if you weren't there, you'll never know how this game was leaps and bounds compared to the available games then. that rockman 2 cart was the most used cart in the game rentals.
Pretty much this. It was a precursor to what Mario 3 is to Mario 1. Obvious generation gameplay design leap within the same generation of a console.
@@Criticalhitkoala mario 3 was the pinnacle honestly imo. there we were playing lode runner, bwings and super mario then punch out dropped, then rockman 2, then mario 3. it was like "how could they even top these?!". then snes dropped after a couple of years. it was awesome getting to experience it in that era.
As a Gen Xer I was there as well and it was REALLY AWESOME!! I went from NES to Nintendo Power ro SNES and now the Nintendo Switch!! With everything I had from my childhood sold so I could buy the OG Japanese version of systems and games!! From Famicom and Famicom Disk System to GameCube!! I still LOVE these games that are essential to my youth!!
I rented the game as well. It was an amazing game for a rental.
The production quality is sound, but I can't shake the feeling that this is mostly a surface level intro to Mega Man 2 than a full history.
I hope they don't take offense, but it feels like something AI-written and then just produced on top. I don't know how to feel once I get past the nostalgia of "yeah MM2 was the shit".
@@dmon007some of the phrases do remind me of ChatGPT! I'm also reminded of TechTV and other cable tv stations trying to balance niche content to a broad audience. I'm not really learning anything I didn't know already, but I'm 5 videos into this dude's content and the binge is about to continue :D
Lol the way you pronunciated keiji inafune made laugh so hard
Made it sound like whole new Robot Master
Yeah, and everyone who has ever played this game cringed when you let the intro music slide restart into the intro again you heathen. Then just saving Wiley theme for your intro, no sir no.
And then he let it happen again at the end of the video. It's almost like a mistake you could only make if you've never actually played the game, and you just looped the track because that's where it cut on the OST. Whereas anyone who ever actually experienced the music in-game rather than just as a list of MP3s on a tracklist would know that regardless of being divided into two tracks - it is ONE SONG. And it's not just like "oh these two songs kinda go together," no, it's like "these two tracks are literally one song, with the initial track being the literal lead-in and intro to the main part of the song, and the division into two tracks is arbitrary."
There were a couple other indicators that raised an eyebrow as well, making me think this video was just a compilation of second hand information put together by someone with no direct experience, but I think I've made the point enough.
Your cynical, true observations warm my heart haha
Probably thought if he'd let the intro play into the title theme, he'd get a copyright strike.
Was the script of this video done by Chat GPT? Nothing interesting here.
Yeah it's gotta be
Seriously...he repeats over himself several times...
Best nes game of all time
It was one of the first games I remember playing that allowed me to choose different bosses, so it was never the same every time I played and later plays were random. The music is what really makes each level and hearing Wiley's theme still makes me move my head.

I'm sorry, but this is a sub-quality video. You're pronouncing Inafune wrong as well as misrepresenting his role that early in the series. You give all this flowery praise of the second game without giving context to explain what was already done. And the way you constantly clip off the top and bottom of the screen, especially at points when Mega Man is in those edges, is really annoying.
yeah, I gave up after two "ina-foon"s. anyone with access to wikipedia thinks they are a content creation expert nowadays.
I never played MM games as a kid. I really enjoy them as an adult. And I would say that objectively MM2 is not as good as the later entries. However, I can understand and appreciate the impact this game had on so many people back in the day. This game was revolutionary
It amazed me, that I always remebered the music for being way slower and sounding way better back then. Mind blow, when I learned about PAL and NTSC differences and that indeed the music of the played PAL version was slower. When I dived into emulation and stuff I always thought "duh, this sounds as it is on LSD... that's bad". Try it, the PAL version sounds better.
Mega Man 2 is a perfect sequel. It improves on everything that made the original game great.
Mega man 2, 3 and 4 are my favorites
👊
It's insane to think one guy created this soundtrack in a short amount of time, with hardly any support from Capcom.
Fa real
Your pronunciation of "Inafune" is a crime against humanity. It is perhaps the worst insult to Japan since Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Maybe so 😂
TBH MegaMan2 was my first Megaman and I loved it. When I then played the original didn't like it as much as MM2
Love to see retro game video history videos like this still being made today.
Great video. Mega Man 2 is one of my favorites and challenges Super Mario Bros. 3 for my favorite NES game regularly. As a kid it was one the first "hard" games I plugged a lot of time into learning the ins and outs to the point where even 30+ years later much of it is still in my muscle memory. My beating the Quick Man stage laser bars without using Time Stopper still ranks highly for me as a personal achievement. I haven't used Time Stopper on it since. One of my favorite things is watching videos or streams of people playing MM2 for the first time. I often relearn things I have forgotten over the years as my I know how to beat the enemy without it. I'm no speed runner but it is a game I do like to beat as fast as I can seeing if I can make it without dying or using an E-tank.
A very important aspect of the level select approach is that it allows beginners to enjoy their time and sharpen their skills. Nothing made you scream 'I hate this!' more than being mercifully beaten up in the first stage of a game.
I played this first when I was about 8 years old, suffice to say I was not that good with games in general. Reaching the end of one (exept Super Mario Bros) was not even imaginable. With the Megaman serie I could try and retry stages that I liked more, eventually reaching the boss room with a single hp bar left. Of course I would get destroyed instantly, but seeing the boss was a reward in itself. Then I could try my luck at other stages. Still no progress made but game time was adding up, along with skill acquisition. Finally, after many rentals, I managed to beat one. The feeling was incredible.
No surprise it was the most rented one, players of any skill level could enjoy it. It was rare that a game made you whant to persevere.
Everything was here. Cool graphics, killer soundtrack, top notch diverse level design, modulable progression, sharp controls, and most of all... easy to play, hard to beat.
10/10
MegaMan three was more my favorite growing up. It was my cousin‘s first mega man game for the NES spent countless nights staying up all night, beating levels and figuring out which power up killed the current stages, boss, the quickest and writing it down, keeping all passwords written down in the manual in the note section, those were awesome times before mental illness took over my cousin and now we don’t talk no more watching videos like this. Reminds me of better days if you or anyone you know is struggling with mental illness please get the help you need.❤😊
The summer of 89 was magical on the NES...Ninja Gaiden & Mega Man 2 are some of the best games on the system.
Best soundtrack, with chrono trigger.
I tried to think of a way to say this nicely, but please look up Japanese phonetics. Vowels are always pronounced as written and a few minutes of research will come in very handy.
Wiley stage music for the win baby!
I played MM2 first and reaaallly enjoyed it. The beginning theme is so iconic, up there with NES Double Dragon and Ninja Gaiden tunes. I went back to play the 1st MM and oh brother. That one’s difficulty was off the charts!
The beginning MM2 theme is the ending MM1 theme.
OH LOOK...ANOTHER MM2 VIDEO...
no offense to your video retro reload but. pretty sure akira kitamura was the person to be the leader of mega man 2's creation then it was inafune as inafune was the person to work on the sprites
No offense taken at all. Thanks for watching!
"ina-foon" jesus christ man.
I know, I know 🤦♂️😅
so funny you keep mispronouncing kejis name
he deserves it after mighty no 9
Lmao! 🤦♂️ 😂
