    Hi,
What a brave, brave man I for one am glad I was born and grew up (born 1966) to have know, and privileged to have got to speak to many from that generation that had to fight against the evil that was Hitler and his Nazi party and a pity that a nation was duped into a war by them.
May they all rest in peace and thank you all.

I humbly watch these videos and admire the courage these young men had within themselves.
Like many other Lancs, Sir Oliver fell victim to a night fighter while on the level aiming for that nights target.
My father was a bomb aimer in 467SQN targeting a railway junction at Rivingy Sur Mur (?) when on approach to target they were hit. Inner port engine caught fire and crew ordered to bail out.
Tail gunner killed, mid upper survived. Nav and radio operator along with dad ( bomb aimer ) evaded capture.
Flight engineer lost his legs below the knee from the tail plane when he apparently jumped up leaving the aircraft.
Pilot Tom Davies was found in the wreckage, having flown the stricken Lanc over Rivingy onto an open area away from the villiage.
    R.I.P all of them now.

My cousin Phillipe Turgel was shot down in Lancaster LM320 over Holland. He was 22 and a Squadron leader 1 Squadron. These fellows were beyond brave in my humble opinion. The horror they must have experienced is beyond my comprehension. Terrible waste of humanity war is. Thank you Sir for your service. You will not be forgotten.

An amazing tale from an amazing man. Sadly, his passing (in June of this year) has just been reported in today's Daily Telegraph. But all-in-all, it sounds as if he had a good innings and he has my thanks (and I'm sure many others' too) for his service to his country.

It's an extraordinary chapter of that awful war that Sir Oliver was flung clear, beating all survival odds on impact. And that's just Part One. Part Two was, after landing in this field, fairly busted up, eludes the SS, eventually betrayed, POW'd, escapes, and makes it back to England, walking through the door at the family household. It's Per Ardua Ad Astra for real. Ought to be a movie.

There is a famous night fighter who said they shot into the wings, on the return flight too, in order to give the crew a chance to bale out. This after carpet bombing (de-housing they euphemistically called it).
