I have played this song so many times. I love the Redback book so much. This has to be one of most famous of all the old hymnals. Our church bought 50 of these books a very long time ago, just because it had one song the Baptist hymnal didn't have, Victory in Jesus. The new Baptist Hymnal has it now. I fell in love with Redback Hymnal the first time I saw it. I was given a copy by a friend at a different church now and it sits on my piano.
We need a return to these great songs of the faith and the comfort and assurance and message of the songs! We need this in these days more than ever! PLEASE churches... RETURN to these great songs!
Arggg! Why has this church started skipping verses in almost every song? How can you witness to someone in verse four if you haven't accepted Christ yourself from verse two? Beautiful singing and wonderful music cannot make up for leaving out parts of the story told by the song. Verse one: I was a sinner and heard the Word and was convicted of my sin Verse two: I accepted and submitted myself to Christ my Savior Verse three: Oh how I long to be in heaven with Jesus Verse four: In obedience to the great commission to spread the gospel, I would like to invite you to accept Christ yourself A lot of good people are convicted of their sin, but never yield themselves. They talk about how everyone is going to be in heaven; yet they themselves are lost and on their way to hell. They play church, and the world wants nothing to do with a place full of hypocrites (for sinners we may be, but walking like the world while talking about Jesus doesn't show them a change has taken place in our lives).
And your critical spirit isn't of God either. We are all just sinners saved by grace. We aren't perfect yet. God is still working on us. We won't be perfect till we get to heaven.

This has to be a Baptist church. I grew up in a Baptist church and we never sang the third verse. I don't know why. We moved in later years now and joined a Cumberland Presbyterian church which is very close to a Baptist church and ironically, they sing ever verse regardless of how many there are. We join the church one Sunday morning on the first verse of a 5 verse song and stood there with the pastor until they sang every one of them during the invitation.

I love the former style of singing these anthems by Redback Church. I have anchored my soul in the Haven of rest who is our Lord Jesus.

It’s done like that to save time they sing a lot of songs and singing certain verses helps to be able to sing more songs
