    Wasn't the signal Code Code 3 at first. Why do they keep changing the signal code. Unless they changed the area Fire Codes in your area or Is there a issue with the panel

  • @GaryBeltz
    @GaryBeltz ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Does the school have three different panels? The beginning of the video the alarms are in continuous, then the majority of the school is on code-3/temporal, and the area with the true alerts in on a slow match time

      No it’s just one it’s a simplex 4100es

      Each NAC (notification appliance circuit) can be independently coded. Systems like this typically have NAC boosters distributed throughout the building in addition to the NACs in the panel itself.
      One common setup on older systems is to have a horn circuit that does temporal, and a strobe circuit that outputs a sync pattern (which for older Simplex strobes was just 60 bpm march time). Modern systems can sync both the horns and the strobes using the brand-specific sync protocol (SmartSync, System Sensor sync, Wheelock sync, etc.)
      When you have horns and non-synchronizable strobes on the same circuit (which appears to be the case here), the best option is to set the circuit (and connected audibles) on continuous so that the strobes flash at the correct rate and the horns don't fall out of sync with each other. Unsynchronized code 3, especially when there's a ton of devices in a single space, is more "noise" than "signal", if that makes sense.

    I do not want the mechanical horns to change.🙁

  • @officialsimplexguy

    Sheesh that must’ve been a nasty surprise. My school has 9838s and 9219s in temporal. I’d be upset if they started doing continuous all of a sudden.

    • @Fahrenheit4051
      @Fahrenheit4051 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What really disappointed me was going back to my high school to do the inspection and finding out that the 4050-80+4051 signals were doing continuous instead of march time. Continuous is my favorite code for newer mechanical horns like the -9838 and -9219, but 4051's sound better on march time, and steady incandescent light plates are boring.
      The problem with doing temporal with non-synchronizable strobes on the same circuit as the horns is that they produce an erratic flash pattern that looks like crap and ends up being less than 1 Hz.

    • @officialsimplexguy
      @officialsimplexguy ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Fahrenheit4051 depends on the strobes. Yes, most will flash less than 1hz but there are some exceptions. The 9219s at my school all flash in sync with the horns so In a way, It works out better than if they were on continuous.
      And I agree, steady lamps are boring. Kinda defeats the purpose of a lamp because when lit continuously, they blend in with the light in the building making it difficult for someone to notice and understand what their purpose is. But hey, that’s why strobes exist.

    My work place could use some covers. Literally there are Siemens As's and Spectralert advances that have cracks on them because likely they've been hit once upon a time, so it's either the strobes or the plastic pieces that broke on them. I'm waiting to find a fire alarm that is completely smashed for them to finally come up with the idea to put covers on the alarms. They coulda also used ceiling mounts once upon a time, but nope. They desparetly need covers, though.

    Uh oh, looks like a failed horn or bad connection @5:08, like one of those 2901-9833s (predecessor to the 2901-9838 and 2901-9846) in one of SimplexTech's videos, with a Simplex 4005, where the tech goes to the lower floor to only see a blinking light. Looks like 2901-9838 if not 2901-9846 in this video. I know that the 2901-9833s were infamous for randomly dying, but even then, a lot of them have been in service for much longer than the few that failed. (I think the 2901-9838s have the same problem, possibly the same with the 2901-9846s)

      But, doesn't seem as "franken-mix" as the last school I was at. That dead 2901-9833 by the gym doors, was replaced with a System Sensor MA, which was installed into the 2903-9101 by 1998, IIRC. (xenon-strobe version) The 2901-9833 didn't even make it to 2000, while most on the campus, still seemed OK in 2002. The Simplex 2001 was in continuous. Then to the right of that 2903-9101 by the early-2000s, if not shortly before, a Wheelock MT got installed. Then on the ground floor: What looked like a dead 2901-9806 replaced with a System Sensor MA (added in 1998, IIRC) in a 2903-9101. Then the others nearby: 2 Gentex SHGs, a Federal Signal 450E in the art class (added in 1996 or 1995, IIRC) and a Wheelock MT in horticulture added in 1998, IIRC.
