Hunsur City

The average literacy rate of Hunsur city is 69% which is higher than the national average of 59%. Sri D Devaraj Urs Government First Grade College is the biggest educational organization in Hunsur. St.Joseph's College and Chayadevi College are prominent organizations in the city. Hunsur is located on the road to Mangalore city on the Arabian coast. Hassan city lies on the northern side of Hunsur at a distance of 100 kilometers. Hunsur has an average elevation of 2,600 feet above sea level and the climate is cool throughout the year. The river Lakshmana Tirtha flows through the town and is crossed by two bridges. Hunsur Taluk has a total population of 300,000 people. D. Devaraj Urs, former Chief Minister of Karnataka belongs to Hunsur. Hunsur has become a rich city because of the tobacco cultivation and timber industry in this locality. The government of India has established two Tobacco research stations in Hunsur city. The hanging bridge and the riverside park at Brahmin Street attract many tourists. There is a Tibetan settlement at Gurupura village at a distance of 14 kilometers from Hunsur. The Tibetan people have established many monasteries and schools in this village. Deviprasad restaurant near the old bridge is frequented by the Tibetan people. Charminar family restaurant near the court attracts many visitors because of the green interiors. Manju Cafe near BGS school is also known for the ambiance of the urban forest where the cafe is located. Katte Malawadi is a Muslim-majority village of Hunsur Taluk with a beautiful mosque and a Tobacco auctioning office of the federal government.
