Hi, love this video. I'm Dutch and I had the honour to meet Piet Oudolf a couple of times at his home and see his own garden. It was a beautiful experience and back than he and his wife had a beautiful nursery. Many of those perennials I bought from there ( some are 20+ years) are still very good and flowering year after year there socks off🌺💮 , so to me he is a real garden Hero! I love the Detroit garden, very beautiful 💫✨ Bye.
What a coincidence! I have admired P.Oudolf for years and I have recently bought his book about creating natural gardens. I love his style of planting, I wish I had more space to do the same.
I love his style too. It was really eye opening to watch the garden being planted. There are thousands of plants. I bought the book Planting-A New Perspective by Oudolf and Kingsbury and it's fantastic as well.
My most cherished childhood memories are of playing in the tall grass fields of my grandparent’s pastures. Now that I have space for a garden I’ve been trying to design a border that evokes the old farm using grasses, tall flowers and crushed shell paths. I had no idea this was a style, much less a named style. This garden is just beautiful!
Thank you for this video. For me, as a dutch person living in michigan, its nice to see that Piet Oudolf designed the Detroit garden on Belle Isle. I always wanted to see Belle Isle and now especially. I love visiting gardens. But since I live at Higgins Lake it's a bit far unfortunately. I guess I will have to settle for his book for now. 😊
It is truly lush and amazing garden, I think Roy Diblick was a co-designer of this particular garden. Thank you for the beautiful, relaxing and as always very informative video.
I think they have worked together here and there. Roy is a great source of information. I visited his nursery in Wisconsin a few years ago, there is a beautiful garden attached for customers to wander through.
Thanks for the tour of this new garden! I love Piet Oudolf's work, especially the use of grasses. Can't wait to go back to the Lurie Garden in Chicago this Spring.
Thank you Garden Moxie for showing a beautiful jewel in Detroit, Michigan. I didn't know about this new garden or heard of the garden designer. I visited Belle Isle Park last in 2021 for a birthday party. I will take a ride to visit this summer. I won't be getting on the Giant Slide ride, lol... 😳 I had way too much fun on it growing up. I love watching your videos and some people can be so rude in the comments section. Great work! ❤
I am a huge Oudolf fan. You can appreciate how amazed I was when I learned he was building a garden in Detroit. I love being able to see it through all the seasons. Autumn, in my opinion, is the best.
This is the reason I watch and follow a lot of TH-camr in garden interests. This is the way a learn and get inspired. Thanks for sharing, following from Ohio .
I did not know Piet Oudolf had designed a garden on Belle Isle. I am going to plan a visit this summer. I love the natural look and this is going to be a treat. I go to Dow Gardens frequently and enjoy that. Thank you
I love your videos for the beautiful visuals, plant info, narration, and inspiration! This famous designer and plantsman's name is pronounced "Oooo dof", and not "Ol dorf."
Hi Cindy. You can check out the Oudolf Garden Detroit website for tons of details on the plants. They have an amazing interactive planting plan. As far as mispronouncing Piet's name...I did my best. Thanks for being kind about it.
I recommend checking out the Oudolf Garden Detroit website. They have tons of information about the plants. The garden in the video sits in full sun. You can do something similar. You just need to pick plants that right for the conditions where the garden will be.
That is Calamintha nepeta subsp. nepeta. The Oudolf Garden Detroit website has an interactive map that is pretty amazing. They also list all the plant photos at this link: oudolfgardendetroit.org/education/plant-images/
It's a great plant. I have lots in my garden. Just make sure you get the straight species as it is the pollinators favorite and it doesn't spread. It is one of the top two pollinator plants in my yard. 2:31

Beautiful video, but I’m afraid mispronounces the designer’s name. ˈʌudɔl(ə)f. That’s OU like ouch! dolf, rhymes with golf. But a lovely tour nevertheless.
Nice video friend, you're a great presenter! And a very beautiful garden, so naturalistic and relaxed. Loved it!
Thank you and thanks for watching.

I love his gardens too. The garden in Detroit is gorgeous.
It's a great place and should be in every city. I dream of having such a garden in my city, Tarnów, Poland.

Sorry but you're actually wrong. Maybe you're describing a nativised pronunciation, but originally it's pronounced "Ow-dolf" [ˈpeet' ˈʌudɔl(ə)f]
Lovely video!
Thanks so much.
Beautiful, soothing and informative Sue. On my list to visit.
Thanks Jo-Ann. It would be fun to tour the garden together.

Indeed! That is on my list of gardens I want to visit.
Beautiful video Sue xx
I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's a great garden to visit.
You might like Greg Loades’ book The Modern Cottage Garden. It combines classic cottage gardening with the new perennial movement. 🌸
Wishing Piet's name would have been pronounced correctly, and more specific examples of plants given.

He has many great books on his gardens and the different kinds of plants. The plants will vary on where you live.
Awesome. Can one do some of this with dappled sun and adjoining woods? Any links?
