These two towns were along the old Lonesome Pine Trail that headed to the Cumberland Gap and into Kentucky. This old Indian trail was followed by the Eastern Woodland Buffalo, Dr. Thomas Walker and his exploration party in the 1750's and later by Daniel Boone.
Jar with spout was for oil for cars and trucks. It came in barrels and they pumped it out into those jars to put in your vehicle. The lever on the side of the pump turns it on and off.
Born and raised in Ewing and Rose Hill. Actually born in the nearest hospital in Middlesboro, KY, but lived most of my life in Ewing and Rose Hill. Living in Indiana now, but my dream is to go back home to VA. So many memories there.
I used to pass through Rose Hill and Ewing Virginia all the time many years ago. They were always small farm and coal commodities. My Daddy as a boy would take the train ( steam 🚂 locomotive) from St Charles, VA, where he was raised to Harrogate, Tennessee where is Grandparents lived . The locomotive would pass through Ewing, Rose 🌹 Hill along the way . Thanks for keeping a bit of my past in southwest VA, alive in my memory. Love ❤️ the channel!
I would say the Gulf gas pump was still in use during the 70’s because it says No Nox on it. In the early 70s when they started putting anti-pollution things on the engines, the engines would knock and they put more lead in the gas to keep it from knocking. The pump is older than the 70s probably late 50s early 60s.
my grandpas buried at rose hill cemetary clarence johnson his name. i was young at the time, last memory of him was waving bye with his bibs on and a rolled prince albert cigarett, miss him.
Awesome trip through those beautiful little towns Coyote's! Love the old gas station! The knob resets the numbers back to zero, you are correct Coyote! I have 2 old pumps, one out in front of my garages and one in the house as a showpiece! My wife loves old automobilia as much as me! Shoot I've even got a 69 Corvette too! The corvette appears to be a 76 which was the last year of the C3 Stingray, but its definitely a 75 or 76 if it has Stingray on the front fender, 75 had astro ventilation vents behind the back glass, 77 didn't have the Stingray badge anymore, just had crossfags on the front fenders and 74 didn't have black bumper guards like that one, 78 was the first year with the big fastback back glass. If I could see it closer I could tell exactly! I've had several Corvette's through the years as well as mopars, fords and others.Yall made a great video there! Love it!👍
My mom grew up what you called poor valley. By rose hill. She had a sister in Ewing I reamaber going to the theater with my dad when I was young I don't remember the movie I saw but knowing my dad it was a western
@@IgnitedCoyote that would be great! I live in Jacksboro TN now so I’m about an hour away but I’m usually in the area every other weekend to visit my family
My Grandfather and Uncle are Buried in the Morgan Cemetery in Rosehill, Va. Also a few of our kinfolk still live in the area. I stumbled onto your video and it's really brought back good memories.
Henry Manning had the little gas station in Ewing the Theater was beside the post office and where the corvette is Jr and Virginia Brooks ran it the bank was called Peoples Bank
I'm the Great Grandson of HT and Virginia Brooks would love to hear something from you two I got all kinds of history and old photos I could show you of the Texaco and my family's ancestry.
Movie Theater was beside Post office in Ewing. Also those were not red lights. The flashing lights were put over the four lane because so many people ran the stop signs & caused fatal car wrecks. If you went across from the on sand cave road you would see 2 giant stop signs stacked on one another warning people to stop for traffic. Super Dollar is owned by Food City it’s only one of six stores that aren’t called Food City. It was previously Piggly Wiggly.
I live in a little town. East of Houston Texas and we have a population of about 3000 people and we have 6 different dollar stores with 5 miles of each other
I miss those video rental stores, a big one was here since 1984, it was a great place, all things of the past, soon we will have our food, diners streaming too 👎🤖
Also the theatre ran till about 1982 and then Lee county shut the theatre down for running XXX movies. They played other movies but XXX was what got them shut down. The drive in ran till early 80s and closed after new owners bought it to keep it closed down.
We use a DJI pocket 3 and occasionally a DJI action 4 we usually video in 1080 60 sometimes we video in 4K but 4K is problematic when editing especially a long video and it also takes quite a long time to upload so sometimes we end up videoing in 4k 30 and uploading and 1080 60
I have already watched this video 2 times and fixing to watch it for the 3 time please let me know how papa coyote is doing please tell him I said hello and you two have a wonderful blessed Sunday God bless y'all my dear Kentucky friends
The dollar stores aka Dollar General have become the death of rural America. When people learned how to defeat Walmart, DG swooped in with an entirely different business model, literally building right beside of the mom and pops they intend to drive out of business. Couple location with extended hours for DG and people know the can rely on DG being opened while mom and pop are closed by 5pm. The life we knew 20-30-40 years ago, is gone forever sorry to say.
@@HiriamAbiff32 sadly, the Jonesville area couldn’t Walmart. Walmart brought jobs and new life to the community. They were like moths to a flame, embracing what would be the demise of nearly all small business in the area. I remember visiting there and never understanding how there were no 24 hour gas stations or stores open, no internet, no cell service unless you drove to a nearby mountain, but knew it would hit one day just as it has everywhere. Technology has been such a double edged sword to us as a society.
@@TheRealBuckFiden we had Fiber Internet high speed, not long after the prison was built (2003ish), infact that’s why we have an airport is because of the Prison. Best i remember you turned the handle one way to reset the numbers, then turned it back to start the pump.
These little towns are so neat! Thanks Coyotes for keeping their memories alive ❤
Thanks CL
The crank handle on the gas pumps were to reset all the numbers to 0 before starting to pump your gas...
The glass jar with the spout was used to put oil and fluids in engines
My dad was from Rose Hill, I remember it so well❤
When tobacco farms were still a thing, a lot of these little towns were really alive... nothing has come along to replace tobacco, financially.
True, thanks for watching Scott!
Thank you for this tour!!! My dads family was from Lee County & Rose Hill but they all moved on. So nice to see these forgotten places

Dying little town

That has been unopened since the 80's or 90's. The pawn shop was right beside it and there were apartments upstairs.
Right beside there is the fields were the sand caves are. My aunt Betty lived in the brick house. That was Betty's beauty shop. My mamal went to Betty Dean's to get her hair rolled for the church week.
It used to be a gas station then they turned it in to a lawn mower shop or a garage.
It's up by the other gas station. They have redone it now and is open.
