This is one of my favorite performances of hers. This is just as her career was starting to take off again after years of working side jobs and contemplating giving it all up, and she wanted to lay it all out just in case it all disappeared again. So raw and emotional.
These are favorite renditions of these songs. The strings are so light & tender and add such an immense weight to the songs, the muted drums strong and ever present.
NPR's engineering for that space is always phenom, but they knocked it out of the park on this one.
And her vocals... perfectly crafted for the venue, as are seemingly all her performances.
