An important point of Sudden Betrayal: actually causes the attacking creature to take damage from the creature it attacks. For situations where your opponent has exactly two creatures, it's a lot better.
Generally the minion that attacks the other minion will have more then 2 damage so it wouldn't mess you up unless you needed to desperately combo a card for some reason
Difference between Betrayal and the Sudden variant is that Sudden Betrayal can kill the proc target as well as the adjacent minion if the stats line up right. It's pretty much a better Misdirection, not that Misdirection is even remotely viable in the first place.

The restriction on beast for Kathrena's recruit is amazing because you can have lower cost minions that are not beasts and not worry about them worsening your recruit! Really nice. It also means you have to tailor your deck to her.
Recruiting is basically like summoning. So i think one of the mechanics they should make next is "summony", like battlecry but it activates only when that minion is summoned. Since you don't summon minions very often and all the summon effects are mostly random, they could make the stats for the card average with a really strong effect for being summoned.
Also, you could cheat Kathrena into agro deck. Run non-beast early game minions, cloacked huntress, secrets, leeroy and kathrena with 2x charged devilsaurs and king krush for finishers.
In all card reviews no1 seems to notice that branching paths (when they compare it to savage roar), that the +attack is permanent, not "this turn", so I think the +1 mana is ok, (if you take the +attack twice) + the flexibility will make this card good
That Hunter Legendary might be way to broken, you could build a Hunter deck with Elementals and Pirates with 2 mana prince and run 2 Savannah Highmane, 2 Charged Devilsaur, and a King Krush, so for 8 mana you summon a 7/7 that summons a 7/6 Highmane, or a 8/8 Devilsaur with charge, or a 9/9 King Krush with charge on battle cry and death + what ever other good beast that might be added.
Duskbreaker is somewhere between EE and Auchenai Circle. It does take two cards for the combo, but you only have to play one to make it work. It gives you a 3/3 instead of a 3/1. I don't think it's THAT far ahead of tools already available to the class, plus it can only work in an archetype that currently doesn't work, and won't work without a way to deal with Jades. I think it'll be good post rotation, but it needs so much to become good in this expansion. Remains to be seen if it will get what it needs.

Evolve, Devolve, Storm, Volcano, forked lightning, bloodlust, feral spirit, maelstrom portal, far sight, finders keepers, are all the non-targeted shaman spells that are definitely usable. There are few nontargeted spells that aren't garbage like totemic might but aren't especially good. Call in the finishers, Ice fishing, and spirit echo are good if you're playing a deck that works well. The targeted spells are almost only damage-dealing spells, which we know aren't too bad when targeted randomly. As of now, I don't think runespear is particularly good. If Blizzard does change it so that you are not overloaded, runespear is very good.
it's 8 mana, 8 mana cards really need some kind of good and immediate effect to be worth playing. That's why the lich king with the taunt and the card generation is played + why both rags were so good for a long time. Immediate value. You would need to build a deck around runespear for it to be good, with all those murloc specific cards and minion based cards. There's also a decent chance that the only spells you get are one that just don't have any real effect on the current board as shaman, imagine picking between frost shock, forked lightning and lightning storm with a full board. If you have a board then it's likely bad, if the enemy has a board then hurray it's likely good, if the enemy doesn't give a shit about their minions then it doesn't matter most of the time. You also have to take into account that this is on turn 8 that it's coming out minimum.
Actually thats not exactly true. When Yogg Saron casts overload-spells, it will actually overload you. That has been changed with the Yogg-Nerf I guess, so the change was a little bit out of sight. I don´t know how it works with tortolian primalist though, which probably is a better comparison.
Even with Totollan Primalist and Servant of Yogg-Saron overload is applied to the player. The rules their targeting effects are the same as Yogg's. Though I'm pretty sure I've only ever seen Totollan Primalist in Rogue (Firebat had it in a deck doctor episode) since there are a lot of expensive rogue spells that don't need to target (or can only target enemies) such as; sprint, thistle tea, vanish, and assassinate, while other decent spells to get with it include mimic pod, roll the bones, fan of knives, and sap. Shaman spells are generally a lot worse in that you're not saving as much mana since the overload is being passed onto you, and most of them can target enemy or friendly minions.

