- In this video, we load the CP/M operating system into the Altair via the serial board and also the FDC+ board.
Find out more information about the FDC+ board at deramp.com/fdc...
The bootloader, CP/M and other disk images can be found at deramp.com/dow...

Always been fascinated by these old computers. I remember learning that no, you wouldn't necessarily just use the switches on the front, and that people did eventually get terminals and disks on there, but it still is pretty fascinating.
For sure! In future videos, my goal is to make it do more than it was able to do in the 1970s. Stay tuned!

Really Sweet Sir, Never had the opportunity to play with an Altair before.
This is a cool series. Thanks for making these Altair videos!
I built an 8800c last year, also using the 2SIO-JP and FDC+. I found that Teac FD-235HG 3.5" drives work well and can be configured to run at 360 RPM. They were commonly used on Dell systems and are still readily available and cheap on eBay. I put 4 of them and a power supply in a custom wooden enclosure. It's a great way to run these systems if you don't have a stash of 8" or 5.25" drives sitting around.
That's insightful information. Thank you!
Excellent video, very clear & easy to understand. Thank you!
dream computer, very nice. thanks for sharing
imagine if you could go back in time and buy yourself a brand new altair 8800 for your own bragging right of having one
whats the name or type of the inner sockets inside these 70s and 80s computers?
Great video
where did you get the parts to build the Altair. I always wanted to build one of these.
any help would be greatly appreciated
The boards you can find online. I think s100computers.com. Parts are available all over the place. I usually use jameco or digikey. The case I got from deramp.com
@@artemkalinchuk Thanks, another place where I can deposit my extra money instead of the bank. lol
Is it possible to run a harddisk on a altair ?
Good question. It is possible and I'll make a video about it soon.
@@artemkalinchuk Great looking forward to, this makes this system a fun/education system kind of useful @deramp5113
Is that a recreation Altair? Where to buy one?
It’s an Altair clone. You can get the case from deramp.com and other boards from a variety of hobbyists. There is a board inventory for the s100 bus if you search Google.
good video, crap music.
you need to be plugged into a mini gender changer just like that on that altair for fun🤣🤣🤣
I’m disappointed you didn’t like the music 😂
@@artemkalinchuk next time use some Ramstein see how he likes that🤣🤣🤣
Finding appropriate music is the hardest part of making these videos.
Hiya, thanks for responding. I love music, but not when I'm listening to what you have to say, which is more impotant. There seems to have been a trend in the last 20-30 years of adding music, for no apparent reason. If you made a video of just the music, i'd enjoy it, but I want to learn about the 8800, not the music. Also am a Rammstien fan, saw them in cardiff, was brilliant :)
