Prostate biopsy is a procedure used to diagnose prostate cancer. It involves collecting small samples of prostate tissue for microscopic analysis. Here's a quick summary of how it's done:
Preparation: Before the biopsy, you may need to have blood tests to check clotting. The patient may receive antibiotics before the procedure to reduce the risk of infection.
Anesthesia: Generally, local anesthesia is applied to the area around the prostate to minimize discomfort.
    Access Method:
Transrectal: This is the most common method. A transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) is often used to guide the biopsy needle.
Transperineal: In this method, the biopsy needle is inserted through the skin between the anus and the scrotum.
Sample Collection: A fine needle is inserted into the prostate to collect several tissue samples. TRUS helps guide the needle to different parts of the prostate to ensure comprehensive sampling.
Duration: The procedure usually takes about 10 to 20 minutes.
After the Biopsy: After the procedure, the patient may experience some bleeding in the rectum or urine and perhaps bleeding in the semen. These are usually temporary.
Sample Analysis: Samples are sent to a laboratory and analyzed by a pathologist to detect the presence of cancer cells.
It is important to emphasize that, although prostate biopsy is an important procedure for diagnosing prostate cancer, it has risks and benefits that should be discussed with your urologist!

Boa tarde, Francisca, tudo bem? O ideal é passar com um especialista em infecções para que seu caso seja resolvido! Abraço
