I started woodworking 2 years ago when I wanted a new nightstand, and didn't want press board. Since then I've built 2 desks, a TV stand with storage, a tv shelf, 3 side tables, and a shelving unit for my printer. You are an inspiration.
I’m Irish and I never have a problem understanding your accent. And the way you pronounce TEMPLATE is how we do on this side of the water. The fact that you are only a few years doing woodworking is amazing and a credit to you. Agree. In an ever-increasing digital world, and once they are old enough, kids should be in charge of developing their online identity......not their parents. Kids are not here to bring attention to their parents.

It's sad to hear how so many take for granted what you do and bash the petty things. I've already admired your skills and ingenuity and now even more knowing your thick skin and keeping things real. I started with a skill saw, random orbital sander and of course a router. Those 3 tools made desks, Cedar chests, shelves, cabinets and numerous more projects. Life was much simpler with 3 tools, now with a big shop and endless power tools they all get used less. But it is more enjoyable when I can use them.

Great video. FAQ’s are really helpful, in finding out more of what it takes, to either build the project, and to make the videos. I have one piece of feedback. For me, its not that I like to see you fail, its good to see that everyone makes mistakes, including you. But what is great about that mistake, you come up with either a way to work around it or a fix.
Totally get it. It could be really disheartening when you fail in your own work and all you see are perfect projects other ppl are making. And that’s why I chose to include the mistakes. Bc I remember feeling that way in the beginning 👍

I love this!!! I’ve been a design engineer for almost 2 decades and never got the satisfaction of feeling a creation that I dreamt up and made with my own hands. I'm a recently retired Electrical Engineer, and I love the fact that you can relate to me - or rather "us" - those who aspire to make homemade beautiful stuff. Also, I love that you use a "job site table saw" rather than a huge heavy table saw with a huge table built around it. I don't have a woodshop - I have a two car garage that is filled with house overflow, my boat, a 4x4 ATV and my tools. So my "unheated" work area is smallish. I appreciate you sharing what tools are most valuable to you as well.
We are not perfect. Steve Ramsey said in his 40 years of woodworking experience there is not a single of his projects which is 100% flawless. But luckily in woodworking we can fix many mistakes. BTW, this video is greatly helpful to know more about you. You are doing awesome. Keep going +1

Of all the colloquial pronunciations saying "draw" instead of "drawer" is one of my favorites. I always assumed it was because you 'draw' it from the chest and it was a different word altogether, but seeing you spell the word the way I'm used to made me realize it's just a different (but not uncommon) dialect. Love your channel.
"One Step Forward and Two Steps Backward" is my clearest way of doing almost anything in life. Your discourse was absolutely wonderful and honest. Family comes first and needs to be protected. About failures: Yes, I love it when youtube woodworkers (and others) show their failures. BECAUSE I want so see how they deal with it / fix it / make it work. Shit happens to me all the time and I learn most from other peoples oopses and their fixes. Please keep showing these.
This is a great session. I really appreciated hearing about how you keep work and family separate. I like that you treat it like a "Real Job" (Yes, I know it is.) and keep hours for each part of your life. You seem to enjoy what you are doing, and I am enriched by your content.

In my late 20s, I helped a friend move to New England. We went to a grocery store, and an announcement about daily specials came over the loud speakers. First experience with a Bostonian accent - I laughed myself silly. I am sure the customers thought I was nuts, and maybe rude.
I subscribed a long time ago because I thought you explained stuff so well, but I'd also note that you are just so naturally genuine and personable (I see that is a repeat comment, so what ...) that you make it very enjoyable to watch. I was a bit surprised though at how much extra time creating video takes over just doing projects, but I believe it. All the best for you and your family!

I'm glad to see someone else deploy the same spray both exhaust system that I typically use. My fan a different brand though. I also have been contemplating getting a bench top drill press and mount it on the side of a wooden bench top and mounting it to the top of an old tool cart that I have in the corner. It could still be used for storage.
I find it amazing that in 2021 a skilled woman has to defend her work as hers (not the husband), or defend her family's privacy (Male youtube woodworkers that do not show their family are asked anout it?). You make great stuff and make great videos, thank you!

