- Traffic has come to a standstill along the N3 on both the south and north bound in Westville, Durban, following a taxi strike.
Earlier this morning some roads in parts of the city were also blockaded.

just hearing a taxi boss surrendering a fight to a police commissioner gives me peace and hope that this man can be a leader of police nationally
Thank you Mr Khwanazi for the role you have played.
You’ve ensured peace and calm in a well mannered way.
Same ppl complaining will still vote for a useless party .
I feel like this can be a beginning of a major protest before elections
It’s a possibility
Mkhwanazi should have been our national commissioner
Your government doesn't want him, they won't be able to control him. That's a real police officer there
He was acting police commissioner under Jacob Zuma. He once said “I am a cop. I want the police environment to have clean cops. If we want to fight crime we must rid the SAPS of criminals and stay with clean cops,”. Immediately the crime rate across the board decreased because of his cleanup mission. When Zuma was ousted Makhwanazi was removed on fabricated charges.
CIC JS MALEMA have long time suggested that Commissioner Mkhwanazi is more than fit to be Minister of police.
Indeed he did say that a long time....
Mkhwanazi for national commissioner

Taxis always striking .They must be replaced by desent public transport like trains and busses.
Why would a normal person want to take a whole bus or train instead of just hopping onto a taxi and going immediately? And who even has the authority to "replace" millions of taxi vehicles?
We the people must rise against this criminality hiding behind the livelihood of poor people, it's because of taxi's that our transport system is in shambles, just as an example, look at the state of these taxi ranks . The price of using a taxi is ridiculously high, and to top it all the drivers have no respect for their commuters.... The majority not all drivers though
They should be regulated and pay tax. Their drivers should be registered and contribute to pension funds etc .

@@angrysocialjusticewarrioreverywhere else in the world besides South Africa. Just today, 28 May another 13 people died in a horror taxi accident. There is a taxi accident every day. And you still want that coffins on wheels transporting you.
Poor drivers again being used by their tycoon bosses and their SA Taxi Association bosses as political pawns.
Shame on you, Controllers!
Its the drivers getting arrested and having their licenses and vehicles taken. The protest is to their benefit as well. From what i can gather about the problems the taxi industry is facing, it seems the department responsible for issuing permits is now operating like home affairs. They work whenever they want to, they issue permits to whoever they want to, and their systems are offline whenever they want to.
I hope that even after managing to geta meeting with a minister that these bosses will not make the mistake of voting for the yellow party again. If a taxi is roadworthy, the owner is registered for tax, and is a member of a valid association, they must issue a permit with the same speed they do for trucks and busses.
@@angrysocialjusticewarriorit’s deeper than that Ma’ma
Well said Sir.
Their timing though is suspicious.
They do not determine the timing. If their permits were issued properly, none of this would be happening regardless of timing.
If they do it the right way then they should wait for their pernitslike everyone else...period....but instead they're using goods vans and turning into taxi's cos it cost cheaper.
Your angry so turn your anger to the right people which is the illegal corrupt individuals trying to hold us as citizens hostage ...and yes the timing has everything to do with the elections....stop covering cos we havto obey laws so does everyone else.
What timing.it is not the first time this year,it just that you never payed attention
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior you cannot turn a panel Van into a taxi and expect a "legal " taxi permit for an illegal vehicle....
@@thokomalangcobo1824 we pay attention, that's exactly it, why can our people not have peace and prosperity, always disruption and chaos....oh I forgot that's what they thrive on to keep us as a working economy from growing while these Bosses drive flashy sport cars.

@@bathandwagumede46don’t glamourise crime.
@@Bat-Wing He is not glamorizing crime, he is being realistic. Those bosses chose to calm down because Mkwanazi told them he will hold a meeting with them on Sunday and help them get into contact with the leaders in the transport department. But people on social media seem to be getting carried away and thinking he made them afraid.
In Western cape, the whole country saw for themselves what happened when cops chose to assault drivers instead of trying to fix matter. Many officers fell victim in following weeks and things got so bad that the mayor had to release their vehicles and make a meeting with them (which is something he could have done from the beginning).
Dialogue is very important....sibonge Mkhwanazi
True, but not by blocking roads .

Uyindoda Mkhwanazi
Namhlanje babumbene, kusasa babulalana bodwa.
Police must do their job
Simple things no license no permission to be on road .
So when you pay large sums of money to get all licenses and paperwork, and the government takes all that money and tells you to take a hike, you should then not be allowed to work because of some senseless department? If the state is going to play games when it comes to issuing permits, then the permit system should just be scrapped and all the payments given back to avoid confrontations between operators and enforcers.
This is due to failing of relevant official's to render services this is the results

So they chose to lose money and risk their vehicles by staging a protest and getting arrested just because they like attention?

Goodluck using your train buddy. Not every train is like the Gautrain.
@angrysicialjusticewarrior why does these taxis not obey lawlike all citizens, and the trains could all be like the gautrain if no strategic vandalism is done to benefit these "Bosses". I grew up with busses and trains and taxi...whenever bus or train drivers had to strike, the taxi's benefited and no one destroyed any taxi's or killed anyone or blocked roads.... don't glamourize thuggery or crime in any fashion cos, it just brings us down as a country and it just benefits gangsters.
