Iran wasn't afraid of starting WWIII because they have full backing of Russia. So to prevent the possibility of nuclear conflict, Israeli intelligence hunted down and killed almost every single key civilian nuclear scientist who was assisting Iran across the world (this included scientists in countries like America, UK, Sweden, etc). This stopped Iran's nuclear program long enough until Trump became president and ended the nuclear deal. What Israel did was absolutely illegal (which is why they deny it even though their agents were compromised, and later quietly gave medals to the surviving agents), but it did prevent the likely outcome of nuclear war in the middle east (most likely between Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia) that would have spread to Europe when Russia gets involved. Another example that fits well into the game was that when JFK was elected, he allowed a coup on the Diem government in Vietnam who was on our side and this achieved the goals of the North Vietnamese and made the South Vietnamese lose trust in us and turned Vietnam into a free for all. He also ordered the Bay of Pigs operation but then canceled it halfway (this was the mission we saw in the first Black Ops game) which caused tons of our allies to be caught without the logistics and air support they were promised and they all got killed. This scared Cuba and so they called the support of Russia who then put nuclear ICBM in Cuba which started the Cuban Missile Crisis that almost destroyed the world (this was referenced in the last mission of the first black ops game). As a result of this, it is widely believed that the Marines setup the assassination of JFK. They killed their own president, but in doing so they avoided the countless disasters that would have probably happened had he remained in charge (and this conspiracy theory is referenced in the final images of the game where you see Mason among the crowd of people at the site where JFK is killed)

You’re actually closer to the truth than u realize. Robert Redford did a movie with brad Pitt about being CIA, Redford character is a little laid back Adler where as brad Pitt is more woods/bell. Great movie called Spy Games

Cold War in general oozes style and Adler is the embodiment of it. By far one of the coolest and one of the most memorable characters ever put to screen even if only a small role in a single game.
He was very very refreshing for a cod game. Mason, woods, ghost, soap, price and etc are kinda washed up for me now. It was refreshing for me personally too see a new badass who isn't over played like some superhero. Heck, I found myself enjoying Adler's dialogue far more than "yeah were the cool guys because you know us" from Mason and woods in this game. I REALLY hope they make a campaign featuring Adler as the main protagonist with a voice. Guy just reeks "main character" vibes, in every scene he's in.
I definitely get more Price vibes from him. Woods is much closer to Soap than Adler. I could see Woods' rage and personality in Soap, and the same goes for Adler's mannerisms, expertise and background in Price.
Adler never becomes the villian though. The only villain is Bell, who basically is considered a traitor by the Russians. Adler has no obligations to Bell because Bell is the enemy.

I felt the short length made them pay more attention to the Campaign this time around. Look at Black Ops 3. They had far too much going on at once; and it was a complete cluster-fuck. Cold War benefits from having a lot of fan service and new additions squeezed into a short, easily doable in a day or two story. Plus, even with how short it is people will remember characters like Adler, Sims, Park and Lazar for a lot longer than Taylor, Hendricks and whoever the others were in Black Ops 3. You see what I mean? Quality over quantity.
Spoiler Alert . . . . . . . . . Some Gamerz hate Adler so much because betraying player character Bell. But think about it, Bell was one of the Perseus, he might done some bad thing or he could become next generation of Zakayef or Makarov if Arash didnt betray him. So most people say Russian ending was better but i think good ending aint that bad either. I kinda felt Adler's choice was right. That wasnt sacrifice, it was insurance for Protecting freedom from potential enemy
Exactly. Plus throughout the game we essentially saw that Bell was mentally unstable. The choices almost was a way for the game devs to show us how fine the line was for Bell to revert.

Considering this is now the official, cannon sequel to Black Ops that just gives me hope we'll see more of Adler in the future. Treyarch has always been great when it comes to making new characters. Hendricks, Salim, Shaw, Sarah Hall, Ravenov ect ect. Infinity Ward - for all their strengths - seems to play it safe too much. Sure, the new Gaz and Price are fantastic; but they never seem to add anyone new that we'll remember years later. Except for Farah. She's cool.

The thing is, the logical ending is Bell laying to Adler. Bell has no reason to betray his nation, and if he was manipulated into believing he was american, but breaks from his mental thing, he'd go back to Perseus
