Throughout the southeastern US, timber is commonly bought and sold based on weight - tons. Thus, in order to determine the payload, trucks are weighed at a scale house when loaded with logs and then reweighed when empty.
In Mississippi log trucks can have a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 88,000 pounds with a harvest permit- the use of a day cab truck rather than a sleeper cab can help to maximize the log payload. Legally a log load must have at least two straps - one in front of the back bolster and one in back of the front bolster. I think these simulators are good tools to help educate our youth about forestry and logging, and get them interested in these professions - particularly log truck driving. Log truck drivers are essential to conducting forest management - no log truck drivers means no logs getting to the mill during a forest harvest operation.
