    It’s amazing how civil and clear each candidate answered the questions, whether you thought the answers were substantive enough or not, there were actually ANSWERS that addressed the actual questions asked. I’d nearly forgotten how that sounded.

      Politicians used to lie back then, but at least they had some manners and respect, unlike Trump who is a completely self-centered person. Bush was a horrible bigot and at least borderline sociopath, Obama promised a lot but didn't get that much done. Maybe it's just political realism. I'm not American so maybe I don't know all the nuances. Anyway, I think Obama was just a better speaker than a person. IMO Bernie Sanders was the person America needed as president, but he was the person Democratic voters didn't deserve.

      I'd love that too, except Stewart considers himself a comedian not a journalist. I think comedians moderating debates is a great idea but I don't think many others do. Also, instead of the droning on from the tired cloned newscasters spewing the exact same rhetoric (except Fox) it gets tiresome. So let the comedians do it, they can encapsulate the debate or whatever and make their conclusions about it. At least we know their bias before even watching. with the newscasters, they're more witchy wrt to their biases. Personal beef is we need to get rid of the US/THEM dichotomy. Trump keeps referring to "them." Who. Dems keep referring to "US" who? This furthers divides the country. It's not us/them it's all of us. Laws apply to the entire country, unless you're needing an abortion or underage marriage, then it's a road trip.

      Obama made a speech in 2011 trashing Trump and why Trump made the decision to run in 2016. Thanks to Obama's trash talk you are going to get another 4 years of Trump.
      It was April of 2011. For weeks, Donald Trump had been fanning the flames of the “birther” movement and attacking President Barack Obama on television - demanding that Obama produce his birth certificate, implying that he was not born in the United States, and questioning both his religious identity and the legality of his presidency.
      But on April 30, the tables were turned. Trump was the recipient of President Obama’s jokes at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner - and Trump political adviser Roger Stone tells FRONTLINE in The Choice 2016 that the dinner was a turning point for Trump.

      The ACA allowed me to attain affordable health insurance and for me to focus on, and become very successful in, my career over the last 12 years. I’ve watched as so many others have started their own businesses over the past five years or so, many motivated by the havoc wreaked on jobs by Covid and the desire to work remotely. Our country is getting more diverse in terms of how, when, where, and what we do for work. Before, we all needed full time jobs with benefits in order to get insurance. Now, we have so much more control over how we choose to live our lives and work, thanks to the ACA.

    The underlined motive from everything said by the candidates, is FEAR. Almost every subject panders to fear. Fear or promises of prosperity. Tho, i think the promises are initially well intended, they often are as empty as the hearts of the politicians that made them. Its a sad time to live for some. I am blessed beyond measure.

    • @SimonBuchanNz
      @SimonBuchanNz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mean, yeah: the point is what they're going to do so you vote for them, and those will be things in the future that you want or don't want: promising to give you a thing you want, or protecting you from a thing you fear.
      The problem isn't playing to fear, it's playing to unfounded fears, or manufacturing fears to play to.
      These clips are showing the difference between politics then and now, where the talking points were related to things that actually happened, and not blatant, often racist, lies.
