What a great resource and compilation of excerpts!! Everyone’s playing was so clean and Sgt. Eldridge has articulation like a machine, so consistent and precise! Great video!
As a high school senior clarinetist, this video made my day! The Blue Shades, Chorale and Shaker Dance, and Molly on the Shore for Soprano clarinet excerpts are my favorites.
Correct-we’re highlighting typical professional military band audition repertoire. There’s some crossover but not everything comes from orchestral works.
I remember when I was a junior in high school, my class got a piece called “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” by John Barnes Chance. There were a lot of sixteenth notes, and I, a 2nd clarinet player, complained “Look at all this black ink…” Now I know it’s practically a requirement to have a lot of black ink in a clarinet excerpt. 😂
I will definitely see bass clarinet differently ! Quick question if anyone can answer me : are the variations on a shaker melody inspired from "simple gifts" ? It sounds like the same to me
Interesting... I had a Lt. Colonel Army High School Music teacher, he tried and get several of us into the Army School of Music....... that was in '67.......I passed , the marines were on my *** and I got drafted... so be it.... I still play for sport but time is passing fast, love this and Thank You for posting.
@1:09 GOD i hate how easy Sgt. Eldridge makes this seem😅😂 What an amazing clarinet player. Slow it down to 3/4 speed and that’s about where I’m personally at
The wild thing is if you slow it way down, it's still not in perfect time. Really goes to show just how much these excerpts can theoretically be perfected.
He got the ability to play from years of work and practice. As a Clarinet player myself, God didn’t give me any talent. My own practice brought me there. I started from nothing and practice brought me to something.
Bravissimi!!! Anch'io studio clarinetto, ma non imparerò mai 😭Il mio più grande desiderio sarebbe suonare "Petite fleur", di Sidney Bechet. Vi ammiro moltissimo. Thank you so much🤗
What are the excerpts for alto clarinet? 😂 Also I know it's not technically y'all's exact area of focus, but any possibility you could make a similar video with orchestral excerpts?
As a high school player who doodles around with half of these tunes, glad to know that it's at least not a terrible use of practice time!
Hey, look on this part 3:18, and look at the top.

Thanks so much!

Im a middle school clarinetist and I can confirm this is in tune
This makes me want to pursue bass clarinet as a proper career, this guys are awesome
These guys are insane! I hope to be at their level one day
The Hindemith was a surprise entry. Hard to believe they didnt put the solo E flat clarinet from Belioz Dream of a Witches Sabbath as well
I think this is more band music excerpts than orchestra but I love the symphonie fantastique excerpt

0:18 were playing Molly on the shore for one of our symphonic pieces in my band this year. More specifically for me, 6:41 I'm a bass clarinet!!!

Thanks for watching!
4:00 Master Sgt Jennifer, absolutely killed that solo. Would love to hear her in concert.
I will definitely see bass clarinet differently ! Quick question if anyone can answer me : are the variations on a shaker melody inspired from "simple gifts" ? It sounds like the same to me
Yes that's correct! Simple Gifts is the Shaker melody that the variations are based on.