Are three 5/5s for 7 mana really good enough to be a win condition? I guess onto an empty board it would be strong, but the most popular decks at the moment have good aoe to interrupt the beatdown.
exactly, this isn't going to fit into highlander, and to a lesser extend big priest, so those decks are not getting buffed at all by this card, midrange priest decks (which are almost always dragon priests) are benefiting from this card though.

Only one spell is being played so I don't think that the jade upgrade Item will upgrade, I could be wrong but I think the current hearthstone sequencing would place it as 12 armor gained at once and there would be one upgrade applied since the upgrade itself would have to be it's own line of checks on your current hero state and there's one sequence being completed when a singular card is played, but that's literally just a hypothesis I don't have any evidence from the new set who knows

I think a new type of Warrior is going to emerge that's similar to Big Priest. Control early game with weapons and aoe spells, Gather Your Party into Y'Shaarj on turn six, Mithril Spell Stone to round out turn seven or so until you can play your other huge minions.
Hey Trump, while I agree that ancient of lore used to be fairly overpowered, I'm pretty sure they also changed it to draw one card so that it wouldn't really stupid when paired with fandral staghelm. Just a thought!
If Feral Gibberer kept the buffs it would probably have been a staple card in Aggro Tokken druid, it's still possibly decent because you can have an "infinite" generation of threats
@ Mithril Spell stone: imo, if UI has taught us anything, Keeping a good enough card that you’d definitely play on its turn is a considered strat if the meta is slow enough.

i like the shaman weapon.. i would have to play around with it but there are a lot of great spells you could get.. and untargeted spells are what you want most since thats most "stable".
Trump card is, "ultra infestation" which will be, recruit 5 minions, discover 5 legendarys, your hero gains 5 health, give 5 health to all your minions, summon 5 ben brodes, your opponent discards 5 cards for each ben brode summoned. Will craft 2 golds..
Kathrena Winterwisp is a King Crush and Swamp King Enabler. unless of course you draw one of those cards, but that remedied by run 2 Highmanes(which every hunter deck already does). at best she's a 8 mana 6/6, summon a 8/8 with charge, Deathrattle summon a 9/9 that attacks a minion when summoned, you Can play her turn 10 for a 10 damage face combo with hero power a solid finisher. At worse she's a 8 mana 6/6 summon a 6/5 with deathrattle summon 2 2/2s, with a deathrattle summon a 6/5 with deathrattle summon 2 2/2s. both of those options are better than CotW pre-nerf. Do people not see the insane value?
The real problem is : how do you survive the early game without beasts? Hunter will never truly be control, but heavy midrange at best and this card is much more about generating massive tempo that anything else. Now give me a good early drop that is not a beast or a board clear and i'm sold a hundred times, but so far, if you want to play this deck, it looks like you'll have to run the neutral package along with maybe some secrets, and that's it. But will the neutral package generate enough tempo to be somewhat even on board pre-8 against anything else than control? As a big fan of control hunter, I'll be experimenting for sure. Maybe we can squeeze some play dead/dino egg shenanigans or just play a few beasts to get at least houndmaster but we'll have to see.
Traps have always been good at stalling. but dont forget all the Summon beast cards like Animal Compainion, Unleash the Hounds, several traps and Deathstalker. I have a Golden King Crush I opened in a pack years ago, GIVE THIS TO ME MAN!
I don't feel it's fair to simply say branching path won't be used and it worse then savage roar. If aggro decks run permanent buffs, then this will see some play. It isn't an 'until end of turn', it's a permanent buff.
So if we were looking at wild, what is dragon priest lacking now? He has early game, mid game, late game, card generation through operative and librarian, board clear, single target removal, sustain, burst if you count the damage on dragons. Blizzard really doesn't care about people who prefer wild instead of 3 deck meta standard

