I can see it now: You're watching one of those Hearthstone highlight videos, and then you watch someone play a wisp or the penguin on turn ten, then use Unstable Evolution on it and they get this: Weasel Tunneler, Grimstreet Informant, Blubber Barron, Wicked Skeleton, Furbolg Mossbringer, Big-time Racketeer, and then Lynessa Sunsorrow.

This card is easier to evaluate if you think of it as "Spend 3 mana, 1 health, and 2 armor to draw and play one and a half cobra shots, and you also summon what's basically a 2/1 Gadgetzan Auctioneer that triggers off weapons instead of spells, which has been merged zombeast style with a 4/3 Yogg Saron that only casts Warlock spells with costs that are terms within the Zeckendorf decomposition of your current health value squared."
Interesting tidbit: Deck of Wonders is an equipment card from a game called Dream Quest, which was made by Peter Whalen himself! The card in that game gives you one random card per turn out of all available cards in the game, so its as random as the mage spell that references it!

Why did the Leyline Manipulator have to be 4 drop, which is like the most overcrowded mana cost for elemental mage between steam surger, water elemental, stoneshaper, fireball, and polymorph.
Not everyone in hearthstone netdecks. The only part of hearthstone where that's true is like rank 5 to legend on standard ladder. Yes, that section of ladder is like 99.9% netdecks. But you see a lot more homemade decks either in wild or at other ranks.
Evasion: Just stall. When you play that secret, your goal is not to clear the board next turn, your goal is to kill the other player next turn. In the case of mill, you use the knife that prevents damage before you start the mill turn. I think it can work.
It's interesting how pretty much every legendary minion that's tilted towards control has 4 attack. It's almost like shadow words are ridiculously OP. Huh......
i think fulborg is meant for metas when giving minions to opponents is a thing, i think they will start to include more "negativ" minions as they print betray and things like the chest in the game then a neutral transform card could see play
Leyline Manipulator might just be good enough without specific combos in mind if you have enough effects that create cards. It's still an elemental yeti and 2 discounts pays for itself immediately. Many create card effects are random or otherwise uncontrolled making it less useful for combos compared to other cost-reducers, but just having cheaper random spells can be great. Deck of wonders is going to be fun. It won't be put in serious decks, but there are playable cards that give random mage spells.

