So nice to hear the cabin's history and know you have preserved it for those that will enjoy it in the future- don't forget to carve YOUR initials in the beam too :)
it is a wonderful place you have there. I have spent 35 years in the Jemez mountains here in NM. Now I can barely hobble around. So it is time for new generation to explore and hunt this beautiful area. Being grateful that I was able to experience the outdoors in a way similar to you. Love your videos Martin. thanks
You are a great story teller. You turned a $1,200 pile of rotting rubbish into a priceless retreat. Well done. Thank you for the video and for the background story too.
very heart warming to all outdoors lovers ...glad you saved that old place..i used to build shacks as a kid and still love things of that nature .....great story on how your cabin had different owners and its uses and such
Thank you for relating this story, it adds much to the other videos to know this. You found a gem in the rough and turned it into a wonderland. And for $1200, you added more happiness to your life than money can by.
Martin, I stumbled onto your channel some time ago and have enjoyed everyone of your videos. This one is one of the best ive seen thanks for sharing the history and your time there. I'm restoring a old "Maine" cabin myself along with my family, we are the fourth owners and hope to pass it on to the next generation who would enjoy for years to come. Thanks again for the Vid's
That is a nice story about when you found the cabin. We're in PA, and we sleep in a tent on our property in the summer. We enjoy your wisdom and insight. Peace and grace
Sleeping out is nice and it has been done a lot at the cabin. If someone is keeping the stove stocked I like to sleep on on some clear winter nights. Trees exploding in the cold and the Milky Way in an ink black sky.
Great story that was well told. Your love of the outdoors, people & their history shows and there couldn't have been anyone better to end up buying it. Atb.
What a fun story , Martin. I love the fact that you saw potential in what most would have given up on. Beautiful place, I love what you've done. Thanks once again.
Stories like this I could set & listen to for hours on end. Loved how you shared the story & Pictures to go along with it, Many Thanks Martin This 1's goin in my favorites ! 'till we see one another in your next video, Be Well, Friend ATB Ter God Bless
Hi Martin! Thanks much for the 'visit' and the story of the Cabin and how you came to be it's owner and steward. So kind of you to share it all with us as you do. There's something very deep, positive and good about you and your story, kind of inscrutable and mysterious (in a good way), but plain to recognize for those with a heart and spirit that are spoken to by such things. Most peaceable and agreeable place to visit in all of "window-world" as far as I can tell. Bless you, and your wonderful place.
Need to make a journal to go with the cabin and note all the history you have. Please be very careful to whom you pass it on too. So that they keep the history line intact, and keep the cabin going for it's intended purpose.. it's nice to know that places like that still exist.. I've had a great time cruising through your videos, and dreaming what a life like that would be like. Thank you so much for taking the time to share the cabin with us, and continue the cabin's history. You're a remarkable man..
One last "new" window to install. I want to get some sort of preservative on the logs. I would like a gazebo in the yard with roof panels that could be cranked open to enjoy the northern lights at night.
Winters a comin “ great story sir ... when it’s your time to pass the torch they will have years of your story and legacy at their fingertips to watch forever ... pretty damn cool if you ask me ! Stay warm sir .
Your best story yet. I love the History. Someday I will make a video on the history of our homestead that stated back In the 1850s when gold was the only reason folks settled here in this wild part of Oregon.
Great story my friend..if I could ever purchase all the old deer camps or any one for that matter, the walls would speak to me....great times as a youth with my dad and his buddies, never will forget those times....I want to get back some day to reconnect.
That was a great story, you've certainly added a few more years of life to the cabin. It's a very special place. Thank you so much for sharing. Look forward to your next video. 👍🏼
Everett sold the cabin to the right person. It is obvious to me from watching your videos that you appreciate the cabin and the land. You knew and appreciated what it had to offer. The property offers a great deal of entertainment and enjoyment for those of us who appreciate the woods and all it has to offer. Knowing the history of the property, who occupied it and why adds to the experience of being there. You've done a really good job of fixing it up and making good use of it.
Thanks, besides myself there are many others that enjoy that cabin being saved from the ravages of time and no care. It makes a nice destination for some of the people in that part of Minnesota.
if there was the youtube during those years it will be a great story about the cabin and the life in this corner of paradise than that it is,thanks Martin
Great story Martin! Thank you for sharing, as a farmer, I remember going to the farmer's hunting cabin that my family owned, great memories. Too bad its only memories now, I am hoping to build a cabin here on my farm for my family in the near future so my kids can also experience what I did growing up!
I can still do 'Most" things I used to could do! But they come much slower now!!!! I HATE THAT!!!!Larsonvalleyfarm, sounds like some food I could feed people with! lol. Don't waste time if you are a younger man with kids, make time! You have memories of the hunting camp, build your kids some memories!
Awesome story with the Cabin, the simple times of pass generations, it's not all about the money and returns, just memories that continue to humble us that listen and enjoy you've done such a wonderful job keeping the Cabin alive, keep on keeping on, Best of luck always and thanks for sharing your videos.
Great story Martin. I live on a small remote ranch I own in the mountains with my wife. The peace and solitude are important to me. City folks don't know what their missing.
I am glad I stumbled across your videos, you tell the story of the camps history very well and it kept me interested. We my brother and I and nephew are starting a camp in Nothern Ont Canada as we speak. we will be posting a channel soon on our progress and great times ahead. Most of my hunting and fishing memories are from a camp we went to in Nova Scotia with my now deceased father...... time to build our own camp and get the younger nephews to enjoy the wilderness and the great times I remember.....thank you Martin....Take care Chuck
So interesting, thank you for sharing the history of a place that so many people would love to visit and see the birds and those little critters. thanks again, when I am exhausted and woozy from life,I find these refreshing vlog of slower days. Take care.
Thanks for the story! Along the way, you have mentioned 'partners' who came up with you. Were you a group of hunting buddies? How did you re-develop the interior to where it is today?
After I found the cabin there were four of us that wanted to purchase it. Two have passed away and another has joined in. After I retired I had time to rework the place a little at a time. I used a hammer and strong knife to clean off the bark. I had a gas powered drill with a big wire brush attached which helped clean up the rough sawn ceiling boards. The reddish walls are oil based varathane but I then went with waterbased because the wood stayed lighter and helped brighten the cabin. We were cross-country skiers but I did deer hunt the area for a number of years. I finally decided the hunting was getting in the way of other things I enjoyed more.
I sure do enjoy your videos. I love you work hard, play hard, make time for rest and praise. I want to be like you. When I was in college I found a cabin not far from home in the woods in sad shape. I wrote the owners to ask if I could lease it from them and fix it up. I never heard back. I've dreamed about having a spot in the woods ever since. Some day... Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Awesome story Martin!! My dad worked for a farmer... the farmer gave him 40 acres of woods and swamp that the cattle didn’t use anymore.... that was 1977... we have a cabin/fixed up chicken coop on it.... and we enjoy hunting and family get togethers there still

