honestly, my favorite Veil of Maya song is Viscera; i just love the end riff and Lukas's vocals are just powerful and it doesn't hurt that the music video is pretty good too!
My favorite Veil song is probably It's Not Safe To Swim Today, that was like the first or second song I heard from them when I first found them and it was the springboard that launched me thru the rest of the catalog (2014 at the time, not long before Lukas joined so it was still only the old deathcore stuff for a couple months). Old school VoM will always have a special place in my heart. That's not to say Lukas hasn't done wonders with the band since he joined, either! I warmed up to him right away with Matriarch, and he's only continued to improve and impress ever since! Sure enough, this chorus is absolutely gorgeous! I'm super excited for the direction this album seems to be taking, although Red Fur is definitely a different feel from Synthwave Vegan and Godhead in itself. All three songs, plus that dope-ass [m]other album art, point to a synthwave aesthetic that I'm hyped about personally 🙌
My favorite Veil of Maya track is "With Passion and Power", when this album (Eclipse) was released, i was passing through a serious struggle with Cancer and that album fills me with energy. And that particular song saved me.
Also I love the cross of influences in [m]other's album art: a blend of a little of the old school deathcore, and the newish since Lukas joined. The baby in utero is a callback to Subject Zero, the swan song of the Brandon Butler era, and then the woman with many arms here is akin to the Matriarch cover model with similar Buddhist symbolism. Nice touch.
Outsider is also my favorite Veil song, with Viscera being a VERY close second, they're damn near tied... but for me that 12 second held scream at the very end of the song just kills it.
I started with the common man's collapse and [ID] nothing beats those 2 albums for me..but I really love the intro to this song..false idol is also a banger. Just love them still to this day, can't wait for this album.
