Gosh, Colin - that's a very kind endorsement, thank you so much for your support and encouragement! I'll certainly carry on doing my best to keep you entertained 😀👍
Praise well earned David, also have you tried the new 12-200 lens, are you going to test or buy this lens, your advice would be appreciated please. regards. @@DGriffGallery
Hi Colin - no I haven't tried it and I'm not sure I would. As you know, for me, one of the main considerations in switching to M4/3 from Nikon was the portability to get equipment easily out into the wilds. The 100mm has proved plenty for the my long range requirements. especially when you consider this equates to a 200mm full frame length, which is the standard long range telephoto lens for landscapes - most FF shooters using a 70-200mm. Also the additional weight and size would deter me. Finally, the tests and reviews I've seen indicate it's maybe not quite as sharp as the 12-100. So, with all that in mind, and the fact that I'm totally in love with my 12-100 and it's the only M.Zuiko zoom with built-in stabilisation to complement the in-body stabilisation of my E-M1 mk2, I doubt I consider the cost to be worth it. Overall I've given zero consideration to any additional lenses for this body - which means I won't need to worry about getting dust on the sensor!! :)
A pleasure to see you both out together. It’s taken a long time. And a nice little place I may try and find. I think both you and Mr Big JJ took some really cool shots in them conditions
Hi Tony - yes it's happening more and more often - this week I was out with Darren Knight and I have plenty more potential joint-ventures in the pipeline for this year! 👍 😀
Thank you so much for sharing your adventure. Your approach is so refreshing. You are a photographic problem solver who is not afraid to actually share your process with us. As a new enthusiast and a new member of the Olympus family these are invaluable to me and I learn so much from these ... more than from the endless camera critiques and comparisons that one sees so frequently. Thank you! Kudos...and keep it up!
Thank you so much John, that means a lot - I really do try to be as entertaining and informative as I can, and I love to share the great locations I have near me. 👍 😀
Another windy day for you I see! Love the images you got from this trip, especially the two of the rocks and the lighthouse in the distance. The image of the rock archway with the sea in the background was very well done too - for an HDR shot, I thought it looked quite natural. I'm off to watch Jason Jones video now - see you next time, David!
It's a place I've never been, but I do admire your determination on getting the shot in the vlog. When I saw Jason, I suddenly remembered his vlog from this location. It's great to see a collaboration between two local photographers. When I see Jason in the local shop, I'll have to ask him, if he had to show his passport, when crossing the bridge to the island. 😀
Great collaboration with Jason. Really interesting location with loads on offer to shoot as you mentioned. Spending time with other photographers is great but as you said another vlogger that's exceptional. Thanks for sharing David, Cheers.
🤣🤣💨. Your right about how the conditions can still be put across without the need for the additional background noise and music. I've made the recommended changes to this weeks coming vlog so hopefully a start on the improvements. Thanks for all your help and advice. Cheers.
David, I get a real sense that your new camera has really increased your passion for photography. I think your images are so much sharper with your new set-up.
For all the criticism of Olympus camera sensors, their cameras have unique features that are extremely useful for photographers. Indeed these features are mainly due to the smaller sensor and hence why we don't see them on APS-C or Full Frame cameras. People who have never used or try out an Olympus camera simply don't get it and why they cannot understand why Olympus owners are so loyal and passionate about their cameras and craft.
Hi David. Always worth seeing you back at this lovely location. Definitely one for the back pocket if solitude is required when the island is mad busy in the summer !! Love the images you've captured - more and impressed with the Olympus each time I see it. Thanks for sharing this excellent video David.
Cheers Tim - much appreciated. I was up the Watkin Path this weekend and was really pleased with its low-light performance at sunrise. Vlog to come next week probably 👍 😀
Patience paid off there David. What a great location. It seems anywhere on that coastline would be glorious to shoot. I also enjoy the tidbits you share on the EM-1. While I don't have that Olympus zoom lens, I do have a Pany 35-100, which I love. That lens seems to give you wonderful range and quality. Thanks again for sharing an interesting venture.
Yes it's one of may favourite coastal locations on the island! There's so much to shoot and it's usually much less windy because the prevailing wind direction round here is from the south west - just our luck to pick a weekend with a westerly! 👍 😀
You've got a few keepers there! Shame about the wind, but there is always a challenge in landscape photography! It's either bad light, wind, rain, sun and even subject matter! That you managed to get these keepers speak volumes for you. Also glad to see you getting along swimmingly well with the E-M1Mk 2. The Procapture and focus stacking capability are seriously good and useful.