Furlborg to be honest is actually a quite good arena card, you can value trade a minion and "heal" it back to a 6/6, also it combos well with a number of cards, like the 5/6 that destroys your board, you can trade and morph it and avoiding its deathrattle, with priest also you can potion an enemies 2 attack minion and transforming it in a free 6/6.
I came up the legendary weapon for warrior a long time ago that can solve as single tarvet removal. Thorn Shield 5 mana 2 attack 8 durability Can't attack, deal the attack to a enemy attacking your face, if it dies you don't take the damage.
overstated the combo draw 2 cards value, since its combo you need to play something else so its not just 1 more mana for a 3/2 unless you have the coin, which you cant count on.
Evasion is amazing. Going to craft two golden ones. I played a turbo fog mill deck in Magic the Gathering and Evasion is the exact card I need to do the same thing in Hearthstone.
The values that comes to mind with mossbinder for me are in arena for use on a damaged minion or combined with rattling rascal. A turn nine play admittedly but for nine mana you get a 5/5, a 6/6, and a 1/1. Probably too slow for ranked but yeah a fun idea.
Card idea: Crystalline Flask, rogue spell: X mana, restore X health *combo:* restore X extra health for every card played this turn. Not sure what would be a good balance, so i left out numbers, but would you guys think this would be a good way to implement healing for rogues?
Drywhisker + Reckless Flurry might replace sleep with the fishes and if warrior gets a weapon to compete with Jade/Shotgun Priest we might actually see some control warrior action again. Well maybe just me dreaming ^^
Elven Minstrel - Per se, it's just not true that you only pay 1 mana more ... the draw only happens when you combo. Which - in most cases - means you'll have to invest an additional card and X mana (casting cost of said additional card). That said, Elven Minstrel is a good card. THAT said, Tempo Rogue will play Fal'dorei Strider over it every time.
i was thinking maybe use the furbolg mossbinder with frost lich.. play it on a random minion making it a 6/6 life steal then ping the 1/1 for a water elemental... also you could use it in priest with potion of madness.. idk.. there might be some ways to use it.
On furbolg, should you reconsider because of the fact that it has a built in silence effect for creatures with negative deathrattles such as boom o clock? I'm not sure how many negative deathrattles there are but it has a few combos at least. Certainly useful with totems and evolve.
I thought about this, the problem is that most bad deathrattles come with big stats, like hoarder dragon, so you're basically paying 5mana for a 1/1 spellbreaker. if you can land it on boom o clock it's nice, but you're not gonna play a bad card and a terrible card for a "nice" combo, especially since the boomoclock often won't live 1 turn so you won't be able to transform it.
Okay, but consider. What if Quest Mage took out a lot of draw and replaced it with tempo elementals and you ran two Simulacrum and a Molten over the other way around. You throw in Frost Lich Jaina with the Babbling Books and 2 mana elementals to trigger hero power while giving cards and now Quest Mage has about 3+ ways to win it did not have before. (Tempo, Value, and Leyline Combo without using quest.) It does come at a consistency cost, but the theory is that all the new tempo makes it easier to draw out the game and thus you have more time to get to combo. And you have more ways to win than ever before so the deck overall wins more.
Why even play a combo deck then? Combo cards will hurt your tempo match ups and removing your cycle means you won't be able to kill your opponent because they out value you.
lherrebout I have tested parts of the deck out. My conclusion: Drawing Combo can hurt your tempo matchups, but most of the combo cards are playable in that case. The other worry... Doesn't feel legitimate. Your tempo side in theory keeps you alive better than cycling does and means less clunky hands. Quest Mage is perhaps beyond critical mass of draw right now.
Blake Breaker I mean, yeah, running an otk in whatever elemental mage is does seem like it would improve your match-ups with druid, though if you're targeting control decks it's probably better to just play regular quest mage.
First rule of deckbuilding in any card game that inexperienced players always ignore: Do not clump together multiple themes in one deck. Pick one theme, then use the best possible cards to complement that theme so that you can do what your deck is supposed to do most of the time. Trying to round OTK decks out with midgame minions and mediocre threats is just making the combo part less consistent.
You could also use simulacrum on Antonidas and then drop 2x Leyla Manipulator... Antonidas(3) + SA(2) + SA(2) +Molten(2) + Molten(1) - infinite fireballs. But this can be challenging to do, you need to have hand free from all minions cheaper than Toni, including Leyla...
lets be honest Unstable Evolution was added for a few reasons, obviously control, but mostly for the outcry of how many people get pissed off getting a doomsayer on an evolve. This card alone would give the control necessary to avoid those situations.