I love that you are probably inspiring other women to "break through" the "norms" of men only being in the shops. I am 73 and first started my woodworking as a hobby in the 80's while working as a carpenter/renovator but still consider myself a novice. I've learned from and been inspired by your videos. Excellent Q&A! Was just visiting and your name came up when discussing the latest issue of Fine Woodworking Magazine and your adjustable router table fence article. I mentioned that I followed your channel and then spoke about the things that have struck me over the years. No heat in garage, amazing power lift router table, your problem solving skills and jig designs!!! Someone pondered why you would have such an expensive router setup but no heat, and I didn't have an answer, now I do:)! Most important tool that you couldn't live without, ALL-THINGS-ROUTER, infrastructure of shop not conducive to heat or running high powered machines, and you're willing to be patient to get what you want! Outstanding!!!

Just so you know, I appreciate when you show your mistakes because it makes me realize that it's ok to do that. Too often project builders were just show it as if it was a blink of an eye and done. The other night I was talking to my daughter and our conversation was around tools... she is her fathers daughter... she is doing over her kitchen all new cabinets, knocked down a wall and expanding the kitchen. Then we got into where to buy tools... and which ones are the most important to have, the biggest bang for your buck tools... it was a very interesting conversation! Also, she has 9 kids, full time job and home schools and she has more energy... I put her on to your videos. I found this very interesting how you got started, now... I understand why your videos are so well put together, probably why you're one of my favorite woodworkers! Great job, keep up the good work... another morning coffee video for me! :)
I nearly fell off of my chair when you got to the question about people thinking your husband does all the work. People actually think that? Good gravy! People actually think that taking the time and trouble to "pretend" a woman does her own woodworking makes more sense than you actually doing the work yourself?That's just bonkers and backwards. With each video you release, you continue to be a huge inspiration to so many of us.
Content creation suggestion: When you need a break or don’t have an idea - How you’ve fixed mistakes you’ve made. Also - sell some projects or do some custom so you have space or reason to keep this going.
Thanks for all you do. Appreciate the transparency in your videos and your problem solving approach to working thru a project. I, too, have moved on from frustration with mistakes to dealing with them as just a part of the process. I had a college professor say once that “confusion [read mistakes] is the state of learning”. I didn’t really grasp this at first, but I do appreciate that and it’s the challenge and problem solving part of woodworking in addition to the creativity outlet I enjoy the most.
I appreciate how you tend to choose distinctive projects for your videos - knowing what's already been done well by other woodworkers and not duplicating it.

I have a regular circular saw and a very small or mini circular saw 3 1/2. Have you ever feared working with saws or have you ever had some scary moments, do you mind sharing or do you mind making a video on safety so that beginners like myself can start building projects with confidence and can move past our fears?

I really appreciate how that you leave at least some of your mistakes in your videos. It shows things to look out for and that it is a process that you are learning from. It also appears that you are confident in yourself enough that you don't have to try to make yourself look perfect. It's why I, and I think at least some others keep watching.
I like to see the content makers like yourself be real and show the mistakes. We are all human. We know anyone can edit out with computer editing mistakes. Don't let it get you down. Keep learning and try to keep from repeating the same mistakes. Knowing and seeing others learn gives newer woodworkers the confidence that they can overcome the problem too.
This might sound stupid, but one of the reasons I keep coming back to your channel is that you are real and you show your mistakes and you show basic ways of doing things that other wood workers don't show.
I really like your family/shop time is allocated and you should be praised for it. One area I would like to see you expand into your Shaper Origin. I have one and would like to see more owners put up videos of their projects. Keep the good stuff coming.
I think it's amazing how you balance family and work. Time management is a needed skill and most of us fail at it. I'm a dad and constantly having to divide my time between work and family. Awesome Q and A. I've been a woodworker for 29 years. If your not making mistakes, your not learning to perfect and outcome.
I started with a skill saw, random orbital sander and of course a router. Those 3 tools made desks, Cedar chests, shelves, cabinets and numerous more projects. Life was much simpler with 3 tools, now with a big shop and endless power tools they all get used less. But it is more enjoyable when I can use them.

Great video. FAQ’s are really helpful, in finding out more of what it takes, to either build the project, and to make the videos. I have one piece of feedback. For me, its not that I like to see you fail, its good to see that everyone makes mistakes, including you. But what is great about that mistake, you come up with either a way to work around it or a fix.
Totally get it. It could be really disheartening when you fail in your own work and all you see are perfect projects other ppl are making. And that’s why I chose to include the mistakes. Bc I remember feeling that way in the beginning 👍

I'm a recently retired Electrical Engineer, and I love the fact that you can relate to me - or rather "us" - those who aspire to make homemade beautiful stuff. Also, I love that you use a "job site table saw" rather than a huge heavy table saw with a huge table built around it. I don't have a woodshop - I have a two car garage that is filled with house overflow, my boat, a 4x4 ATV and my tools. So my "unheated" work area is smallish. I appreciate you sharing what tools are most valuable to you as well.

