in living with a small garden in the city or farm subdivision in the tropics (Philippines)? I'm also planning to have vertical gardening/farming that will serve as a windbreaker/living canvas among other things. Back story, I'm living in Canada at the moment but saving money to retire in the Philippines. In general, retirement or not my bigger picture is to address food poverty and living sustainably either from advocation or promotion. I thought gardening is not my strength but it helps me to fight my depression and gen. anxiety, plus this is my step to decrease my carbon footprint the way I can without being a vegan or vegetarian. I'm learning and researching the best ways to acheive my goals, please help.
I also enjoyed this video. Do more, I also like you garden videos also. Keep it mixed up. And your brother does a great job with the videos also. Have a good day guys.
Thank you my friend. Just cause through the reading and videos I have seen of Bill he doesn’t seem to mention Holgrem much. I always thought Holgrem was more of a student who helped him to write the book and add some ideas. I believe Bill is the one who came up with the idea of Permaculture 😁
That's true, plus Mollison has done quite a bit to spread the message of Permaculture. I'm sure it was also difficult to keep up with his gregarious personality. 😁
Tree leaves are such an easy and FREE garden fertilizer. Several of my neighbors actually burn them in the Fall and I am like NOOOO! Give me your leaves!
Yeah they are! If they burn just the leaves you can take the ash and add it to your compost pile, ash is like pure condensed minerals. Be careful adding it directly to the garden though because it is too concentrated and will Cause an imbalance 😁
good video I think it'd be cool if you did go over the principles and maybe some of the words and give us definitions maybe each episode you can pick a permaculture word and Define it for us.
I get what it is. How it helps me and the environment but from someone who has no idea about plants trees and minimum veg experience it's confusing. I'm uk and have an area with clay soil. It's currently sitting with compost, chicken poop, straw and other comppstable materials. Chicken are on it all the time. I want to start but I don't understand the design in it. I have a garden facing east at bottom of garden. Please help me as I don't have the money for books and my library and Internet aren't helping it sink in.
Yep they went around and learned about indigenous agricultural practices, compiled everything, and called it theirs (permaculture). Very Columbus of them. Great video as usual though.
And not a word about Dave Holmgren. The idea came from collaboration of them, only Dave took a step back to test and develop it, whilst Bill took it to the world.
I really love the content of the video, but why does it sound like there’s a question mark at the end of everything he says. It sounds like he’s asking a question each sentence.
@@jamesprigioni I’m sorry, I hope it didn’t bother you! I looked it up and it’s called up-talk, and common in different groups and regional areas, so it might just sound odd to me.
The ideas behind permaculture were not bill mollisons, which he even states. The ideas were practiced by the indigenous Australians, the aboriginals. Bill mollisons collected the ideas while writing extensive genealogies of indigenous Australians. Bill created the term permaculture and brought it into modern day design.
This is a great format James especially to do now in the winter enjoy getting back outside with you though I was a little disturbed by one of the three principles of permaculture it looks like its population control are we talking about some of these crazy ideas of human population control I'm not sure it just is unsettling to me please enlighten me thanks
Thanks Steve. Yeah it will a lot nicer filming inside where it’s warm 😂 Yeah, I’m not a big fan of that ethic. I think it’s misunderstood. The idea is really about focusing on creating a better environment for future generations, and not just take take take. Recently the community has changed the third ethic to “fair sharing”, but I wanted to present the information in the way that Bill did. His original writing was these three ethics. It’s not like population control let’s kill people. It’s like, let’s take a step back and see how many people can we sustainably have living in a area. Example would be setting a population max on a city so that it doesn’t become a huge consumer, but he wants everything to provide its own needs.
HONESTLY I WISH I KNEW THIS WELL! THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE PRESIDENT AND IMPLEMENTED INTO THE EDUCATION SYSTEM TAUGHT OVER THE ENTIRE 12 YEARS OF EDUCATION. THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM WOULD CHANGE EVERYTHING INCLUDING GLOBAL WARMING! JUST THINK IF PUBLIC PARKS WERE FOOD FOREST INSTEAD. THIS WOULD SERIOUSLY SOLVE A LOT OF THER WORLDS ISSUES! SORRY FOR CAPS.🤗
I would only use it if you ate a clean diet with no antibiotics and stuff. But I wouldn’t just add it in the garden I would add it to a compost pile and allow it to break down before I used it. I don’t add anything super concentrated to the garden, that forms an imbalance.
You can use it diluted at 1/5 or 1/10, for instance, with water in the garden, there is no problem, also it's recommended to stop 3-4 weeks before harvest. I've even seen a video of a guy peeing directly on a row of weak (compared to the other rows he had) carrots several times and the carrots were great after a few weeks, as tall as the other rows.
I'm sorry, but there is just so much chatter in this video that I'm not even sure if you've told me what it is or not after 3 minutes. Not to mention my mind and attention is constantly wondering away because the focus of this video is non existent. Is this a discussion on all things garden with an eventual mention of what premature is? Your video is labeled wrong.
Thank you for this. I am just starting our permaculture journey down here in Arkansas with my husband and our two boys. Starting with design and ready to learn from nature!