Very unusual location and very unusual purchase. A real god-send
You are a great story teller. You turned a $1,200 pile of rotting rubbish into a priceless retreat. Well done. Thank you for the video and for the background story too.

I live in the bush myself and I find your videos make me appreciate even more that I made the jump out of the rat race so many years ago years ago.
That's a great story! And what a deal! You sure spruced the place up, yet kept the atmosphere.
I will never forget that first night out there. After that every visit was really looked forward to.

What an amazing history. It's great to see that the cabin has been resurrected by a new enthusiast and that you are the caretaker for the time being.
I will be very happy to pass it on the the next generation. I keep waiting for another 30 year old "Martin" to enter the picture to make it obvious.
Thank you for sharing, I always wondered what the back story on the cabin was. keep up the good work we love your videos
Glad you enjoyed the tale.
Yes, thank a trespasser and someone who entered a dwelling not his own.
Great story Martin. I live on a small remote ranch I own in the mountains with my wife. The peace and solitude are important to me. City folks don't know what their missing.
Then you understand what it like out there with all that peace and solitude.

What a wonderful story and a wonderful place.
And as it ages it gets better.
Good old story. Always nice hearing about the history of different things.👍👍👍
Thanks, so much more history around that area and the other rotted cabins has been lost.

Thanks for writing Chuck, sounds like good times ahead for your campmates.
Your TH-cam channel is a great way to document your cabin in the woods. I love what you have done to the place.
I sure like others to experience the life there through these videos.
Our time here is just so short, as life continues on and on.........Great Story Martin, thanks.
That is so true, the cabin is in my hands for just a little while and I want to be a good steward with it.

Wow....back in 84....that was cheap for 40 acres ...even if the cabin was in need of repair.....Cool story Martin
The man had listed it for $4000 and never even got a call on it.

My dad worked for a farmer... the farmer gave him 40 acres of woods and swamp that the cattle didn’t use anymore.... that was 1977... we have a cabin/fixed up chicken coop on it.... and we enjoy hunting and family get togethers there still
And that is all we need for contentment.
What a great story and history lesson!
Thanks, I am happy to have finally found a way to get it out there.
What a blessing...price and all. Sure enjoyed hearing the story. It makes the whole picture of your little niche in the woods even more interesting.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful history of the cabin. Your are a great storyteller.
Thanks, I am getting braver about the story telling.
Wonder what year it was built? What a great story!!Took me a while to find the info on it
I estimate the late 1930's.
Awesome story Martin! I have great childhood memories of a cabin my grandparents owned on 3rd crow wing lake. Unfortunately, they were forced to sell it in the early 90s. I miss the place to this day. It's too bad my kids didn't get to experience 'cabin life' like I did.
Thanks,it is sure a shame they are getting so scarce.
