Victrix is indeed very good. However, with some caveats, I do like the Wargames Atlantic sets as well. They are a newer company and are learning the process as they go along and I believe that the Persian set was one of their first. Consider them more a "builder" than a core for your army (like they state on their Prussian Napoleonic set). Victrix is good for detail and variety, Wargames Atlantic for their value. Since they're comparable in size (which is isn't always the case), you could use these as filler for second, third and fourth ranks (if necessary) and putting your Victrix in the front rank. Great review overall. Looking forward to more.

Thanks for doing this - it's a really good comparison. I actually have both sets and I totally agree with your points of view.
In addition to your Victrix requests, I'm also hoping for some Bactrian cavalry, with semi-armoured horses.
    Happy painting!
    Regards, Steve

Thanks for this really well done and useful comparison. While Victrix are clearly better (Victrix minis are amazing anyway) I might buy a pack of the WA Persians just to add a little variation to my predominantly Victrix stands. Steve 🙂

The two do mix well together as well, on of my sparabara units has war games Atlantic spearmen and victrix bowmen.

one of the last point not to do the Persians is that you need a ton of them!

Love Victrix minis. Hate assembling them and trying to get them to rank up well on bases. You have to put a lot of thought into where they go on the bases and within the unit. Still want to get my hands on some Wargames Atlantic, but doubt it will be any time soon as overseas orders are in major limbo now.

Very nice review.Actually everything is a pain in the butt to paint. You hit the nail on the head it's all about no thought and ease of manufacturing.Easy to mass produce one sprue and put eight in a box.No command is a drag Warlords do similar things and it's frustrating to say the least.Victrix are top notch probably the best plastic 28mm.I have upteen bags here all superb looking figures. It has crossed my mind about Persians and you have added fuel to the flame.Dont be surprised if i say before long i have ordered a load of Persians.Yes nice vid the Wargames Atlantic look ok painted just no thought put into the box.Thinking about themselves as much as the customer.A little thought goes a long way.

Yeah I did buy the Wargames Atlantic before victrix had released their Persian line, if it had not been for that I would have been all in on the victrix sets.

Warlord do many of their plastics without command sprue and expect you to convert your own, or preferably buy their metal command sets.
The issue with this is that although you can easily build and arrange the plastic with considerable variation you need to be a modeller rather than a wargamer if you want to create variation in command by cutting arms and heads off, pinning plastic sprue stuff & green-stuffing the joins; that said this is perhaps the thing I enjoy most about the hobby. The most important thing is the kits are 28mm not 'heroic scale' - ooh don't get me started. I think I'd buy both on seeing the vid, his sticking points on Wargames Atlantic are actually selling points from my perspective.