One of your best videos!!!!! Yes please, do more.
Awesome! I’m glad you liked it 😁
I saw Lawton's "Greening The Desert" video and was fascinated and hooked from that moment on! Great video...thank you!

Love your videos man! More permaculture videos please.
Amazing concept. I want more. Shout out to your brother
Excellent video. A great addition to the Permaculture dialogue. Just curious as to why no mention of Dave Holmgren? Keep up the good work.

I love what y’all are doing! I live in Southern California can you give me ideas on where to start?
This is so interesting 👍
Palmetto paratrooper, that has to be the best garden meme ever. Love it
good video I think it'd be cool if you did go over the principles and maybe some of the words and give us definitions maybe each episode you can pick a permaculture word and Define it for us.
Terrific video. I love your chicken, where did it come from? Did you make it?
Thank you!! I actually got it from an estate sale locally. I saw it and really liked it 😁

Well said!
Nice editing mate !
Thank you my friend. It will only get better in the future 😁😁
Damn! Looks like my tiller is going up for sale lol. Great channel, looking forward to watching all of your videos.
Hahah 😂
You can use the money to buy trees. No more gasoline smell and ripping up the soil 🤑👏
Oh! Hello, brother of James! 😍 Now we know who's taking the vids
Yep they went around and learned about indigenous agricultural practices, compiled everything, and called it theirs (permaculture). Very Columbus of them. Great video as usual though.
Well done James
Thanks John 😁😁
just found your channel. looks awesome. i'm subscribed now and set up to get alerts when you post. :)
Thanks Justin! Awesome, it’s great to have you following along. Feel free to leave any questions or anything 😁

The Gardening Channel With James Prigioni+ Have you read Fukuoka's book titled ONE STRAW REVOLUTION?
Yup! That was one that inspired me to grow using natural methods. I was thinking about possibly doing an episode about that book or about Fukuoka. 😁
The Gardening Channel With James Prigioni+ Yep! Give Fukuoka his just acknowledgement! I enjoy hearing on TH-cam what you have to present about him!
Keep up the great work James (and your brother) Do you have a Patreon I can support?
Have you ever thought about growing Buddha's hand Citrus into your design?
The chicken on the desk James
That's all...I love, love, but nolonger have headache. thank you.
Why did you stop the shows?
Hey buddy, you forgot the link to the Jeff Lawton video you showed some of.
It's there under the video. th-cam.com/video/YZDnKwHQBp8/w-d-xo.html
The third ethic has been updated to "return of surplus". Great video though!
Thanks for this!
Like your videos
Thank you my friend. I love making them

that question remains after watching this video

Why would you plant bamboo! It will over take EVERYTHING.