All of the spellstones have two upgrades. Lesser Xstone is base, Xstone is 1 upgrade, Greater Xstone is two upgrades. So the druid one is 1 mana 2 damage, 1 mana 4 damage, 1 mana 6 damage.
Kathrena Winterwisp AKA BIG HUNTER ENABLER! Feral Gibberer perfect for handbuffadin. Finally a card that can make buffing consistent. The new Paladin Spell, is meh, however one shouldn't discredit taunt. Specially against aggro.
Branching paths seems ok, I don't know if it would see any play but it looks decent. I don't like katherna, you literally can not out her in a beast deck, 8 mana ally cat says hello. You would have to be playing some type of control Hunter (which I doubt will ever happen at this point) With only very high costed beasts which gets rid of almost all of hunters minions
That One Mercy Main let us assume the worst case scenario. She pulls alley cat and alley cat. She is thinning your deck towards higher end cards in the late game and is providing at minimum 8/8 worth of stats. She might be a bit slow, but this card would be nuts if they are printing a lot of control hunter cards in this set.
Could be decent in more late game orientated mid range maybe? Neat gimmick with swamp King or king krush and a nice way to get out a free Savannah highmane I suppose
James Richardson worst case scenario you just played a 7/7 on turn 8, that's VERY bad. It needs to have a immediate effect on the board which this card can't provide, there's like two cards I can think of that's good with this (savanna highmane and that one t rex) everything else is mediocre at best. Call of the wild gives you a charger, a buffer and a taunt for one more, that's way more consistent than this
no one has mentioned Hemet Jungle Hunter yet (yeah remember that card?) where you can run the early beast package of allycats, bats, razormaws, kindly grandmothers, hyenas and bearshark, then blast them away with hemet to garuntee the big boys. Tbh hemet synergizes fantastically with most recruit cards.
Your point? Shadowreaper on his own is NOT op. Why else do you think Dirty Rat Raza into concede is a thing? Ultimate Infestation, on the other hand, is _on its own_ an absurdly overpowered card. Not a priest card.
I don't think the shaman weapon is that bad. Think of their spells. Lightning storm needs no targets, forked lightning the same, the two 2-3 taunt wolves same, maelstorm portal same, in wild you can get the "deal 5-6 to everything" spell. There's plenty of no risk picks there and you can always go risky and pick hex if you're desperate or lava burst or the big joust heal in wild and hope it hits your face.
Sudden betrayal says “attacks” as opposed to “deal damage to” meaning that it’s also a noble sacrifice, but with your opponent’s minions. I feel like trump misses this, and that probably makes it better than betrayal (a low bar indeed).
I wonder if Quest Hunter would be viable now just by using the Gibberer and Fire Flies. Technically, you wouldn't need any more 1 mana minions, but then you've also got Alley Cat, so there ya go. Just for funsies, here's an idea: The Marsh Queen Quest Feral Gibberer x2 Fire Fly x2 Alley Cat x2 prince keleseth Deathstalker Rexxar Tol'vir Warden x2 non-2 mana card draw cards of your choice (Stitched Tracker may be nice. :o ) some removal cards of your choice and non-2 mana taunt minions of your choice If enough room, maybe have Kathrena in there with the Tundra Rhino and Savannah Highmane. No idea if it'd be good, but it could be really fun at least. :3
The Quest Hunter reward just isn't good enough. The 3/2's die to AoE, and there is the awkward problem that if the cards in your deck are really good, you don't want to spend Mana shuffling through all the broodlings (err, that might be wrong universe lol).
I would say more like tier 4 if not just a fringe deck, but that's still not bad. People have been known to make it to legend with tier 4 decks just that much harder than tier 1 and 2 decks. Also worth noting that a deck can be lower tier due to lower win rate/popularity in the Hearthstone community at large, but make great tournament or high legend decks still.
That's where prince Keleseth shines. Unlike Rogue, or any other class that wants to play him as soon as possible for maximum value, you've got to wait until after you play Carnassa. Now you've got 1 mana 4/3's that draw cards as well as making everything left in your deck a little bit better.
Deathrattle Recruiting is actually really interesting, since it's still a strong Deathrattle, but it's probably shit for stuff like N'Zoth and super-duper-late-game swings where you get that magical win con off of your Deathrattle. It doesn't GENERATE a card, which makes Kathrana kind of balanced, but that probably also means she won't see a lot of play maybe.
It depends on the meta. If you're facing keleseth rogue, you'll never see it proc. But since the 6-star priest card was revealed, the meta might be slowed A LOT. That kind of priest might not care to tech against 1 mana 1/1 so in that case you might get the procs off. If the meta is slower, it might replace the freezing elemental or the murloc that makes an ooze with taunt in the deck. But honestly, I don't see it happen.
I don't think because it's onl 1 health. Against 3 classes out of 9 it gets destroyed without a proc. Against aggro it doesn't stick to the board. If it gets buffed, I don't believe it comes back in hand as a copy of it buffed but rather as a 1/1. I'd pick fire fly everytime over it. I wish it was 1/2 instead because now it would maybe work. As of now, I highly doubt it.

