Hi everyone, Nick Werth here. First time reading the comments in a long, long time haha. What stands out the most is how quick some of us are to assume and to judge based on appearance. It's the exact same problem on a much larger scale in our current 2021 context... we are CONSTANTLY being conditioned to believe things based on WHAT WE SEE. If we close our eyes and listen, nothing about what we hear says "pothead." When we open our eyes, only then does the conditioning creep in.
Same thing goes for diversity. We have been conditioned, from the top down, to assume certain traits of a person based on what we see. If I'm wearing a Pioneer uniform, we may assume the solo won't be that great and walk on by. If I'm wearing a Carolina Crown uniform, we may assume I'm more advanced and stop to listen.
Most importantly, COLORBLINDNESS IS NOT THE GOAL. Some older individuals still see "colorblindness" as a benefit. Being blind to color is being blind to diversity. Diversity is what makes this country beautiful. The goal is to acknowledge diversity without allowing our conditioning to create or superimpose assumptions. Let's give each other the benefit of the doubt. Let's allow the player to show us their skill level before we decide what they can and can't do. If we want to be heard with an open mind, we must listen with an open mind. The Golden Rule.

Hey Nick, your drumming and music compositions have always been very unique and pretty phenomenal. I learned ROC #2 and 3 back in college (I posted a vid of #3 on fakebook back in the day and you had commented) and those were about the only ones I could grasp haha. Life takes everyone on different paths- especially these days. I wish you well on whatever endeavors you seek with your music and life in general. Upload more when you get the chance.

Very well said. I admit I had seen this long ago, looked over rhythm of conscience, formed a very shallow opinion, and moved on. But your compositions are truly amazing and I am sorry to have judged so quickly.

that was fire bruv, most of these kids haven't event marched dci. I marched quads from crown in 2015 and 2016 and that was really nasty, and so different from all the other quad I&e's I've seen. Bravo

A lot of you are still assuming, so here's some history on my cannabis usage. I tried it three times when I was 18. In college, I smoked weed for the fun, laughs, and deep conversations. Most assume that alcohol was in the mix too, but that's only because of our conditioning. Fortunately, my mother conditioned me with stories of my alcoholic grandfathers, and I didn't use alcohol the way a lot of college kids do. When I marched DCI, the rules were no different. Get caught smoking weed, get sent home. Most of the time, it was not worth the risk. I did almost get sent home in 2002, but that was for the one margarita I drank on a free day (zero tolerance for drinking at Crown 02, even if you're 21).
Throughout my adulthood, cannabis has been my go-to stimulant in moderation. Instead of drinks with friends, I prefer a few hits of some good weed. Over the last decade, cannabis has become more medicinal and less recreational for me, especially as more and more options are readily accessible and legal. Indica specifically helps me relax when faced with anxiety and restlessness. Sativa specifically helps uplift my mood, and can sometimes stimulate my creativity in unique ways. That said, sativa will sometimes trigger my anxiety. This is why it's imperative to know exactly what I'm consuming, and to consume in moderation.

@@pennsylvanianAntDepravity ... No fucking shit. I watched the video because it's a solid fucking rep of his solo. I commented because he's incessant about _"guise its super mean and not nice to assume i was high but i also do love weed sooo"_
I still don't have a fucking clue what this has to do with ignorance, nor do I know why your panties are braided so fucking tight.

It's a shame that this solo was actually a lot more exciting and polished than his official I&E solo that he performed in uniform. I think he definitely could've placed higher because this solo is probably one of the best of all time in terms of musicality and creativity.
