As an apprentice in my third year undertaking a heavy diesel apprenticeship, you see a lot of slow people but you also see a lot of smart people, arguably smarter than a lot of uni students. Because if you do well in a trade you can earn more money than people that went to uni. Some people actually did decent at school but hated studying and didn't want to work a 9-5 in an office.
dropped out of a pretty great university studying aerospace engineering after a year of it to become a chippy. in my second year now and id never go back. lifestyle is better and the lifeskills you learn in a trade are way too undervalued.
you don't go to uni for money, you do it so you don't have to spend 50 years digging fuckin holes in the sun before you can retire with a fucked back
exactly, better work/life balance and you can earn money from early top actually do the things you want, plus I found people in trades typically are more mature/humbled compared to other people@@Juuqe
how's the heavy diesel work treating ya? im 15 lookin to get into it and ive just done a pre app in heavy metal fabrication and ive always been into mechanical and trucks as my dad used to do heavy haulage, worth it ya reckon? cheers
Definitely worth it, don't go into cars unless you just want to do oil changes and brakes. If something breaks on a car you replace it, if something breaks on a truck you rebuild it. Cheaper to rebuild a truck engine than get a crate motor. In aus especially we rely on trucks, so you'll have work for decades. cars are getting more automated every year, diesel for trucks won't be phased out in our lifetime. If you're committed its a rewarding industry but it's hard work, can pay a heap in the long run especially if you get a job in the mines. I'm a perfect mix of both worlds. Parents are both doctors, but I spent a lot of time with my absolute bloke uncle that was in the military and is now a bricky. I also went to both a private school in middle school and a public school during high school, making me slightly well educated, but also a casual non-wanker. Currently studying international relations at university, but am in the Army reserves to keep me sane, cos everyone at my uni is either a sports asshole, a nerd, or a pretentious wanker.

I have 4 TAFE certificates. One as a Boilermaker. The second as a Pattern-maker. The third for Polymers and Plastics . The forth for for Material Science. I never needed a Degree in Science to have a job.

Nahhh, i got some people in the lectures who ask the most advanced questions and even confuse the lecturer. The study part is true though, if i study less than 20 hours it does get a bit hard remembering everything.
