Another great historical account of a landscaper I hadn’t heard of. Your video production is also brilliant, you are becoming a very accomplished moviemaker.
Thank you for sharing the story about Jens Jensen. I loved hearing his comments about the beauty of the prairie. I went to college in the midwest coming from the East Coast. I learned to see the beauty in the prairie and the native plants. Jens had great foresight when he spoke about how man was destroying the earth at that time, but sad that we did not listen.
I enjoyed this story immensely. It ended too soon for me. So glad that Jensen held firm to his convictions regardless of the cost. We need more of that today.
I discovered your channel recently. I like your narrative style. Your approach to suburban design is refreshing. Your advocacy of native plant use is timely and important. The video on Jensen was very interesting. I hope those of us who have converted our lawns for the benefit of biodiversity can inspire others to do the same. We are in "year two" of our five year plan. The rewards of this stewardship are already being seen with new colors, lifeforms, and fragrances. What a gift nature provides!
How inspiring! I love hearing about other people that are having success. I was amazed at the number of pollinators in my new garden. I can't wait to continue. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
When you make this type of video I feel as if I’m right there with you, and I get a wonderful education in a small amount of time! I also love the videos of your garden! Thank you. Peace-
Great video Sue. So interesting. Jenson was a great preserver of natural landscapes and also able to create beautiful long lasting parks. And the boat house with the layered stone is fabulous. Thanks for sharing this piece of garden history.
Very interesting to learn about Jensens design for natural landscaping. Beautiful composition of this video of his gardening legacy. A true artist and naturalist.
Very interesting! I loved this video so much, I shared it on my own FB page. A lot can be learned from this visionary, but until your video I knew nothing of him or his contributions. You're a great narrator and teacher!!
Thanks for watching the video Jasmine. I was amazed at Jensen's story. I was introduced to him from my visit to the Henry Ford Estate Fairlane. Can you believe the drama?
I grew up in Beverly and spent many happy days at Crescent Park, which he designed. I later worked for Ford Motor Company and was able to spend time at the Ford Estate. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks so much for sharing your comment. I worked for Ford and volunteered at the Henry Ford Estate in the gardens. I just love the story of a place. Thanks for watching.
Late to the party here, but this is wonderful! My Dad was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, and we used to talk about open space, houses that blend into their surroundings, and the effect of one's environment on their well being. I don't know if he was aware of Jensen, but he would have loved this video. I found some very interesting articles he'd saved from his early days (1958) working for the Los Angeles County Planning Dept. I'm always pleased to learn of people with vision who were ahead of their time, and focused on the benefit to humanity and the planet. Thank you for sharing this terrific story.
Thank you. I have to admit that I am crazy about history and the stories about historic gardeners. It amazes me how much people accomplished from shear observation and experimentation. So inspiring.
Fascinating! I so relate to gardens being a peaceful place. I must visit HF Estates next season. I'm 61 lived 10 min away for many years and have never been. Thank you for this. 😊
He designed so many amazing spaces. I think my favorite is the house he designed for Edsel Ford in Maine. That property is called Skylands and it was purchased by Martha Stewart. It is AMAZING!
Your beautiful narration and the visuals brought me to tears! My friends laugh because I’d rather have fieldstones than an expensive purse! Thank you 🙏
Thanks for watching. I think he would keep sharing his love of nature and urge all of us to care for it. He is an inspiring character in terms of his love for landscapes.
Thank you making these kind of videos. I love your videos! They are educational and filled with inspirations. It is these videos that really motivates me to get in my garden and get things done. It gives me the courage to keep designing or re-design my tiny garden and I thank you for your videos.
Interesting story, made me happy to hear someone was concerned about the landscape during the industrial revolution and the impact they made during that time as an individual. Thank you for sharing and great job putting together the video and information. Looking forward to learning more!
I already knew of Jensen but had never heard his quote about man destroying nature - iit should be sent to every state representative with the date he said it posted!
I love Belle Isle and I am so excited that they are currently restoring the conservatory. Are you interesting in the overall story of how the island ended up as a park?
@@GardenMoxie A history of Belle Isle would be interesting as we would learn who had the foresight to set aside this space as an urban oasis. Also maybe a walk through the Oulduff (spelling?) designed gardens.
@@donnaengland335 It is a cool place. I have a video on my channel about the Oudolf garden if you want to see it from last Fall. I haven't been there yet this season.
I've been given the opportunity to be the Master Gardener tasked with the restoration of one of Jensen's garden designs in Illinois, it's the opportunity of a life time.

I agree. I so enjoy these historical vignettes.
Love the history. Nice to learn of someone who lived more by principle than cash flow.
I thought the same thing. He loved nature and was unwilling to compromise.

I learned of Jens Jensen from Martha Stewart when she wrote about her mansion in Maine built for the Ford family. Impressive landscape design!
Oh yes. That property in Maine is a master piece, isn't it? How fortunate it is in the hands of a great artist like Martha Stewart.

I believe that his great, great grandson is continuing his legacy near Madison Wisconsin.
Fantastic! I need to do more research into that. Thanks for sharing.
