    Great battle, and a great table as always! Both forces are quite brittle but that especially matters for the attacker, and especially since the AT disparity was so significant. The fortunes of war!

      I think the US army will have a complete re-design before they fight this late game again.

    1st Panzer IV tank that got hit from a "long range" sherman rolled a 5 for armor save. This would tie the 76mm Sherman's AT 12. You forgot to add +1 to Panzer IV's front armor (FA) for being at long range. Therefore, at best, the Sherman can only bail the German tank with a successful firepower test.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage

      Ah well, its not like the game was not going the Germans way... we definitely make mistakes from time to time.

    This kind of situation is called in french " du tir au canard" (shooting at ducks) which mean shooting mercilessly at something without any retaliation possible.
    I never thought of a Sherman as a duck until here.

    Awesome glad to see the fight continues! Unless I am mistaken the "Cross here" means you move the leader then roll and see if they come with him, so the leader Sherman would have been out front alone. Not that it mattered in this game. Great report as always!

  • @ODST6262
    @ODST6262 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    105 Sherman are artillery but were used as tanks. In addition they should have smoke which is used on German heavies to force them to move or to block the Germans fields of Fire.
    A very tough defense. The US infantry did nothing whereas they could have infiltrated towards an objective or blocked the Panthers so the Sherman platoon on the right flank could have come in on the left.
    A very strangely fought game.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't play the game enough to have a solid grasp - so our games might look quite amateurish to experienced players.

    • @ODST6262
      @ODST6262 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ModellingforAdvantage Ah. OK. I have been playing since 1962 so your game did look a bit amateurish. However, the video is well done and you move along quickly. Another 50 years and you, too, will be experienced. I will definitely follow along for several of your videos.

  • @Edward-Plantagenet
    @Edward-Plantagenet ปีที่แล้ว +2

    At 16:13, unless I am mistaken, the two Pz IVs that were hit but not destroyed should have been bailed out. Pz IV front armour 11 vs AT 12 and you rolled 3 x 5s. If your tank is penetrated by the round your opponent rolls his Firepower to destroy OR bail you out, not just destroy or no effect. If you had rolled 6s, equalling the Sherman AT of 12, only then would the Firepower test be to bail or nothing.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, overlooked that - we definitely make mistakes sometimes.

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ModellingforAdvantage Great video though and good to see you doing FOW Battle reports, your unboxings are the best. That US force needs a re-think though, they never stood a chance against the Germans without TDs, Jumbos and / or Easy 8s and LOTS of smoke LOL. We’ve had great success using the L4 Grasshopper spotter too of late. With no air being taken the Germans didn’t need to invest in AA either, two Thunderbolts turning up could have easily ruined their day. Always a risk of the points being wasted if they don’t turn up but we normally roll average and get the air 50% of the time.

      @spamuraigranatabru1149 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Statistically from people whom do archive dives like 'Military History Visualized' and 'The_Chieftain', at least for Shermans it was not very high, with towed guns, mines and infantry weapons being the much larger ratio for the surprisingly small casualties the US armoured forces suffered. Shermans just didn't perform anyway near bad, dispite popular depictions, as war turned out to be far more complicated then just "it looks like a tiger II should easily do lots of damage"
      For T-34s, I dunno.

    Cracking battle report as always Kaiser! It’s so weird seeing so many German units in an army! 😂

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it is a great list to build a force from. You did not get to see it much in that report, but it is really brittle - that last tank in a unit will never stand on a 5+, and you would be mad to try and blitz or anything like that.

    • @PanzerManBran
      @PanzerManBran ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would have thought mikes 105s would have been part of the formation too?
      With my Berlin german I’m risking it with the very brittle Berlin battle group running 1 unit of SS, 1 unit of volksturm and a unit of Hitler youth. With a sprinkle of armour of course

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PanzerManBran Will be interesting to hear how you get on with that. I worry So much infantry really slows a game down, but if it is all aggressive they will be a lot less rugged I guess.

    • @PanzerManBran
      @PanzerManBran ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModellingforAdvantage Yeah it’s a risky formation, I’ll probably just dig the infantry in on objectives and buildings with the fausts. I predominantly play SS or fallschirmjagers with Germans and I don’t believe there’s any SS formations in the book

    When the Jagdtiger fired in Germany turn 1 the hit has to go on a “live” tank before one that’s bailed out.
