One of the best ways to make tea is with a teapot. But what makes the perfect teapot? Welcome back to beyond the bag. Today, I am going to let you in on the secret things to look for when picking out a teapot so you can find the teapot that is best for you. Stay tuned to the end for the most overlooked detail about teapots you will want to watch out for. Alright, let's get into it.
The first detail you should look at is the material the teapot is made out of. Teapots come in a lot of different materials from glass, ceramic, porcelain, and even steel. Having used these different styles, I have found glass to be far and away the best all-around material to go with. Glass won't taint the flavor of your tea, is reasonably durable with modern tempering, and brings a beautiful visual element to tea making if the glass is clear. Clear teapots are also easier to keep clean because you can see if you missed any spots. Also, I find being able to see the tea steeping, is extremely helpful in being able to judge when the tea is ready. All of this has brought me to the conclusion that glass is simply the way to go.
The next thing you are going to want to consider is infusers. Infusers are vessels to hold tea while steeping. Some teapots don't come with them, but they are a highly useful feature not to be missed. What you want is something that will do a good job of both allowing the water to circulate and restraining the leaves. This is a delicate balance to strike but the best application I have seen has been stainless steel mesh infusers. They can be slightly difficult to clean of tea leaves end up drying on them, but a minute or two in some warm water will free them easily. More solid infusers can work but do not steep nearly as evenly. This is why stainless steel mesh is the way to go.
The next thing to consider is size. This is going to come down to personal preference, but I have found the sweet spot to be 1 liter. This is big enough for multiple cups of tea, but can also do a smaller steeping when needed. If you mostly are making single cups at a time, there are miniature teapots made just for you. And if you are extremely social or simply enjoy drinking excessive amounts of tea there are also much larger teapots available. Feel it out and see what will work best for you. If you are feeling a bit indecisive go for a one liter and you'll be just fine.
So, what is the most overlooked detail when considering which teapot to get? This little thing is here at the end of the spout. This is an anti-drip spout. On the outset, this might seem somewhat minor, but a good spout is worth its weight in gold. This allows you to pour a neat, satisfying, spill-free cup of tea with ease. Water like all liquids gets more viscous when it is hot. This makes unintentional drips a common annoyance, but one easily remedied with the addition of an anti-drip spout which ensures none of your precious tea ends up on the table runner.
So let's recap when picking a teapot, the most important things to consider are the material, infuser design, size and don't forget about the anti-drip spout! In my experience, the best combination in terms of practicality and quality of results is a glass teapot with a stainless steel mesh infuser. I hope this helps you in your quest for the best teapot. Let me know what you go end up going with down in the comments below and I'll see you in the next one. Cheers!

I use a glass tea pot with a glass infuser and see no issue with the glass infuser since the herbs are completely surrounded by the water just as it is in the mesh infuser.
I chose all glass to avoid any and all possible reaction between the tea and the stainless steel mesh infuser giving me the purest possible tea.

I have a glass tea pot from „Trendglas Jena“, a German brand. And I have never seen such a good quality before. And it does never drip.

excellent rundown, thank you so much. Your channel should have more subscribers.
A couple people have asked for the specific model that you have shown. Amazon sells some that look quite similar. I'm looking for the one that might be *sturdy* in that style (with a glass, not mesh, infuser), and a *curved* spout.
Any specific recommendations or links? Thanks 😊

Amazing observations. Thank you. Have drank tea my entire life and never even considered a teapot with a drip-free spout. How do you know if the glass teapot you are buying will be drip-free? That is not usually mentioned in product descriptions.

I use steel - only because I have broken 2 glass tea pots and a nice ceramic pot. My wife makes fun of me, but I am total butter fingers when I wash the pots. Now that I have a dishwasher it may be worth looking at glass again.

Same, stainless steel all the way. You can still look at the tea when you pour a small amount. And I tend to drop my teapot a few times a year, lol.

i use a glass infuser for the infusing, and then afterwards, pour the tea with the larger herb pieces i got from the glass infuser into another teapot with a metal infuser. i make sure the tea goes through the metal infuser quickly and not too long, so that i avoid adding that annoying metallic taste.
