  • What do you do when throwing pots? I've been listening to artist lecture series. Or when too tired from farm work and making 100's of Christmas wreaths I read a book. How many potters know of Georgia O'Keeffe's ceramic or her work in the kitchen?
    'A Painter's Kitchen', Margaret Wood, Museum of New Mexico Press, 2009.
    'Portrait of an Artist', Laurie Lisle, Seaview Books, 1980.
    'Georgia O'Keeffe', The Viking Press,1976.
    'Growing Up with O'Keeffe: Preserving the Historic Ghost Ranch Home', Agapita Lopez, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, TH-cam, 2022. • Growing Up with O’Keef...

    Georgia O'Keefe is famous for her paintings, which she was prolific in. Never heard she did any pottery work, interesting.

      Yea, how about that. About 30 pottery works. Also, just like us growing food for her own table right outside her door, just like us. That I really like. Always a big Aloha.

    Hi Jeff. The classic gourmet-potter-artist is Kitaoji Rosanjin. He was a passionate gourmet who went to the extreme of mastering many of the Japanese pottery traditions in order to make dishes in which to serve his food. He is very famous in Japan and his pieces are extremely tasteful and attractive. He had a fascinating life and was very passionate and insightful about the need for an authentically aesthetic existence. His writings and reflections on the culinary-aesthetic life are poetic and of pure inspiration. If you don't know him, you should check him out.

      Hey, thanks. Took a quick look to wet the appetite. Tasteful, I'll definitely be taking a bigger bite. I do an upscale farm market and do see pots as sustenance to feed the soul.

    I love that you bring real life into the art form. Context is everything, and learning the back story makes art interesting for those who simply want to enjoy instead of practice. Happy Thanksgiving Jeff!

    I didn't know about Georgia O'Keeffe, but the name itslef sounds good to me, as I love Georgia (in the US and the ex USSR) and I like Keith Richards' work in the Rolling Stones. I know it doesn't matter, but anyway... ;)

    And the answer I just discovered is she made about 30 ceramic works. This came from Agapita Lopez who has been Executive Director of the Georgia O'Keeffe Foundation. Among her many other big, titled positions, what made her lecture the best of the dozens I saw on TH-cam was that she grows up in the O'Keeffe home. Her mother cooked for, and grandfather was the estate horticulturalist and she herself went on to be personal secretary. Here is a link to her talk from the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. th-cam.com/video/yIePaStuH6Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=obW6kh5Md4v0I3RE Happy Thanksgiving.

    Thanks for the Video! Just the other night, I found myself watching a documentary on Georgia O’K… A few years ago I found myself at Ghost Ranch/Abiquiu… her “Splendid Isolation”(WarrenZevon🎶) On that adventure was where I became immersed in Clay… Literally & figuratively… Happy Thanksgiving, Jeff… I’ll be driving on Thanksgiving, Millheim bound for a workshop with Simon this weekend!

      Thanks so much all so exciting to hear. I meant to include a photo of moms mom, my amateur artist grandmother doing an O'Keeffe pose in a garden with norther hardy cactus in it. My interest was renewed when I found the cookbook last January and with my interest in horticulture have contemplated a visit too when discovering what has evolved around her life's legacy.
      Wish I'd known Milheim Simon was so close when I'd first come back to the wheel. A little latter I did sign up but coved came along and I enjoyed the solitude of my little mountain. All teachers have their own methods and there is great validity to Simons so be open to it and use every moment. And if in the woods west of Pittsburgh is on your way home stop and tell me all about it. Or I'll watch for your comments in one of my pottery videos. Ask Simon if he practiced up for the workshop. Enjoy your special Thanksgiving weekend.

      Thought of you when I sold the salt pig pig this fall. a guy walks up to me with it in his hand. I smiled and shook my head. It had a price on it and was featured in my salt pig and salt cellar display, but I hadn't really thought of letting it go. It's now out in the world. Thanks for that challenge. Happy Thanksgiving.

      @pottersjournal  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      and the best cooks don't use recipes. you learn from the food's stories. this book had food stories and an artist to boot.