We are not perfect. Steve Ramsey said in his 40 years of woodworking experience there is not a single of his projects which is 100% flawless. But luckily in woodworking we can fix many mistakes.

Of all the colloquial pronunciations saying "draw" instead of "drawer" is one of my favorites. I always assumed it was because you 'draw' it from the chest and it was a different word altogether, but seeing you spell the word the way I'm used to made me realize it's just a different (but not uncommon) dialect. Love your channel.

In my late 20s, I helped a friend move to New England. We went to a grocery store, and an announcement about daily specials came over the loud speakers. First experience with a Bostonian accent - I laughed myself silly. I am sure the customers thought I was nuts, and maybe rude.
I subscribed a long time ago because I thought you explained stuff so well, but I'd also note that you are just so naturally genuine and personable (I see that is a repeat comment, so what ...) that you make it very enjoyable to watch. I was a bit surprised though at how much extra time creating video takes over just doing projects, but I believe it. All the best for you and your family!

I'm glad to see someone else deploy the same spray both exhaust system that I typically use. My fan a different brand though.
I also have been contemplating getting a bench top drill press and mount it on the side of a wooden bench top and mounting it to the top of an old tool cart that I have in the corner. It could still be used for storage.
I find it amazing that in 2021 a skilled woman has to defend her work as hers (not the husband), or defend her family's privacy (Male youtube woodworkers that do not show their family are asked anout it?). You make great stuff and make great videos, thank you!

I am 73 and first started my woodworking as a hobby in the 80's while working as a carpenter/renovator but still consider myself a novice. I've learned from and been inspired by your videos. Excellent Q&A! Was just visiting and your name came up when discussing the latest issue of Fine Woodworking Magazine and your adjustable router table fence article. I mentioned that I followed your channel and then spoke about the things that have struck me over the years. No heat in garage, amazing power lift router table, your problem solving skills and jig designs!!! Someone pondered why you would have such an expensive router setup but no heat, and I didn't have an answer, now I do:)! Most important tool that you couldn't live without, ALL-THINGS-ROUTER, infrastructure of shop not conducive to heat or running high powered machines, and you're willing to be patient to get what you want! Outstanding!!!

Just so you know, I appreciate when you show your mistakes because it makes me realize that it's ok to do that. Too often project builders were just show it as if it was a blink of an eye and done. The other night I was talking to my daughter and our conversation was around tools... she is her fathers daughter... she is doing over her kitchen all new cabinets, knocked down a wall and expanding the kitchen. Then we got into where to buy tools... and which ones are the most important to have, the biggest bang for your buck tools... it was a very interesting conversation! Also, she has 9 kids, full time job and home schools and she has more energy... I put her on to your videos. I found this very interesting how you got started, now... I understand why your videos are so well put together, probably why you're one of my favorite woodworkers! Great job, keep up the good work... another morning coffee video for me! :)

I nearly fell off of my chair when you got to the question about people thinking your husband does all the work. People actually think that? Good gravy! People actually think that taking the time and trouble to "pretend" a woman does her own woodworking makes more sense than you actually doing the work yourself?That's just bonkers and backwards. With each video you release, you continue to be a huge inspiration to so many of us.
Content creation suggestion: When you need a break or don’t have an idea - How you’ve fixed mistakes you’ve made.
Also - sell some projects or do some custom so you have space or reason to keep this going.
Thanks for all you do. Appreciate the transparency in your videos and your problem solving approach to working thru a project. I, too, have moved on from frustration with mistakes to dealing with them as just a part of the process. I had a college professor say once that “confusion [read mistakes] is the state of learning”. I didn’t really grasp this at first, but I do appreciate that and it’s the challenge and problem solving part of woodworking in addition to the creativity outlet I enjoy the most.

I have a regular circular saw and a very small or mini circular saw 3 1/2. Im starting at this stuff aND just had this vid playing in the background....anyway the answer you gave about your kids not old enough to make the decision to be in front of the world made me just think "she is a good mom".