One of my gripes with the card is that it can disable Backstab, messing you up.
That's just a problem with Backstab in general. Any Rogue card that does damage messes up Backstab (Fan of Knives, Shiv, etc).

Hey Trump, while I agree that ancient of lore used to be fairly overpowered, I'm pretty sure they also changed it to draw one card so that it wouldn't really stupid when paired with fandral staghelm. Just a thought!
If Feral Gibberer kept the buffs it would probably have been a staple card in Aggro Tokken druid, it's still possibly decent because you can have an "infinite" generation of threats

@ Mithril Spell stone: imo, if UI has taught us anything, Keeping a good enough card that you’d definitely play on its turn is a considered strat if the meta is slow enough.
the feral gibberer maybe alright if u play it turn 1, attack like 2 maybe 3 times and then reduce the cost of mountain giant to be played on like turn 4

Kathrena with King Crush, Swamp king dred, highmanes, ect. If they don't print anything to help hunters draw/ keep them alive longer than you can say good bye to that idea. INC more midrange 3 drop cards.

i like the shaman weapon.. i would have to play around with it but there are a lot of great spells you could get.. and untargeted spells are what you want most since thats most "stable".

Trump card is, "ultra infestation" which will be, recruit 5 minions, discover 5 legendarys, your hero gains 5 health, give 5 health to all your minions, summon 5 ben brodes, your opponent discards 5 cards for each ben brode summoned. Will craft 2 golds..
level up is suuuper good in wild. taunt on your 3/3s basically hard shuts down aggro which is like 50% of that meta game.
They need to give Warriors a replacement for fiery war axe or a nice two drop this expansion.

Kathrena Winterwisp is a King Crush and Swamp King Enabler. unless of course you draw one of those cards, but that remedied by run 2 Highmanes(which every hunter deck already does). at best she's a 8 mana 6/6, summon a 8/8 with charge, Deathrattle summon a 9/9 that attacks a minion when summoned, you Can play her turn 10 for a 10 damage face combo with hero power a solid finisher. At worse she's a 8 mana 6/6 summon a 6/5 with deathrattle summon 2 2/2s, with a deathrattle summon a 6/5 with deathrattle summon 2 2/2s. both of those options are better than CotW pre-nerf. Do people not see the insane value?
The real problem is : how do you survive the early game without beasts? Hunter will never truly be control, but heavy midrange at best and this card is much more about generating massive tempo that anything else. Now give me a good early drop that is not a beast or a board clear and i'm sold a hundred times, but so far, if you want to play this deck, it looks like you'll have to run the neutral package along with maybe some secrets, and that's it. But will the neutral package generate enough tempo to be somewhat even on board pre-8 against anything else than control? As a big fan of control hunter, I'll be experimenting for sure. Maybe we can squeeze some play dead/dino egg shenanigans or just play a few beasts to get at least houndmaster but we'll have to see.
Traps have always been good at stalling. but dont forget all the Summon beast cards like Animal Compainion, Unleash the Hounds, several traps and Deathstalker. I have a Golden King Crush I opened in a pack years ago, GIVE THIS TO ME MAN!

