Good evening! And thank you very much for helping us to over 8,900 subscribers - this evening we're back in the Lake District for a walk around one of the region's most popular and most historic towns: Ambleside! As a bonus fact, at around 8:36 when we walk past the Old Bark Mill, we then pass a sign reading 'Bridge Street'. The bridge in question is the one which crosses Stock Ghyll, but the street on which the bark mill was located was once known by a different name, 'Rattle Gill'. The 'rattle' referred to the noisy rattling that came from the mill, while the 'gill' referred to a 'ginnel', much like an alleyway!
Returning viewer here. I really enjoy your walks and most specially the information that I learn as I watch along the routes you take. Those uphill walks can definitely become a challenge but the beautiful scenery and interesting architecture will keep you going. Beautiful place!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're enjoyed the videos and the history of towns all over the UK! The hills can be quite an exercise but they also help to make every place a little more beautiful too :) Thank you again for watching and for you very kind words!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - Ambleside is a magnificent town full of captivating history, and I too absolutely love the older part of the town, especially when it's a little calmer too :)

Just got back from Ambleside today. Beautiful idyllic place, and the slate buildings really give it some character. I like how some of the more recent modern houses have kept fitting to the place with slate cladding.

That's the main reason I rarely go anywhere near Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere or Keswick. Too many people, too many cars, nowhere to park. And I was born and live in the Lake District.

Nice video mate. I need to check out the villages more instead of just being in the fells! Need to get a video done for my channel now. Cheers
Stunning little town. I remember the pub at the beginning was a restaurant in the first series of Kitchen Nightmares. Name escapes me.
'The Fulling Mill' I think.
It is a stunning little place as you mention! I didn't know that the pub starred in Kitchen Nightmares when it was a restaurant - interesting to hear :)
Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
It was called the Glass house
Your videos make me hungry to visit, but Covid. Soon, I hope.
It's certainly a place to have on your bucket list, along with all the other magnificent destinations around the UK :)
I hope you'll get the chance to visit soon too!
Very interesting to find a Methodist Church in The Lakes District. Your walks are unique. How about Glasgow?

The cars bounce along.
❤️🙏
Thank you so much!
4:21 that corner is so dangerous I be to scared to try to pass it
Ha ha yes I can imagine why! Certainly the hilly landscape of the Lake District wasn't designed for cars :)
@@LetsWalkUK yeah
Stone Town indeed.
Ha ha it really has that appearance! Ambleside is a gorgeous place and the local industry is shown wonderfully in the town's architecture :)
Thank you so much for watching - I do hope you enjoyed the video!
It's not "Lake" Windermere. It's just Windermere...... The "mere" part of Windermere actually means a large open expanse of water......
FORZA HORIZON 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha ha ha I didn't know of this connection when I visited Ambleside! Amazing to think that it made its way into such a massive game - goes to show just how picturesque it is :)
