I absolutely love Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. They’re both such underrated games and not many people know the either game. I grew up with both of them and I absolutely love these Xbox 360 games
This is my, hands down, favorite theme in the entire game, and one of my favorite boss tracks of ALL TIME. Hand-in-hand with the standard boss theme "Eternity," I fully endorse the opinion a critic once said that this game's music is a "religious experience." This sits in Uematsu's highest tier of product, in my mind, and that will never change!
"standard boss theme "Eternity,"" also known as "jesus christ the guy from deep purple sang this" for the ost of indie parody game barkley shut up and jam gaiden
That's why it is awesome that we can still play these games on current xbox consoles via back compat (I own both digitally but have never actually played them xd)
@@nicolas_delriorau Seriously the only reason I have an Xbone is to play Lost Odyssey lmao. Also with backwards compatibility, you only need the first disc of the game. The rest will download digitally.
I'd love a Switch port of these games. I bought both those games dirt cheap from Gamestop and ended up loving the charm of Blue Dragon and the emotionally driven story of Lost Odyssey (though I never beat LO).
Yeah, this game is definitely an underrated gem, though there are valid, if not necessarily good, reasons for its rep. One, it was released for a console that the native audience didn't care for, plus an 8-month staggered release date did no favors (for context, December '06 vs August '07). Two, it's a game that is difficult to experience, as it's one of only a few games from that era that required multiple discs, 3 total, though if you have a XBOne or a Series X you only need the first disc.
It was released on the Xbox360, which was not very big in Japan, so in spite of being made by a bunch of RPG industry veterans, including Nobou and a bunch of characters on his level who made their own studio, it didn't do to well sadly. In the west Xbox wasn't hugely known for rpg's, and it wasn't marketed very well. A perfect storm that kinda made a fun little game underperform. And yeah, final boss, prob my fave song of Nobou's outside Dancing Mad.
Blue Dragon is definitely an anomaly. Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, is the director, Uemtasu is the composer, Akira Toriyama is the artist, a JRPG that was exclusive to the Xbox, has sequels on the Nintendo DS, and has a musical cameo by Deep Purple for the boss theme
I remember first hearing about this game in a Game Informer magazine, where a big deal was made about its development by industry veterans, with art by Akira Toriyama. Alas, it didn't too well, due to being an Xbox exclusive at the time. Still had a jamming final boss theme. Fun fact: the lyrics occasionally saying "Destroy" repeatedly? That's the name of the final boss in question.
This track just screams Uematsu But if you're after more recommendations from this OST, check out "Cave", it has a vibe that you'll find in a lot of Lost Odyssey more orchestral tracks as well.
This game is by Mistwalker, american-japanese game corporation founded in 2004, Uematsu were there after Square (now Square Enix) and "Lost Odyssey" is also from Mistwalker, both games are only on Xbox 360.
Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey aren't made by Square, but they might as well have been. Mistwalker are the studio, founded by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. Nobuo being a frequent collaborator with them, he worked on Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, The Last Story (A Wii game) and most recently the Apple Arcade game Fantasian. (and maybe others, but this is all I have played of theirs).
About the game itself, it's... 'almost' great. The soundtrack is superb, dungeons are pretty good, story is okay but fitting, gameplay depth is very deep for combat, but... the normal difficulty is pathetically easy. Most bosses die in just 2-3 rounds on the normal mode. There were also free higher difficulty DLC's and I do think the regular hard mode you get from it is amazingly balanced and does show off the potential and depth of the combat system. But sadly on the normal mode which most people played... there's pretty much no challenge.
I just finished the anime and it truly is a hidden gem. I played the game first and started it when I was a kid watching my older brother. After defeating Nene in the anime the show went a far different path than the game, absolutely amazing.
Xbox just wasn't a good place for JRPGs back then. Even today they sell way less on Xbox compared to PS and Nintendo. They do have cult followings though. And personally I bought a 360 purely because of these games and it was worth it. BD is really fun and it holds up well today, but LO is lowkey a masterpiece.

@@trewerd Honestly, if you got the first memory story in LO, you understand the emotional stuff. It sets the stage so well.
Magna Carta 2 Too for me,Fav game of all time, Blue Dragon Is 2nd

Been waiting for this to pop up, one of my top Nobuo tracks I think. More people probably know the game from the OST than the actual game itself lol.

Destroy, all of life
Destroy, all of dead
Destroy, all of time
Destroy, all of YOU.
Kefka: waves hands like Mozart
This has always been one of my favorite tracks by Uematsu. It's like the perfect mix of Deep Purple and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Plus the beat used in classic Final Fantasy battle themes, a strong Lost Odyssey feel, and a quote from the Top Gun Anthem (see: 4:21) for... reasons?

you can really tell he was working on this and Lost Odyssey around the same time
might be the most power metal inspired song ive heard form Nobuo
I highly recommend this game if you like RPGs, it's by far my favorite.
Lost odyssée and blues dragon. Two great jrpgs sealed into the depth of the 360....

Tangentially related, but I love Bloody Roar. Bakuryu the Mole is my favorite.

I know of blue dragon through the anime. Never played it and never finished the anime
