- Filmed in a Hall of Mirrors in Bellevue, Manchester on 12 March 1977 - a great location for a man who could not pass a mirror! - Soul Of My Suit was the lead single from the final T.Rex album Dandy in the Underworld. T.Rex played the Apollo Theatre in Manchester on the previous evening.
This is the final promo video shot by Marc Bolan before his tragic death. The video was never broadcast on television in the UK, finally surfacing from the EMI vaults in 1999.
Released on 18 March 1977, towards the end of the T.Rex tour of the UK, the single just missed the top 40, reaching 42 on the singles chart.
This is a woefully undervalued song in his catalogue. Never has got the love it deserved.

I was Trex fan back in 1971 to 1977 aged 19 i was 13 when i got into Marc bolan and still am to this day and now im 62 my love for Marc bolan and Trex has never died went to Golders Green in 2018 to pay my repects to my biggest pop idol Marc bolan he was the greatest ever we had back in the 1970s when music was at its highest 🎶🎶🎵🎵👌✌️👍🇬🇧

Why is everyone saying he died in Golders Green? I went to the memorial while staying in a Golders Green hotel. It's clear across town. Took more than an hour to get there on mass transit. Am I tripping?
I’ve never been but don’t people put ribbons round the tree and flowers etc,,,,maybe the tree isn’t there anymore 🤷♀️ he is one fascinating beautiful human being and he was really a poet.....his music lives on in my heart. We love you marc❤❤❤❤❤
@@mikeyg8002 Marcs grave is in golders green cemetry there is a bench with a swan carved in the wood and a plaque on the wall near the entrance.
There's a reason someone gets all likes and no thumbs down. Totally unique, gorgeous man and a great guitarist who inspired many including Johnny Marr. Glitter wise even Bowie learned a thing or two from Marc. You are so missed. Nothing today comes close to you.

Remember listening to this as a 16 year old kid...absolutely love this song, and remains my all time favourite.. at the time of first hearing it I remember I was disappointed in how short the song was.. that was my only gripe :) I wanted it to go on for longer. :)

Until today i am a big Marc Bolan fan. For me, time stood still on September 16, 1977. Countless times, on every business trip to London, I have visited Golders Green and the accident site on the Queens Ride. RIP Marc, you are one of the Greatest ever.

Is it true that I hear the shrine to the tree is sadly not there no more? If so, who did and why did they take it down please? I also hear that Marc and his girlfriend Gloria Jones were both drunk, when they got into their car. I though it was just a failure to negotiate an icy bend, or something similar.
@@timbayliss4153 I heared the same with the alcohol. But after 47years no one can say what is the truth or not. But something must happened. The road is straight where the accident happened. Maybe she slept for a second? No one knows it. And no one can give an answer.
One of the most under rated songs in the T.Rex catalogue , brilliant guitar piece in the niddle 8, and a great version on Rollin Bolan !!

I found Marc when I was at school. Vaguely remember him on top of the pops.......love, love love him. He was fascinating and I was in love with him when I was about 14..... I even went out with a guy that looked like him lol. Obsessed!....I’m 55 now...

Marc had been through a rough few years but this was him back with a bang. One of his best songs. Morrissey was listening, the influence is obvious here. Marvellous footage.

Yes, Marc was a huge influence on Prince. That video has 2004 Prince written all over it. It's too bad the moment when Prince hit the scene, Marc was checking out. Imagine if those two would have met or performed on stage together just for one moment. It would have been a blast.

He always so enjoyed the performance. I always heard a bit of Talking Heads’ Road to Nowhere in this. He’s hugely influential and never received the recognition due to him at the time

I was going to say 'sorry to have to say this' but thinking about it I'll skip the apology. I hate the Gloria Jones period, There are some songs I just can't listen to, in my opinion she ruined loads of good recordings with her wailing and banging that tambourine. I'll leave it at that.

@mikeyg8002 Maybe in the 2000's, but in the 80's and 90's, no. The reason why I said it. It's because of their egos. Don't me wrong, Marc was maturing in 1977 and he was already over came his ego at 28. Prince on the other hand waited til he was 40 just after he joined the Jehovah. For me, if they were gonna perform together prior the 2000's, I believe Marc would have reach out for Prince more than Prince would have reach out on him.

He looked better than ever here! Not that fond of the song though. Can't quite put my finger on it. I mean, it is interesting and quite different from most other Bolan songs. Maybe its the drum+bass rhythm, maybe the "rock and rolled it"-chorus, maybe the guitar solo? I don't know, but there something bagpipish and quirky about it. The verse melody is really neat though.

I love this song, but whoever directed this video needs a stern talking to. I hate the Funhouse mirror, and I hate that Marc is standing still. He needs to be moving. I could’ve done a better job of directing it, I swear.
