In the 80's I had the Voltron action figures, it came as a set of 5 robot lion figures that snapped together to make 1 large robot figure, a few years ago my dad said he saw someone on a t.v. show where they appraise retro collectibles and I think in the box it was worth around $50,000, kinda made me want to start digging in some old boxes to see if I could piece my old Voltron toy back together. 😅
A cool video to follow up on this would be: “Rare Items” by emplemon. He makes documentary style videos and this particular one was about rare items in the world.
Over the years I never really thought about any thing or toy being rare... things come and things go. Now I don't want and can't afford to have things that nobody else has!!
when i was a kid i watched Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh on TV and i was collector of Pokémon & Yu-Gi-Oh cards, i don't know where my Pokémon & Yu-Gi-Oh cards went too 😢
13:28 - why? Collectors collect because they like to collect. The more expensive and rare and unique something is, the more they want to own it. Taste, price, rarity, trade and business.
Just this year I sold all of my Pokemon cards for $100. It's only an "investment" because my parents bought them for me like 20 years ago haha The difference between version of Pokemon cards is wild. I'm pretty sure he only bought my whole set of cards was because I had a decent Charizard card that was worth about $120 on its own, and the rest were worth like $1-2 each. I appreciated the fact that he did like 20mins of research while I was in the store, and then walked me through the comparable sales. He made his 30% commission and I walked away happy.

Daz, put your Pokémon cards into penny sleeves and toploaders.
Seeing stuff like this makes me sad about getting rid of old stuff as a kid not ever thinking they could be worth something in todays market 😭
