  • This is an inside look of a typical Japanese family's house in Tokyo Japan. This is a very common home in Tokyo. Unlike many people who rent Tokyo Apartments, this is a rented Tokyo House. The design of the Tokyo Home is very similar to other Japan homes except maybe the basement and attic.

I'm Japanese, but since I live in the countryside, I'm always surprised by the small size of the house in the city. It can't be helped because the population is large and the price of land is high, but I don't think it's very good to live in the city if there are no work problems.

It’s very small compared to American homes. Like everything is the toy version of our style. Not to belittle Japanese styled homes. I love the architecture, but the size is the issue in the city. Only place I know that has this small of housing, well I should say. Only place I know that is similar but still not as small is new York, but it’s so over priced compared to Tokyo, I don’t think most people in the world could afford it. Most are very successful people that live in Manhattan and still live in small apartments making triple most peoples income.

Where ever there are possibilities of the house collapsing, with walls falling in, a basement is not recommended, as it may crush everyone in it and may not be dug out for several days after an earthquake. Flexible foundations and shallow ones are recommended for less damage in this Earthquake Prone area.
