      Also, video fails to acknowledge the high end 4 stars that are on the roster too. Derrick Moore was a Top 50 player in his class coming out of high school, as was the same for Donovan Edwards. Kenneth Grant was a 3 star, and a “Gift from the Football Gods”. Staff has a knack for finding, evaluating and developing that home grown talent

    I’m 67 years old, and a life long Michigan football fan. The 2023 season was THE most thrilling season of football I’ve ever witnessed! I’m sure it’ll look different in the 2024 season with Harbaugh gone, and McCarty and Corum gone. But so glad that Edwards is coming back. I was also so happy the Moore was named head coach! Stars don’t matter, especially not in the trenches. Michigan won the natty because they had the best culture in college football, which led to one of the most resilient and tough teams in the last 10 years. Other teams may have had 5 stars but Michigan ran an nfl style scheme where they played to their strengths and eliminated talent. We had the toughest team in the cfb, the best, most complex defense, and the best coach and defensive coordinator that year. The argument that Michigan shouldn’t have won because of their lack of talent or because they didn’t play Georgia is utter BS

    I agree, completely never thought it would happen without all the five stars that most national champions have had in the playoff era, Clemson being one of the only exceptions, but they had more than Michigan did,and when you add to that that they won a national title by running off tackle up the middle into a loaded box with Blake Corum that was basically there offensive That’s why against any good team they played down the stretch they often sputtered at times and people kept saying that Michigan office was nonexistent for 2 quarters for example, in the Rose Bowl that was just the way they played. They knew even if you stop them they find a way to win because of their defense remarkable national championship not the best team of the playoff era, but the most remarkable national title because of the way they did it on the field And the low five star ratio

Leaders. They have to play for eachother and themselves. Each player is a leader and taught to bet on themselves. That's why 30 of these guys from that team if not more will be drafted. Michigans players were like coaches on the field. They just do it different up there so if I'm a parent or a kid who wants to go pro that's where I'm going. He was the best running back in the country last year and they had edwards too. They were gonna have the best offensive line in the country and JJ was gonna be really good. If you look at it all they obviously gonna be super good. I would say they fell short of expectations for me. I mean their running game took a decent step back and so did their O line. I would say the passing game met expectations and so did the defense tho maybe they were a little short of them. I going into the year didn't think they would have a single game where they left it within one score.

    Game plan, coaching and player development. Great video.
    But here’s a question: which is more often better, a 5* out of high school or a 4* developed with around 1000 snaps in a game?
    Michigan had nearly nobody transfer out and a huge amount that elected to stay another year instead of going to the draft. What this ultimately meant is your 2nd and 3rd string players were all seasoned veterans as well. So there was little detriment and tons of upside in cycling in line players to stay fresh.
    The other great thing for these linemen in the draft, high snap count, but far more fresh than a lot of others they’re competing against. Longevity is also taken into account when drafting for a NFL team.

    As a Michigan fan I see this sort of thing happen all the time…against us…in the sport of hockey. Michigan is the (insert SEC power here) when it comes to recruiting 5-star NHL prospects whose draft rights are secured by the time they’re 18, but they haven’t won the NCAA championship in that sport since 1998. The teams they lose to are typically smaller programs with less talented recruiting classes, but they tend to maintain a core of older players who play together longer and aren’t typically distracted by playing for their Under 20 national teams or negotiating for pro contracts on the side. Michigan basically has two years to get the most out of their incoming hockey classes before the top end of them sign their NHL contracts. They never have the cohesion that the championship teams with the older players who are used to playing longer with each other do.
    Or that Michigan’s 2023 football team (Team 144) did.

    You can thank the transfer portal, a CFB Playoff and NIL for this. The consolidation of talent at the 5 major programs, who were already funneling money to student athletes, is no longer exclusive to them. I find it interesting that Nick Saban retires the minute that the chickens come home to roost and Alabama can't hoard a third of the top 100 players on their roster anymore. Nick Saban is still the CFB goat, but you can't tell me that the last 20 years of college football dominance by a handful of programs was due to college football "just meaning more" in a certain area of the country. Especially now, after the well documented money funneling scheme E SEC P N had cooking for years but vehemently denied. College football is currently a completely unmitigated disaster. Yet, I get the strange feeling that going forward, the game will finally be played on its most even playing field to date.

    • @HyzersGR
      @HyzersGR 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. Saban is the goat because of his ability to "convince" all the top players to sign with Alabama. His coaching acumen isn't heads and tails above a whole bunch of other coaches. How many games did he face an opponent while being at a talent disadvantage while being at Alabama?