I love the vibes in your videos, david. your "You're out with a camera, how bad can it be?" still rings in my ears (from another video). greetings from northern germany, I certainly can relate to that wish for less wind :)
refreshing video, gosh must admit, I don't envy you standing in that wind! Next time I am in your area, I will definitely give you a shout so you can show me some nice spots for some landscape photography!
haha I get used it - it's a pretty regular weather state right on the Irish Sea! I'll see if I can find some more tucked away locations when you visit so the wind is less problematic! 👍 😀
Another sterling vlog David.....thoroughly enjoyed it, and your photos immensely as always. I'm very impressed with your new Olympus....it's features and image quality's amazing. I also need to catch up on your past few productions over the next week or so👍
Many thanks Edward! The new system is working out quite nicely for me so far. I had been a little concerned about the small sensor, but it makes no difference to my style of photography and with M43 meaning I'm able to afford Pro glass that helps a lot too. I'd been looking at 24-70 and 70-200 Nikon glass for my old camera body and was horrified at the price and weight. So I was forced into a complete re-think. 👍 😀
I’m going to stick my neck on the line and say that was probably your best set of images in a vlog. The first at 5:23 (think) was very nice with the light but also a see you’ve included different crops. Especially like the square and pano’s . Jason eh? Mixing with royalty. She he’d love that😬 Good stuff David 👍
Nice video as usual David. I enjoy watching the collaborations, even though very little time is spent together on camera. It must be a nice change of pace to have another vlogger around for a shoot. It’s really fun to see you enjoying your new camera. It seems to validate the switch I made to Olympus about a year ago. Looks like the wind was pretty strong on this day, but you did make the most of it. Cheers, Jeff
This is the flip side of the Jason Jones vlog that lead me to your channel. :) I do a bit of that sort of thing in Photoshop including simulate pixel shift for higher resolution output. I've found that if you work opacity in a stack manually you can often adjust the blend to get that milky smooth bowl of water spiraling in front of a waterfall that still retains good detail
Yes that's a really interesting technique and I've certainly made use of it from time to time in the past 😀👍It was a great day out with Jason because we have so much in common and yet we're quite different in many ways.
Another good one Dave, the cyclone from my last comment on wind has passed us by and only hit the coast with 8-10m waves , you would have loved it over the rocks.
Hi Wayne - I honestly thought I wouldn't really have a use for it as I don't shoot sports / wildlife etc., but it could be quite handy for seascapes! 👍 😀
I've watched Janson's vlog as well. It was nice to see the different approaches you both have. You use all the tech features that Olympus build into their cameras while Jason get his results using the Canon 5DII in a more traditional manner.
Hello Huw, many thanks for watching and taking the time to make contact. I used to use more traditional methods although not a successfully as Jason I might add! My M43 system was decided upon due to portability and convenience, but once I had it my hand it was clear that some of the features would be helpful for landscapes and so, because there has been a lot said and written about M43 limitations for landscapes I thought I mention them in passing as I haven't had this system long and there seemed to be quite a bit of interest about how I would get on with it 👍 😀
@@DGriffGallery There is a lot written about the limitations of M43 for everything! Mostly by those who have never taken the time to actually go out and use and get to know the system for any length of time. I recently had an exhibition in a gallery, they were a series of portraits, out of the 10 A3 prints two were taken on an OM-D M5 mk1 (16mp), the remaining eight on a Canon 5DII. And nobody noticed or remarked that two of the images looked different or inferior.
Again I enjoyed your video. Just a small comment. At about 1:30 into this video, you had some perfect motives for closeups of the rock and all the plants etc growing there. In fact it is a miniature landscape. A reminder to us all, that it can be useful to look behind you when out with the camera.
@@WillieJarlNilsen That's a good idea, I might have a look back over some old videos and see if there are any which warrant a re-visit to pick up a missed image 😊👍🏻
Back there again! Great shots it actually looks like there's less trees from memory, I'll need to check my archives! Do they still breed pheasants there? There used to be thousands
Hi, great video. Could we have a video of your post processing workflow please. I would love to see how you achieved the images at 12:06 and 12:14. Thanks.
Hi - I very rarely use mono because I like the colours of nature even if they're very muted by mist or cloud. I could see myself using mono exclusively for urban landscapes which is something I'm considering at the moment.
Another fine vlog. You need to update your firmware for the E-M1 MkII as it increases the number of frames in Pro Capture mode from 14 to 35. We’re coming down to Anglesey at the end of next month and hoping to find this hidden gem and try out the technique myself. Thanks again for sharing.
Yes I tried that and am still getting to grips with this system so not sure it was particularly successful - but I can see it being a very handy feature as I do like to shoot waves 👍 😀
@@DGriffGallery Hi David my initial comment was based on about 5mins worth of video before I left to go out! now that I've watched the rest I notice you do indeed use pro-capture:-), What I find works best using pro-capture is to not watch the "action" through the screen or view finder press the shutter half-way then watch for the moment pressing the shutter like this gives many more keepers, also initially try using the low rather than High until you are used to it, that way avoiding hundreds of frames.
