Rimac Concept_One vs Bugatti Veyron - Croatia Coast Road Duel!

- When Rimac Automobili founder Mate Rimac issued an invitation to Lord Pembroke to drive the Concept_One 'head-to-head' with his Veyron in Croatia, we knew it was time to warm up the Wilton Classic and Supercar transporter and round up the video crew!
This first film shows Lord Pembroke and Mate Rimac familiarising themselves with the two cars on a chilly morning blast along Croatia's fabulous Adriatic Coast Road.

Daniels30 The chiron is more of a tribute to petrol engines. It will probably make a good collector car in the future. And surprisingly, it still beats almost any supercar in 0-60 times and top speed. Rumor has it that Bugatti is considering doing a hybrid Chiron in the future. That would be very interesting!
Hate to admit it but it looks like a dinosaur compared to the concept one.
That´s the main problem with the comparison. The Veyron, the Enzo, the F1, the 959, the 300 SL are some of the best cars in history (talking about performance) but comparing them (performance, safety, efficiency) with newer cars it´s pointless.

it's interesting how the veyron looks slow and tired when it's put next to the concept_one
Obviously two very different machine. Veyron is a land speed record lumbering brute not the best at sharp corners and public road speeds. The Concept One's torque vectoring and instant torque just loved twisting public roads. The environment was an unfair advantage to the Rimac.

I absolutely agree with you. Nothing will ever replace petrol power. But, looking at it from this point in time, it's very obvious that it will soon be replaced by electric power. We still love it like we used to, but future is at our doorstep.

Maybe, but a lot of reviews of the Bugatti Veyron said it was a lot better than what you would except at cornering, with a very sweet neutral balance that makes it a very easy car to hustle.
It's just because now we shifted to a whole new dimension with torque steering and four wheel steer...
And the styling (looking slow and tired) in itself is quite original, we have to admit. And it's eleven years old (well, more, because the definitive design was shown as a concept car in 2003, which means it's (cough) 13-4 years old... And cars became a whole lot more agressive during this time.
Jean-Noël Fermaud Torque steering and four wheel steering aren't totally new dating from 1980s. Those systems are more refined in the present and were less popular due to high cost of maintenance. Honda Prelude, Mazda 626 WS, Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 have them.

Shame they didn't use a closed road to do a fair comparison between both cars, as the Rimac creator would've seen the difference between both cars at full throttle, as the Bugatti wasn't created for acceleration, but for high speed travel....hence why Bugatti Chiron holds the fastest production car record.....
Boomboom actually the veyron is one of the quickest and fastest cars, If I'm not mistaken the vitesse or super sport is 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, if it's lunched right and really high top speed
Apparently this is the first video of 3 all I know is that one of the other videos will be a track test, I think that they will be evenly matched on the track, and the Veyron will win high speed accel and Concept will win low speed accel.
Veyron would win lap time every time since batteries tend to heat up and loose a lot of performance. Why do you think neither Rimac nor Tesla have done Nurburgring lap?? All they ever boast about is 0-60.
Your probably right there, but it remains to be seen with this Rimac, however NIO EP9 does the Nurburgring in roughly 7mins and thats electric. We all know the Tesla is just a drag car completely agree there.
reason why they havnt done lap times is because the nurburgring has put speed limits in certain spots due to lots of accidents. Im pretty sure a gtr crashed and killed an on looker so down the massive straight the speed limit is 200kmh now if im not mistaken.

Veyron is still a Benchmark. its just is!!! As a car brand, Building process. and everyone is aiming to be faster then Bugatti. That means, anytime I will choose Veyron. I dont want to fly and driving from Point A to Point B in style Bugatti will do it better. Its History, Its the Brand, Its just the Number 1.

It sure was a Benchmark during is time a decade ago. I fully agree with your there. But times have changed it is now an unfair fight. The march of technology has created a new generation. In this new generation is the Chiron which is a Land Speed Record machine and not much focus of Street Speeds. Land Speed Record on 4 wheels is just not that viable anymore, we're getting into Ground Effect Jet speeds. It has little meaning to the mere mortal. What is more viable and usable now is massive braking and sustained acceleration around sharp corners. The Demands of the Benchmark has changed.
I live nearby. Almost got killed here on this road in my Mazda RX8.. the road goes few hudert miles along Croatian coastline

batteries/motor for regera is supplied by rimac XD and rimac is quicker than regera.. not sure about 1:1 or agera rs

Ok. And I'm not entirely sure about the Agera RS. But Koenigsegg says the Regera accelerates quicker than the Agera R and One:1.
0-100 km/h Agera R 2.8s, One:1 2.8s, Regera 2.7s.
0-200 km/h Agera R 7.68s, One:1 6.6s, Regera 6.6s
0-300 km/h Agera R 14.53s, One:1 11.92s, Regera 10.9s
People never seem to understand the benefit of electric cars. Unlike a combustion engine that effectively has to work itself up to high RPMs and gear changes, an electric motor can just be toggled to on/off or anywhere inbetween as needed by the driver. At this point, the only limitation is the literal power of the motors to respond to the request and the batteries to sustain it.
Drag race? Don't tell us you didn't put it side to side on some runway?

Abhishek Jadhav of course eventually the buggatti would pass simply because it has Much more horse power and can keep pulling but if we do a quarter mile drag race, the instant electric torque and lighter weight of the rimac will give it a huge jump off the line that would crush the buggatti in the quarter mile before the buggatti would catch up.... During the first part of the launch, the rimac will humiliate the buggatti and make it look like it's going backwords, there is also inevitably a little bit of turbo lag for the buggatti even with launch control
Concept one is not new car either.. I worked near Rimac factory and i saw first car maybe 6 years ago or even more. There is S model, i saw that one last year and that one is even quicker with better batteries. Rimac is micro company when compared to VW and it takes a lot more time to build cars.

The problem is the petrol car can go at full tilt all day long until the tank is empty. The electric car can't do this. It looses power by use. Look at the Tesla. Impressive performance at first but after a few times full throttle the car will loose the ability to go full tilt until the battery is at maximum again. And even then the car will protect the battery from overheating by turning the power output down or by simply going into safe limp-home mode.
Tesla is not Rimac. Not even close.
Christian von Koenigsegg must have a bad feeling now , betting on the wrong horse. But he have made a hell out of that horse, must give him creds for that.

Electric cars can be fun like Formula E cars, Citroen Survolt, Mercedes SLS Electric. Think like RC cars. The main concern is battery.

Croatian (I'm from there FYI) coastline and beaches are so attractive yet there are no sports and super cars driving around which is absolutely stupid, all you see are some everyday vehicles, trucks and coaches. If I really want to see fast cars personally, then I'll haul my ass to Monte Carlo.

Of course the throttle response is slow on Veyron what did you expect ? Its a 4 stroke 16cyl combustion engine it takes 4 steps to produce power its not a stupid motor with a battery . Electric motors have instant torque and therefore have better throttle response ! Dont compare a stupid battery car with a veyron !

That was one of the most boring car videos I have ever seen. Two cars driving slowly along a winding road, one of them a CEO driving a competitor who refused to acknowledge more than basics about the car he was driving.
And from what I can tell his $900K supercar can't get to 60 faster than a Tesla, and can't even approach the top speed of a Veyron. Was this just a commercial for a company that sells 8 cars a year?