I don't feel it's fair to simply say branching path won't be used and it worse then savage roar. If aggro decks run permanent buffs, then this will see some play. It isn't an 'until end of turn', it's a permanent buff.
So if we were looking at wild, what is dragon priest lacking now? He has early game, mid game, late game, card generation through operative and librarian, board clear, single target removal, sustain, burst if you count the damage on dragons. Blizzard really doesn't care about people who prefer wild instead of 3 deck meta standard

All of the spellstones have two upgrades. Lesser Xstone is base, Xstone is 1 upgrade, Greater Xstone is two upgrades. So the druid one is 1 mana 2 damage, 1 mana 4 damage, 1 mana 6 damage.

I don't like katherna, you literally can not out her in a beast deck, 8 mana ally cat says hello. You would have to be playing some type of control Hunter (which I doubt will ever happen at this point) With only very high costed beasts which gets rid of almost all of hunters minions
That One Mercy Main let us assume the worst case scenario. She pulls alley cat and alley cat. She is thinning your deck towards higher end cards in the late game and is providing at minimum 8/8 worth of stats. She might be a bit slow, but this card would be nuts if they are printing a lot of control hunter cards in this set.

James Richardson worst case scenario you just played a 7/7 on turn 8, that's VERY bad. It needs to have a immediate effect on the board which this card can't provide, there's like two cards I can think of that's good with this (savanna highmane and that one t rex) everything else is mediocre at best. Call of the wild gives you a charger, a buffer and a taunt for one more, that's way more consistent than this
no one has mentioned Hemet Jungle Hunter yet (yeah remember that card?) where you can run the early beast package of allycats, bats, razormaws, kindly grandmothers, hyenas and bearshark, then blast them away with hemet to garuntee the big boys. Tbh hemet synergizes fantastically with most recruit cards.

I don't think the shaman weapon is that bad. Think of their spells. Lightning storm needs no targets, forked lightning the same, the two 2-3 taunt wolves same, maelstorm portal same, in wild you can get the "deal 5-6 to everything" spell. There's plenty of no risk picks there and you can always go risky and pick hex if you're desperate or lava burst or the big joust heal in wild and hope it hits your face.
Sudden betrayal says “attacks” as opposed to “deal damage to” meaning that it’s also a noble sacrifice, but with your opponent’s minions. I feel like trump misses this, and that probably makes it better than betrayal (a low bar indeed).

The Quest Hunter reward just isn't good enough. The 3/2's die to AoE, and there is the awkward problem that if the cards in your deck are really good, you don't want to spend Mana shuffling through all the broodlings (err, that might be wrong universe lol).
I would say more like tier 4 if not just a fringe deck, but that's still not bad. People have been known to make it to legend with tier 4 decks just that much harder than tier 1 and 2 decks. Also worth noting that a deck can be lower tier due to lower win rate/popularity in the Hearthstone community at large, but make great tournament or high legend decks still.
That's where prince Keleseth shines. Unlike Rogue, or any other class that wants to play him as soon as possible for maximum value, you've got to wait until after you play Carnassa. Now you've got 1 mana 4/3's that draw cards as well as making everything left in your deck a little bit better.
Feral Gibberer + Normal Buff Paladin
Deathrattle Recruiting is actually really interesting, since it's still a strong Deathrattle, but it's probably shit for stuff like N'Zoth and super-duper-late-game swings where you get that magical win con off of your Deathrattle. It doesn't GENERATE a card, which makes Kathrana kind of balanced, but that probably also means she won't see a lot of play maybe.

It depends on the meta. If you're facing keleseth rogue, you'll never see it proc. But since the 6-star priest card was revealed, the meta might be slowed A LOT. That kind of priest might not care to tech against 1 mana 1/1 so in that case you might get the procs off. If the meta is slower, it might replace the freezing elemental or the murloc that makes an ooze with taunt in the deck. But honestly, I don't see it happen.

Feral gibberer in Buffadin could be neat.
I don't think because it's onl 1 health. Against 3 classes out of 9 it gets destroyed without a proc. Against aggro it doesn't stick to the board. If it gets buffed, I don't believe it comes back in hand as a copy of it buffed but rather as a 1/1. I'd pick fire fly everytime over it. I wish it was 1/2 instead because now it would maybe work. As of now, I highly doubt it.
