I met and interviewed Andy Narell in 1984 while producing shows for Radio Bilingue, he had come into Fresno to perform and we gave him airtime. I think I still have the interview on cassette tapes. Amazed that he has been doing his creative genius on the steel drums🎉 Wow just great to hear this. I now help run that Latino owned radio Network. 😊
Simply the Best of the Best.Real latin tropical fusion.Andy on The Steel Drum leading the Band is really good.Melodies and variations are very complex and he is very talentous. All the.musicians also are exceptional.Congartulaions .
Andy Narell is in a whole category of his own along with his band mates. The music of Trinidad and Tobago fused with the sweet notes of cool jazz and delivered with unequaled steel drum dexterity.. This makes any level of stress vanish at quantum velocity!!
David . . . I could not agree with you more. I discovered Narrell many, many years ago with his Album HIDDEN TREASURES and have attempting to alert everybody i come across with his genius. He's ALWAYS BEEN a category unto himself . . . and it takes for one to completely open themselves to appreciate him . . . Listen every morning to COFFEE STREET with the UNT musicians . . . Cannot start my day without them . . . lol
Ive been obsessed with his material for years. This video is amazing. He’s on a different level. Most pan players play the usual boring tunes but Andy’s tunes and approach is very sophisticated and classy and fun. I wish I could play like him.
What a great show! Hope I got this right, here's the setlist: 0:00:00 Sugar for Pan [F. Henry] 0:09:04 Intro (?) 0:10:26 Kalinda 0:22:26 The Long Way Back 0:34:28 Coffee Street 0:49:49 Baby Steps 1:02:34 The Last Word (Oui Ma Chérie) 1:14:19 Blue Mazooka 1:27:45 Kon Djab Djigidji [Mario Canonge] 1:43:16 Abacoco Composed by Andy Narell except when noted
What a great show! Andy is a legend and played with just about everyone. Love the split screen footage so I can see what the drummer is doing. Solid player.
LOVE HIS ATTITUDE TO THIS GREAT INSTRUMENT, AND HIS BAND , ESPECIALLY HIS KEYBOARD PLAYER, HER SKATTING IS TOP CLASS THEN THE BASS, AND DRUMS, ALL CLASS PLAYERS. So many musicians these days ( showing my age) just do not know about light and shade. I hope I get to meet you one day and hear you play, and maybe talk to you about your craft. Thanks . My sister introduced me to you, but until I heard relator University of Calypso, I started digging . nice find.
Originated in Trinidad, clearly one of the world's greatest musical innovative development, "De steelpan", and Andy does wonders with his extraordinary talent. And of course without saying, the accompaniment, fantastic job guys.
I got this Tonight Thursday, December 9th.,2021♫♪♫♫ in It's entirety . Man, It's Pure Sweetness ,from beginning to end. ♥ I Love It. Excellent Musicians.♫ ♪♫♫ Professionals All. (Yeah.!!!, for Brooklyn). I am in Brooklyn ,New York./// Thanks Gracias. ♥ A Bassist ♪♫.♫♫ and Double Bassist.
Yeah Andy is Phenomenal..... but all his accompaniment are absolutely off the Chart. Seriously, first the Beautiful Pianist started her “Solo”.... you my Lady are brilliant. Then along came the Drummer “Percussionist”... absolutely on time every time... awesome my friend. Then the replica of “Stanley Clarke”❤️
Yeah so... pretty sure the pianist quoted mini snippets of "For Once In My Life" and "Rhapsody In Blue" over Coffee Street. I stumbled onto this video from a Heptones recording, and I haven't been able to break away!
You need to be sat there with a loooong Pina Colada!! I would like to hear Andy work with a drummer using brushes instead of sticks a la Modern Jazz Quartet to soften the attack during the low tempo tracks. I think it would work. By the way, I AM NOT criticising the drumming. As for Janysett I think she will soon rank alongside Ruben Gonzales, Chucho Valdes, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Roberto Fonseca in the pantheon of Cuban pianissimo greats. By the way, whoever filmed this did it in the most appropriate and sympathetic manner possible. Kudos!!
Called Sugar for pan by Fitzroy Henry known by stage name in Trinidad and Tobago "The Mighty Terror" ... he is also called the golden voice of calypso music.
Saw him perform for the first time live today (a few hours back). Been a fan for years.
😂😂😂😁😁

Dr JIT SAMAROO May be no longer with us, but he’s still the MASTER, he’s the MOZART of Pan no one can TEST
Jit was great, but there is only one Mozart of pan,and that is Boogsie Sharp.
Kenrick Singh boogsie was good but no comparison to Dr JIT
You need to be sat there with a loooong Pina Colada!!

In addition to a drummer with brushes, a conguero and even a bata drummer was necessary on the montuno breaks
Amazing blend latin músic. A bit Brazilian too.
Afrique 😋
Andy tu est le maître du bidon
Set list?
Who is the pianist???
Steel 'Pan' - NOT 'Drum'
What's the name of the first song? please
Sugar for pan
Called Sugar for pan by Fitzroy Henry known by stage name in Trinidad and Tobago "The Mighty Terror" ... he is also called the golden voice of calypso music.
I find steel drums incredibly obnoxious. But I LOVE Andy Narell
désolé de m'OQP de ce qi ne me regarde pas
Great sounds, thanks Andy...
