It's hard to even comprehend the amount of knowledge someone who has been racing rotaries for god knows how long has. He has MAZDASPEED parts that were bought NEW, under the table? Absolutely incredible, what an awesome shop. Rob Dahm would abosolutely lose his mind just walking around in there lmfao. Thanks for documenting this in some way.
I think Alexi didn't mention his name, but that man seems like such a cool person,,, not only his shop and dedication to the rotary platform is awesome but his history with racing is really cool too
I love shops and guys like this, just an insane amount of knowledge of one platform, could listen to him talk about rotaries for hours without getting bored. His shop just looks incredible too, endless amounts of historic and really interesting parts.
Best part about your channel unlike most automotive TH-camrs is you give us a look at small shops like this, spotlighting humble guys that we otherwise would have never known about instead of just being about yourself buying crazy cars and crazy parts. Best channel hands down.
You would never realised the owner of some workshop you drive past everyday in Japan would be a legendary racer in the 90s. So cool to see old cars are still cared for this much.
I love all the history, his pictures of him racing and still having the car. Gawd that's so cool. And the genuine cluttered shop. I love it. All the hidden Jem's. Also, it's so cool that the owner was more than happy to share it all with us around the world
We need a Netflix documentary where this guy just goes through his whole workshop and just talks about all his stuff. This was definitely super interesting to watch! Thanks for sharing Alexi
12:54 That gave me a good laugh. Allstate is a US insurance company. "Motor Club" isn't actually a club, but marketing slang for their roadside assistance program. Essentially, they can tow your car, inflate your tires, or jumpstart your battery. I got similar stickers for State Farm Insurance, but never put them on my cars. The previous owner most likely just had this as a daily beater, hence all the rust and bubbling all over it.
wow, what an awesome guy. i've been loosely following the 6 rotor cosmo since i saw it posted on twitter a while ago. old school shop owners like this always have the most amazing history and stories. would love to see more old shop content!
In a scene dominated by turbos these days this dude is casually running carb on engines only previously seen built by specialty factory teams. also happens to be a stock car champion. this dude is cracked
I genuinely loved this video. My first car was a 10th AE FC, my second car was a 1990 GXL FC and my third car was a 1989 GX with a turbo swap. Out of all of them the second car was by far the best. It was a full package GXL with electric adjustable dampers and every single piece of electronics on that car worked. It had Desmond Promoda ZR-1s in 17x8 +35 and an Abarth 3 spoke wheel from an 1965 Abarth 1600 OT. I miss that car every day. I've been searching for an FC similar to it for close to 10 years. I found a couple but they sold before I could go see them. Maybe one day I'll buy a new FC to make memories with. Thanks for the video Alexi, you gave me some pure, unrefined nostalgia tapped directly into my veins.
@@JB-sv5pr they're just so good. They really are drivers cars. Now I have a 2017 WRX and a 1994 Miata. The WRX is nice and modern but the NA is just totally different. You point it in a direction and it goes there.
this IS what real car culture is. Cramped over crowded work shop with rare gems all over the place and you could spend literally days in looking at everything. Real genuine people that love a chat. Man I love this stuff
Even though I'm just here to watch cars go vroom & literally don't get any of the jargon this is still highly entertaining and interesting. This dude literally won a bunch of races but keeps all his trophies in a dim corner of his workshop, he's got parts he bought brand new probably straight from some factory rep back in the day and he builds custom parts for a very specific type of engine. Dude has world class experience and knowhow and yet his place is just a small, cramped and dingy workshop that looks like nothing special when you drive by.
Something that made me love Japan car culture is how enthusiastic they are about their cars and how they are so open to their builds, they will show you every inch of their car and arent afraid of someone copying it most open to that and are open to new comers, just seeing how much he enjoyed showing his stuff off made me laugh(In a good way)
Alexi, I love when you do visits like this. It feels just like being there because of how casual it is. Also, that guy has a sick collection. I still cannot get over how LONG that 6 rotor is!
Ohhh yesss! This is gold! I love this kind of videos. Lots of history culture and crazy characters. Thanks Alexi to take the time and effort to capture all this!

I love the life long dedication to his favorite brand and and engine! You can feel the passion through the screen this guy has for these cars!!! Great video!!!

I can only imagine what those factory peripheral ported blocks are worth nowadays. Insane shop and such an amazing collection of cars. Keep bringing this stuff to us Alexi. 👌🏻
I used to live in FL and there were A LOT of Mazda RX cars rotting away in random yards or parking lots. They often get bought up by Puerto Ricans and shipped over there for drag racing. It's a super neat quirk of FL/Puerto Rican car cultyre.
Good god, I wished the guy pulled the trigger and mount the Webers. No extra benefit except the tuning ease and the infinitely better soundtrack! That being said, what a humble bloke! Very old school but knows the scene enough to consider adapting to modern parts. Can't wait for the startup video and cream my pants!

haha course you're here!
hes your japanese counterpart lol, has the same crazy look
Would you ever import a cosmo to the USA and do something radical like this?
Was waiting for you to arrive 😁
I knew I'd find you here
I doubt even Mazda themselves would've thought people would be this obsessively dedicated to the rotary platform. It's absolutely awesome
Thats why they re opened the rotary engine factory
Nah they knew, those mfs smart
Maybe in the 1970s they didn't. But by the 90s, they knew.
Facts, some countries have adapted the engine as a cultural staple. (NZ/PR/AUS)
There have been rumors that mazda is developing a hybrid rotary engine.
This man has such a rare and huge collection and is making unique stuff like its nothing. What a legend.
Gotta love how the show car gets squeezed into the lot outside just like everything else.
