Last I heard his family was scattered between hospitals and schools in Gaza, traumatized, but still alive, while he’s in the states recording. His best friend was killed in an Israeli bombing a few weeks ago though. He lost another, this in the 5th Israeli war on Gaza in his lifetime.
This is the clearest case of extraterritorial genocide since WWII. This is not a civil war. It is not a secessionist movement. It is not a struggle for colonial independence. This is war on an occupied nation.

Still Turkey never evoked a divine commandment to exterminate every man, woman, child, nursing babe, camel and donkey to exhort its troops to carry out a systematic annihilation in the 21st century and there is no other genocide by one state against a people outside its borders since the term was coined that notched it’s belt this quickly and this much in the systematic slaughter of civilians. More civilians died in East Timor, but over the course of 24 years. We are only counting the 46th day in this offensive and Gaza and already more than half the number of those who were directly killed in East Timor’s 24 years of genocide has been reached. At over 13,000 deaths in Gaza now we can expect that 18,000 milestone to quickly be eclipsed. And once disease, starvation and incidental death as a result of the conditions of war and occupation start to show we can expect the overall East Timorese civilian death milestone of 150,000 to be also quickly overtaken. It is a genocide such as that that is being carried out in 1/286th the span of time.
