    6:07 one of my favourite cars of all time, the HC hardtop. Though we never got the awesome Luce Royal Classic turbo rotary in Australia, just the 929 V6. There was one on my street a few years ago, in pretty average condition. I should have knocked on the door and offered them a grand for it or something because one day it disappeared, and I looked up the plate and it says it's not registered anymore, so something probably broke on it, cost too much to fix, scrapped it. Of course, now people want big money for them so I'll never have one.

    the rotary engine is essentially a pump, to the point if you take a stock block and put an electric motor on the crank (ie no battery or feul) it _will_ pump water no problem (the sump, crank bearing and seals might get a bit sticky after a bit :)

  • @El_Chompo
    @El_Chompo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you focus only on the combustion chamber and ignore everything else, the engine comparisons become much simpler. Rotaries fire every time the combustion area is swept by the rotor face. Piston engines fire every other time the combustion area is swept by the piston face. This is why rotaries sound like 2 strokes, mix oil like 2 strokes, make no torque like 2 strokes, etc. They are essentially a much more vibrationally balanced 2 stroke engine that doesn't self supercharge like the piston ones, and that's why they are so good with turbos. I tried to design a self supercharging version of a rotary but you would have to have a 1 way pipe connecting the intake to the exhaust and I'm not sure it's possible to pull off. What makes it work on a piston 2 stroke is that there is a continuous path from the intake to the exhaust through the combustion chamber when the piston is down, so the exahust resonant pressure can directly pressurize the combustion chamber above atmospheric pressure via the expansion pipe. Because of the extra edges of the rotor, this continuous connection is broken, and so I'm not sure if a self supercharging expansion pipe rotary would ever work but I would loooove to see one if somebody could make it work.

      Good analysis of the differences.
      The exhaust can be used to improve intake vacuum to ever so slightly"draw" the intake mixture into the expanded intake chamber on heavily ported (lots of overlap) engines. Myself and a few other improved production RX7 racers here in Australia managed to get small improvements over other rotary competitor's using this sort of exhaust design. Though it's far from the improvements a 2 stroke reciprocating piston engine gets from using expansion chambers.

    the renesis is actully the most powerfull 2 rotor. if you consider the fact that it's naturally aspirated. it has more intake ports. and side exit exhaust ports, aswell has the highest compression ratio of all the 13b. which is one of the reasons it doesnt like boost
