When installing an outdoor boiler pour at least a 10x 12’ pad bigger if possible install the boiler to one side and to the back of the pad. Then Ann a roof and sides if you want. The front can be open. Pot you chimney through the roof, this enclosure lets you store 3-4 cords of wood under cover, readily accessible and makes it easy to load in a heavy snow or rain

I've got an older Central Boiler CL5648, of course non-gasification boiler. The older ones seem so much easier to use than these newer ones. Been heating with it since 2005 when we purchased it here in northern VT. My concern going to these newer boilers is having to split and stack my wood stock, and making sure it is seasoned properly. Right now I just drag the trees over close to it and make a large pile of logs for the winter and cut as I need it. I also often burn logs the same year I cut them and sometimes put in logs as large as I can physically pick up. The only benefit going to the newer ones that I see is a reduction in the amount of wood I would burn. Still watching videos on these and trying to decide, thanks for your posting your video.

A lot depends on where you’re from. Some years SW Pennsylvania is cold as the dickens. Other years, like this year, 10 degrees is the coldest I’ve experienced. If you normally burn 7 cord a year, I’m betting you would get away with 4-5 a year.

    • @RockyAcresFarmstead
      @RockyAcresFarmstead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

There is a of items that could be wrong. I would tell you to first troubleshoot air.
      1. Is the coal bed too thick? If so, remove some and don’t load the furnace soo full. You’ll get the hang of it. You should be loading the furnace every 12 hours. If the wood is seasoned, you can load the furnace when there isn’t much wood left in the firebox.
      2. Air channel blockage. Make sure there isn’t any buildup inside the air channels.
      3. Make sure the settings are correct for your area.
I would suggest calling and or writing to central boiler that you’re having an extremely hard time with your furnace.
Also there is a Facebook group called “central boiler owners”. Good group of people that have a lot of good ideas.

I have a Edge 750. I'm into my 5th season, My wood is seasoned and covered. I still have to check the boiler twice a day. Wood gets hung up a lot, Chain system in back gets clogged, Ash bed blocks air vents, This boiler has too much maintenance to keep it running correctly. Have to shut it down and clean interior twice a year minimum. Too much maintenance!!!! Already had to buy a new fan, changed the door seal twice, new internal thermostat, many of the bolt mounts are rusted beyond use. Think again about buying.

Hi Dan , I have a “ pro fab “ 175 and it requires maintenance - clean it every 2 weeks ( quick clean - about 15 minutes ) then do a good cleaning - about 25 minutes, had the boiler for 11years - had a pin- hole leak inside the burn chamber, fixed that - now have another leak somewhere - now thinking about getting the “ 560 or the “ 760 “ those outside boilers are nice. - require some work / maintenance - but it sure is nice to come into the house where it is nice and warm - you can’t beat wood heat - if you want to work on making the wood - 🙂

This has worked very well for me
Simple, cheap, and effective. My two big bitches are the cold , and moving it next to the burner. I still have the bother of keeping it full and with seasoned wood. But other than mimor snow removal near the unit, its very easy loading.th-cam.com/video/4PAK6pXaIcg/w-d-xo.html

The best parts. It always starts. It burns no diesel. It requires almost no maintenance. It is tricky trying to keep the seasoned wood on the outer most end. If i were starting from scratch and younger i would say have two leantos and alternate yearly. I need a coffee maker in it too.😁

Why buy a wood boiler with out a huge supply of wood. Father in laws wood pile sounds kind of spongy.

I bought the boiler for the cheap source of heat compared to oil.
I have 10 cord in the white building next to the furnace. As for the “spongy”, if he isn’t going to use it, what should he do with it? Donate it to goodwill? Give it to a neighbor, or just let it sit in his driveway and rot?

Wind rain and cold is cooling down that outdoor boiler.that should be inclosed in a building.then watch your wood consumption to go down no way being outside with the cold wind and rain and snow makes a oudoors boiler very less effective. Without haveing.it in a inclosed building...

In a perfect world, that would be great. I’m planning on building a garage where the furnace is sitting currently. In 2011, when the furnace was set, that wasn’t even an option. My
Whole set up will change eventually

I have anthracite hard coal furnace, and right now we are having a hard time getting hard coal here in Pennsylvania.
When Trump was in office I was paying $200.00 a ton. Now the coal is costing $350.00 to $380.00 a ton.
The reason for this is that they ar shipping a lot of our hard coal over seas. A coal stove dealership had told me yesterday that China is willing to give up to $400.00 dollars for a ton of hard coal, plus pay for the shipping.
Where I live, the Pennsylvania government has given China and Germany access to a few of our coal companies where they are in charge of them.
When Biden and Kamala ran for President both had said that they were going to open the door to get rid of our coal and fossil fuel.
I did some research and found out that Obama increased the overseas shipment of coal.
And now Nancy Polecat through Sleepy Joe have done the same..

When I decided to stick with wood vs coal, I did so thinking that coal prices would climb as global demand climbed. My in laws heat their homes with an indoor anthracite burner. They’re probably extremely happy that they purchased 4 tons in April!

I live in a 4 bedroom 2 story farm house that used to be a log house.
I only burn no more then 3 tons of hard coal a year.
If I would use the oil boiler furnace it would probably cost me three full oil tanks a year..
The coal makes it nice where I don't have to attend the fire so often, and I can even get a 24 hour burn out of it. It is an older New Yorker model 130 coal furnace

That's the free market for ya. One of the main reasons I decided to bite the bullet and pay for a wood boiler was to no longer be subject to the whims of petroleum companies. Energy prices are only going to climb. Feels good to know I can heat my house without bringing anything in from off property.