I really really like the new Rogue secrets and I wish they were inducted into the Basic/Classic set in some way. Unlike other classes which have much more "fire and forget" secrets, these Rogue secrets look like they require much more consideration and timing to make good use of, and I particularly like the mind games created by Sudden Betrayal and Evasion. Evasion encourages the enemy to swing with their biggest minion first to get the most face damage before you turn immune, but Sudden Betrayal encourages them to use a weak minion to minimize the damage to their board. Combined the two give Rogue a really sturdy defense that might even persist for multiple turns, without feeling quite as hopeless as unkillable Ice Block + Ice Barrier mages. My only problem is that the Rogue class in general is kind of fucked, since their only top tier deck right just relies on how well they can abuse Keleseth. Considering the 2-mana secrets directly anti-synergize with Kelly, I have a bad feeling that they'll be doomed to be good cards that never see play simply because Keleseth Rogue is better, and since they're both in Year of the Mammoth, we won't even be able to see what Rogue-Minus-Keleseth looks like unless Shadowstep gets sent to the Hall of Fame or something (which honestly, it probably will be).
This whole expansion is pretty much fun cards. Very few are viable, but if you never played the game to get the best rankings, you'll probably like where this expansion is going.
Elven minstel is OP, not only does it draw 2 cards, it also guarantees it to be minions... more chance at prince and if already played, 2 guaranteed buffed minions
Not sure if mechanics work like this but couldn't the frbolg a minion you just potioneded/shadowed of madness? Then it'd be yours permanently? Like don't get me wrong it's not a combo worth running but I'm thinking for arena runs it's one of those tempo things that could actually be quite nice.
Why even make Mossbinger's minion an elemental if it doesn't even count as a summon? Why not make it target enemy minions as a powerful tech card? Why is it a 1/1? Why is it 6 mana? What did they want people to pull off with this card? So many more questions...
Lasse Andersen tome is way better because of the potential of playing 3 or 4 girls and tome in the same turn, and play those discounted spells to count for ur unfinished quest, and then win
Trump, I'm disappointed you didn't see that Furbolg is also another minor nerf to Firelands (along with evolve)... that's the first thing I think of when I see a bad 5-drop now.
Trade then Furbolg so it acts like a heal? Potion of madness + Furbolg? Shadow Madness + Furbolg? Token deck + Furbolg? Use it on a weak battlecry minion?
The problem with that is, that you jump through extra hoops just for a "fair" effect to happen, while "fair" effects usually aren't good enough if they require no setup at all. Setup-cost is a real thing and unless you get rewarded big time it is in most cases too steep.
Wisp + Furbolg mosbinder ... op value i guess WAIT A SECOND, how much mana does the transformed minion cost tho ? you know the 6/6 golem because if it is a lot of mana then you can literally play the combo i just wrote AND then you evolve giving you 2 high cost minions it still sucks tho
I wonder how different the opinions would be if Trump looked at them under the lens of being comparable to cards that are rotating out in the next standard year. Shamans are only 2 expansions away from losing Evolve and Doppelgangster, Warriors from losing Sleep with the Fishes, etc.
im really not sure why isnt Ultimate infestation a Legendary card, i mean its powerful as hell and if you could only limit druid to use only 1 of it then i guess that would kinda help also its the most powerful spell in the game so i think it deserves to be a legendary
Evasion is literally rogue ice block. So when would you want evasion? In exactly the same situation you want ice block. When you need one turn to set up a ten mana combo. Is there a strong ten mana combo in rogue? Will there be? no idea. But you can always evasion, into malygos, sinister strike, prep evis, prep evis, coin sinister strike or some other nonsense.
Obviously, but that's the only case in which it doesn't work in a virtually identical fashion. My point was, you would use it in the same kind of deck.
you could use a coin to get elven minstrel and then next turn play those two minions if they're two cost... so perhaps for quest rogue that has cheaper minions... Like the rogue alternative to that hunter 5 cost that pulls two 1's
... maybe mossbinder would become good if there were cards that required elementals on the field rather than only elementals that require having been played the turn before. the only relevant thing to that thought would probably be jainas lifesteal or something.... the 4 cost elementals that are kinda sturdy could attack before being morphed to 6/6 also...
Furbolg Mossbinder actually looks to be a strong Turn 5 play in Shaman and Paladin decks as their hero power generates cheap targets for Mossbinder and creates a dual threat leading into turn 6, dopple-evolve for the Shaman (or even Unstable Evolve multiple times) and Spikeridge/Tarim for Paladin. Both classes have been lacking strong Turn 5 plays that leading into their strong turn 6 and beyond plays. Also Mossbinder Memes in the form of Potion of Madness into Mossbinder, turn those enemy cards into 6/6s.
i feel like next expansion everyone is forced to run weapon removal... so basicly your deck will have 27 slots from now on, 1 for harrison, and 2 for your class's version of polymorph...
Now instead of flipping a coin to decide things, we can have a mirror match between mages each with 2 deck of wonders, 2 book, 2 cabalist's tome, 2 shimmering tempest, 2 servant of yogg, yogg-saron, tinkmaster and flame leviathan.
Evasion is good when you want to dodge any amount of damage, not just lethal, so it could work in Mill Rogue. Rogues add healing and taunt in just to make it to the end game, why not this? They need to buff Unidentified Shield, if they want it to see play. Just make it 5 mana and call it a day.