    • @RedWingsninetyone
      @RedWingsninetyone 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Saban said there were two main reasons he retired. One being he's getting too old. He felt that he needed to be younger to spend the energy it took to get this Alabama team back on track and felt that if he were younger he would have probably had a different play in mind in OT against Michigan. The second was in player meetings after the season, the players were more concerned with how much they were going to make and how they would be assured playing time or they'd transfer away. They weren't at all interested in development for both football and real life. He and his wife both talked about it just before he made the decision to retire.

    • @baecotte
      @baecotte 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Saban’s final press conference kind of says a lot about the negatives of it. I agree with you, though, that he was milking it then and is sad now that its everywhere. Michigan was one of the least penalized teams in the country, with an elite defense, and the best turnover margin. They didn't beat themselves (although they tried to on ST against Bama). Their strength and conditioning program was elite (it's unusual to know the name of the S&C coach but I know Ben Herbert). Their offense was balanced being able to do everything while only exceptional in running the ball and it helped to have a QB who could run at an elite level when needed though that wasn't a regular part of their gameplan. It's a testament to how you can win with a slightly less talented squad.

    A) Some players were criminally under ranked coming out of HS on this team. They should have been and sure as shit played like 5*s. Grants and Graham specifically.
    B) Sports Radio and First take are always funny when they do some canned “keys to the game” segment. Do you know what the key to every football game ever played is? Turnovers. If you have the wide of a margin it’s hard not to win a lot of games.
    C) the def yards per game stat….is insane. Just simply dominate. But it is also significantly helped by the new clock rules this year and a Michigan’s offense. A lot of running a lot of motions tick tick tick. The opponents literally have less chances to get yards. That skews things significantly in the long run.

    As a Michigan fan, I find this video extremely disrespectful. If you know anything about CFB recruiting politics, you'll see a trend where a kid commits to Michigan and his rating drops, while that same kid will turn around and decommit months later, and then commit to like LSU or Bama, and then his rating jumps up. Michigan has always gotten elite talent, what was holding Michigan back was culture and Don Brown. Michigan was a force in 2016 but Don Brown's refusal to call anything but man press single high safety defenses were the Achilles heel of those teams.
    But go ahead and keep making content about how the blueblood program with the most wins in CFB history and a top 5 winning% all-time can go about winning a National Championship while it "should not have happened". It's just ignorant.

    • @noahCFB1
      @noahCFB1  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This whole video is showing how amazing it was that Michigan was able to win it all. Wasn’t disrespectful once. It’s awesome that Michigan was able to beat those teams filled with “5-stars”. It shows that they were much more than what people would think a national championship team would look like.

    • @CertifiedClapaholic
      @CertifiedClapaholic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @noahCFB1 multiple times you talk about how Michigan found success "despite" their lack of 5 star talent. Not once did you talk about the trends I laid out about Michigan's recruits almost invariably getting their ratings dropped after committing to Michigan unlike when they commit to schools like Ohio State, Bama, Georgia, etc... where they tend to get a boost in their ratings instead.
      You made it sound like this was some sort of anomaly that Michigan made and ignored the entire political elephant in the room about how some brands are just media darlings and others will have to face tue wrath of Disney if they have any success when they weren't supposed to. Look at how ESPN has dragged Michigan's name in the mud every single time they have success. They magnified every single controversy they could and tried to do everything they could to stop Michigan from being successful including pressuring the public into demanding that Michigan be punished before the NCAA even has a chance to formally present Michigan with its findings and for Michigan to defend itself. Why don't you talk about that being why "This never should have happened"? Why don't you talk about how the corrupt forces of CFB tried to come forward and derail Michigan's season week after week?
      Instead, we're all sitting here talking about how Michigan is some inferior program that didn't even have the horses to compete. Well, when you understand why that narrative exists, you'll understand why I find this video disrespectful.

    • @noahCFB1
      @noahCFB1  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you interpreted the video wrong. I appreciate your opinion, but the whole theme is how Michigan is an anomaly (yes) because past champions have had rosters filled with 5-stars, and Michigan was able to win it without that depth of elite recruiting in terms of stars. Michigan is a blue blood, they are forever going to be one of the top tier programs, but it’s been a trend for years that they won going against the grain. Nothing against Michigan at all, this video is basically praising them. What they did was great, and I hope more teams prove that you don’t need stars to win.

      @noahCFB1 my point is that it's a backhanded compliment. Michigan gets the talent but people act like Michigan is just some poverty program when it comes to recruiting because of a clear agenda by ESPN to start promoting their brand (SEC football) in the mid-2000s after the Big Ten snubbed them on a TV deal. ESPN has had it out for Michigan ever since because was one of the main programs against that TV deal due to stipulations it would place on their scheduling. ESPN's retaliation involved a mass disinformation campaign and now doing everything it can to drag Michigan's name through the mud at every opportunity. Make a video on that one instead of acting like this anomaly wasn't manufactured out of dirty politics.
