The blond soprano backing singer is Amanda Somerville who has sang in place of Simone for Epica. She has also sang for Kamelot, the band that gave Epica their name from their Sixth album. She has also sang with 4 female fronted Exit Eden who made metal versions of chart songs. Check out their version of 'Paparazzi' or 'Impossible.

    Please, do more EPICA!
I agree with suggestions for We Will Take You With Us (2004) and for Live at Paradiso (2006).
In both cases you can see very young EPICA and "baby Simone" with her wonderful soprano which still gives me eargasms.

This is Epica's alpha, like Simone said in her speech during the performance of this amazing song with Omega Alive. Always I get goosebumps, chills down the spine and teary eyes. This song is also the one which they have performed most times live on stage from all songs ever! And for sure baby Simone was soooo good already back in the days! Thank you to react to this masterpiece! Greetings from the Netherlands, the land of Epica! 🤘🏻

If you continue to go down the Epica rabbit hole, you will continue to learn the greatest of symphonic metal bands. I love all the Dutch and the Finnish and the German metal bands but Epica reigns supreme. They also deal with serious subjects often in their songs have so much meaning and that takes them even to a further level. Love a lot of their concerts with chorals and orchestra which only within temptation does also brings hugely sweeping beauty in their live concerts.

Epica played this song on their tour in the US with sabaton. The whole crowd knew it. It sounded great.

I remember how much this performance hit me when I first heard it, I ended up buying one of the old CDs of it off Amazon just to have all the songs, that was 10 years ago I think.
Definitely do Run for a Fall next, that one is my favorite from this set, a really emotional performance.

I believe this performance was 2004, which would make Simone 19 at the time.
One of their very first songs, and one of my favorite of the older songs. Written in 2002 for a 2 song demo. It is included on the debut album, The Phantom Agony. The song is still regularly played today.
Yes, you pretty much got it. It's their criticism of the way the Catholic church handled priests who molested children.
Mark Jansen(screamo guy😁 ) said the following about the song:
“This song is about a priest who raped a child. When I wrote this lyric, this was a hot topic in the news. The basic idea behind the song is that behind the doors of the church there are a lot of sick minds hidden. The basics of most religions are good but in this society there are a lot of sick people. With the phrase "In the garden of Eden, where the apple gets a youthful face” I try to say that Eve did eat the apple according to the Bible story, but this priest also ate the apple by raping a young child. The worst thing is that often the church is afraid to lose their “good name” and so they pay off the parents to keep it silent. This has to stop."

This was the very first song I heard from them and immediately fell in love with Simone and Mark's vocals, though I read somewhere that she actually was not happy about how that version of the song came out, since her mezzo-soprano voice wasn't as clear and high as it is right now, but in my opinion it's very beautiful, the orchestra gives it an extra punch

I am not so into Mark's voice. But the rest of the song is great.

    Hello SueSue & the Wolfman.
Simone's voice is so unbelievably beautiful, isn't it? Especially her operatic voice was quite different back then. Very warm and ethereal. No other singer sounds like she did back then. The performance is from 2004, so Simone was only 19 here. The "screamo guy" is Mark Jansen, the founder and mastermind of Epica. Simone was actually Mark's GF when she joined Epica and they were still a couple during this performance.
"We Will Take You With Us" is the title of this whole live TV studio session which was also released on DVD. The song is called just "Cry For the Moon" and it was actually their first song (2002).
I strongly recommend you to react to all songs from this studio session, they are all beautiful, with top-notch songwriting. It will make you appreciate Epica more. Their first album is not as heavy as later albums and like I said, Simone's voice was just stunning, very unique.
They also covered "Memory" from musical Cats in this session. It's just Simone and piano. That might as well make you cry.

Great choice for a new Epica reaction, and I was surprised Sue knew about the hard topic of the song (one of the first songs about the Child abuse on church after the early 2000s unveiled scandal). This song is very beloved by the fans, not a personal favorite by Simone though.

Not sure if you are still checking the comments for this but I know you are a fan of Coen, the keyboard player for Epica (curved keyboard ‘n all). I just wondered if you realised the young guy in the glasses directing the strings is the very same. Mark and Simone have changed a bit but he looks very, very different now.
Also wanted to add, as well as being a great keyboard player and showman, he is also responsible for most of the orchestral and choir arrangements for the band. A real talent.

Yes that is Amanda Somerville who thought Simone to sing in ways beyond her classical training that she had been doing since 15 ish. She also stepped in on Epica's tour when Simone got MRSA in her throat and was out for almost a year. Imagine, as someone who's entire life is signing, to get a MRSA infection in the throat...