So far i've seen very few cards this expansion that will be played pre-rotation..
4 out of 8 rogue cards, 2 or 3 out of 7 priest cards, 4 out of 8 warlock cards...

You throw in Frost Lich Jaina with the Babbling Books and 2 mana elementals to trigger hero power while giving cards and now Quest Mage has about 3+ ways to win it did not have before. (Tempo, Value, and Leyline Combo without using quest.) It does come at a consistency cost, but the theory is that all the new tempo makes it easier to draw out the game and thus you have more time to get to combo. And you have more ways to win than ever before so the deck overall wins more.

Why even play a combo deck then? Combo cards will hurt your tempo match ups and removing your cycle means you won't be able to kill your opponent because they out value you.
lherrebout I have tested parts of the deck out. My conclusion: Drawing Combo can hurt your tempo matchups, but most of the combo cards are playable in that case. The other worry... Doesn't feel legitimate. Your tempo side in theory keeps you alive better than cycling does and means less clunky hands. Quest Mage is perhaps beyond critical mass of draw right now.
Blake Breaker I mean, yeah, running an otk in whatever elemental mage is does seem like it would improve your match-ups with druid, though if you're targeting control decks it's probably better to just play regular quest mage.
First rule of deckbuilding in any card game that inexperienced players always ignore: Do not clump together multiple themes in one deck. Pick one theme, then use the best possible cards to complement that theme so that you can do what your deck is supposed to do most of the time. Trying to round OTK decks out with midgame minions and mediocre threats is just making the combo part less consistent.
about Geoscultpor yip, you can play bring it on then geo on turn 10 and get a 4/8 and a 10 drop.
You could also use simulacrum on Antonidas and then drop 2x Leyla Manipulator... Antonidas(3) + SA(2) + SA(2) +Molten(2) + Molten(1) - infinite fireballs. But this can be challenging to do, you need to have hand free from all minions cheaper than Toni, including Leyla...
Unidentified looks like 20 armor gain to me. 2 cards. 6 mana each. 20 armor total. Am I wrong?

lets be honest Unstable Evolution was added for a few reasons, obviously control, but mostly for the outcry of how many people get pissed off getting a doomsayer on an evolve. This card alone would give the control necessary to avoid those situations.

I really really like the new Rogue secrets and I wish they were inducted into the Basic/Classic set in some way. Unlike other classes which have much more "fire and forget" secrets, these Rogue secrets look like they require much more consideration and timing to make good use of, and I particularly like the mind games created by Sudden Betrayal and Evasion. Evasion encourages the enemy to swing with their biggest minion first to get the most face damage before you turn immune, but Sudden Betrayal encourages them to use a weak minion to minimize the damage to their board. Combined the two give Rogue a really sturdy defense that might even persist for multiple turns, without feeling quite as hopeless as unkillable Ice Block + Ice Barrier mages.
My only problem is that the Rogue class in general is kind of fucked, since their only top tier deck right just relies on how well they can abuse Keleseth. Considering the 2-mana secrets directly anti-synergize with Kelly, I have a bad feeling that they'll be doomed to be good cards that never see play simply because Keleseth Rogue is better, and since they're both in Year of the Mammoth, we won't even be able to see what Rogue-Minus-Keleseth looks like unless Shadowstep gets sent to the Hall of Fame or something (which honestly, it probably will be).

