I've collected, DJ'd and danced to Northern Soul since going to Wigan Casino in the late 1970's. These recordings are made so that long into the future, anyone can visit TH-cam and continue to learn about and listen to this fantastic music, after I'm gone. They were recorded in the USA at a period in time when sadly overlooked. Only to be discovered and played in the 1970's soul clubs of the UK, and now played in many venues in countries all over the world. Many are recorded on obscure record labels, that simply never got airplay and the small number of records that were pressed, just disappeared. Hence their rarity.

I have no affiliation to the site, but there you will find a wealth of knowledge from dedicated lovers of the music. Together they know every artist, band member, pressing plant, label, label owner and origin of every track. Some so knowledgable that they can even tell you who the third saxophonist on the left was on some of the recordings. Others on the rare soul scene though may argue that it was his brother! Whoever is right, Northern Soul fascinates and satisfies many over 50years on.

Cheers Debbie, The labels are memorable, for me blowing the dust off, putting a vinyl record on the decks and looking at the label is like a Japanese tea ceremony. They are special. You can’t get that feeling from Spotify!

Thanks for the one hour of pure joy. Just one observation though - the video doesn't seem to be synced with the music. You show the next record close up to the camera and then something else is played in its place. The first example of this is at 4:45 when, with the left deck playing, you show the label of Billy Butler's "Right Track". You put the record on the right deck but it never gets played! Instead, at 6:35 you play another record, Leon Haywood "Baby Reconsider" on the same left deck. There are probably about 6-8 other instances of this in the video.

Thanks for the feedback Paul, I know what you mean about a list. It just takes so long to list all the details. I have them listed on some of my sets, it’s all about the time I have the day of listing. I always hold the records up to the camera before playing so that you can get all the label and recording details as well as artist and song. Another fantastic set ! But who's singing what ? Please look at the Video yourself and see if you can make them out ? You've got ABSOLUTELY no chance. Some are out of focus ! A great set but ? It's not hard ! You could do it in ten minutes and leave it in the comments section and Pin it to the Top . It's a fantastic set .

Thank you Paul, it may be your phone or device that you are viewing on. I've had a look and can see clearly on apple devices. Unfortunately I'm struggling for time to put anything new up and if it only took ten mins each set to make and post lists, I've got over 20 sets on the channel, so it'd take me hours. If you've never posted anything on a TH-cam channel, I can assure you that it would take much longer though. Every other follower wants me to list more tunes. Which I hope to do...given time! KTF B

There’s so much Steve thats referred to as NS but isn’t ‘on the four beats’ that Dave Godin listened to in the Wheel when he coined the phrase Northern Soul. The track is great though once it kicks in and fills the dance floor, but you are right, Modern Soul it is, not a classic oldie. Cheers B

@@gotelemwillyboyshere I know what you mean. Lot’s of modern gets played at Northern doo’s just to vary the appeal. You could always find me in Mr M’s dancing to oldies (and they were only 10yrs old back then!), whilst Richard was playing a mixed bag in Wigans main room. We’ve all got our favourites and can’t like everyone else’s taste. Cheers Baz
@@BazFromThePast M's was home to me from the week they opened it . Did more than a year and never missed one , 77 started to go every other and when the Oldies on Fridays , i think , did both . It wasn't the same after the cameras came . And i think i went to" The Last One "about 5 times !