This whole expansion is pretty much fun cards. Very few are viable, but if you never played the game to get the best rankings, you'll probably like where this expansion is going.
Elven minstel is OP, not only does it draw 2 cards, it also guarantees it to be minions... more chance at prince and if already played, 2 guaranteed buffed minions
Not sure if mechanics work like this but couldn't the frbolg a minion you just potioneded/shadowed of madness? Then it'd be yours permanently?
Like don't get me wrong it's not a combo worth running but I'm thinking for arena runs it's one of those tempo things that could actually be quite nice.
Why even make Mossbinger's minion an elemental if it doesn't even count as a summon? Why not make it target enemy minions as a powerful tech card? Why is it a 1/1? Why is it 6 mana? What did they want people to pull off with this card? So many more questions...
Furbolg definitely screams Arena card to me. I could see it seeing a lot of play there, especially after a value trade.
Does deck of wonders count towards quest completion ? If yes then it might replace tome in Quest mage.
Lasse Andersen tome is way better because of the potential of playing 3 or 4 girls and tome in the same turn, and play those discounted spells to count for ur unfinished quest, and then win
Trump, I'm disappointed you didn't see that Furbolg is also another minor nerf to Firelands (along with evolve)... that's the first thing I think of when I see a bad 5-drop now.

The problem with that is, that you jump through extra hoops just for a "fair" effect to happen, while "fair" effects usually aren't good enough if they require no setup at all. Setup-cost is a real thing and unless you get rewarded big time it is in most cases too steep.
Does Drywhisker Warrior give Dead Man's Hand even more leverage?

I wonder how different the opinions would be if Trump looked at them under the lens of being comparable to cards that are rotating out in the next standard year. Shamans are only 2 expansions away from losing Evolve and Doppelgangster, Warriors from losing Sleep with the Fishes, etc.

im really not sure why isnt Ultimate infestation a Legendary card, i mean its powerful as hell and if you could only limit druid to use only 1 of it then i guess that would kinda help

Evasion is literally rogue ice block. So when would you want evasion? In exactly the same situation you want ice block. When you need one turn to set up a ten mana combo. Is there a strong ten mana combo in rogue? Will there be? no idea.
But you can always evasion, into malygos, sinister strike, prep evis, prep evis, coin sinister strike or some other nonsense.

you could use a coin to get elven minstrel and then next turn play those two minions if they're two cost... so perhaps for quest rogue that has cheaper minions... Like the rogue alternative to that hunter 5 cost that pulls two 1's
... maybe mossbinder would become good if there were cards that required elementals on the field rather than only elementals that require having been played the turn before. the only relevant thing to that thought would probably be jainas lifesteal or something.... the 4 cost elementals that are kinda sturdy could attack before being morphed to 6/6 also...
Furbolg Mossbinder actually looks to be a strong Turn 5 play in Shaman and Paladin decks as their hero power generates cheap targets for Mossbinder and creates a dual threat leading into turn 6, dopple-evolve for the Shaman (or even Unstable Evolve multiple times) and Spikeridge/Tarim for Paladin. Both classes have been lacking strong Turn 5 plays that leading into their strong turn 6 and beyond plays. Also Mossbinder Memes in the form of Potion of Madness into Mossbinder, turn those enemy cards into 6/6s.

i feel like next expansion everyone is forced to run weapon removal... so basicly your deck will have 27 slots from now on, 1 for harrison, and 2 for your class's version of polymorph...
I guess furbolg is meant for lk mage to ping the 1/1 and have 2 elementals....

Now instead of flipping a coin to decide things, we can have a mirror match between mages each with 2 deck of wonders, 2 book, 2 cabalist's tome, 2 shimmering tempest, 2 servant of yogg, yogg-saron, tinkmaster and flame leviathan.
Evasion is good when you want to dodge any amount of damage, not just lethal, so it could work in Mill Rogue. Rogues add healing and taunt in just to make it to the end game, why not this?
They need to buff Unidentified Shield, if they want it to see play. Just make it 5 mana and call it a day.
