    Thank you PM School for these really cool videos on approaching RCA. The only ones that actually shows how to handle this type of question in an interview.Great stuff. One thing I would request the team to do is may be do a similar one for physical devices. Like a device debugging. Nevertheless, this+other 2 videos, they are GOLD. Thanks again.

    Good analysis to drill down the Root Cause. I was wondering if taking a look at the competitors and their performance during the same period when Uber experienced a drop in rides in this case-study would have given the same insight. If Covid restriction were the reasons for people to travel less and leading to lesser rides, all the cab-hailing services would have shown the same result. Feel this could have been more-fact based as compared to adopting "Process of Elimination" strategy to end up with Covid restrictions as the root cause.

    Hey
    thanks for this clear and precise framework. It was on point.
    I just came across two more external factor while solving RCA under this problem statement
    Under External factors
    We can also ask
    1- if the supply of the cab/car is up to the mark?
    2- If cab supply is up to the mark. are drivers' active working hours checked?

    GREAT analysis ! Thanks ! One internal factor I want to add is : Did Uber ran a campaign (offering low prices to users ) earlier which caused a temporary hike in rides and then once the campaign is over it settled back to its original volume with the current dip.

  • @azadsharma8958
    @azadsharma8958 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Another external factor could be was there any mishap with with rider's which forcing customer to avoid rides for their safety of life and property. Just a thought

      @Amrit Karan Singh No Safety should have been a seperate point of consideration in itself for business models such as UBER/OYO etc. -ve PR doesnt adequately cover it

  • @e.w.6470
    @e.w.6470 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks for the video. exhaustive analysis. but you will end up asking the interviewers too many questions like doing a checklist. 1. i'd explore external factors first because a lot of factors are more noticeable than internal system glitch. If that's because of covid, as the PM you stay updated on the market and probably have already noticed the change in the industry and competitors. 2. 50% drop is hugely different than say 10% drop, prioritize the areas to explore based on the specific question and add more of your thoughts to the answer. 3. the user flow is on the riders side but on the drivers side is missing. The driver not able to accept ride request is also possibly a reason.

    Can be add in external factor that the review we receive .. driver behaviour , vehicle cleaning

    I was wondering that we didnt think of customer complaints , I believe even that can be included

    • @prakharjain9068
      @prakharjain9068 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Customer complains might include "Driver's behavior" ,"Amount got deducted but ride not completed", and a few more. which are very specific. A 50% decline would be a result of a more General complain like "Drivers not accepting rides - which could be due to protest or strikes - which is already clarified that is not seen."
      Please let me know what do you think?

    • @kpremchandani1
      @kpremchandani1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@prakharjain9068 if protest and strikes in a particular region it won’t be 50% decline in that region it would be 100%. Customer complaints can also be around a region which can also be a new market where drivers are only wanting to accept cash. Probably customers are not carrying that much cash eg: Bangalore , max Uber and ola drivers cancel the ride but if you agree to pay cash they drop you. But as per the data it’s still a cancelled ride which can contribute to 50% drop and unless some customer complaints you won’t even know. Please do let me know your thoughts

    @pmschholx Should we not consider the marketing spends shift (decrease in paid marketing) or decrease in marketing budgets in the internal factors? This could impact new users acquisition / retargeting users?

    • @pmschoolx
      @pmschoolx  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For sure, an important factor! Good one Rishabh.

  • @99sunidhi
    @99sunidhi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It started with a ride being defined as 'when the driver presses complete ride' button. So are we saying here that since the bookings were less, the driver couldn't press this button?

    • @pmschoolx
      @pmschoolx  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sunidhi!
      At 5:19 in the video, we are asking the interviewer whether this drop was seen at all the steps in the journey. We want to ask this question to ascertain where exactly in the funnel was there an issue. Maybe there could have been a drop because of riders not getting rides on time, or the drop could have been due to an increased no. of drivers cancelling the ride at the last minute.
      When the interviewer tells us at 5:57 that the drop is seen in all the steps, this indicates to us that even in App Opens (which is the first step) there is a 50% drop. This drop also exists in the other steps, but if its seen in the first step itself, it tells us that there isn't necessarily a problem within the app as such, but that there is something preventing users from opening the app in the first place.
      The root cause that you have mentioned above -- drivers not being able to press the complete ride button -- could also be a reason, but since the App Open event precedes the Complete Ride event, we want to first focus on why App Opens have declined by 50% and then possibly later, if needed, focus on other steps in the funnel.
      Hope this helps!

    Hello PM School Team,
    The video was extremely helpful while giving an interview, thank a lot and I just love to answer of the question which I've mentioned below with the similar scenario.
    I would love your opinion on the question I have.
    What If the interviewer tells me that, It's an internal problem because we have an increased price for customers by 15% then what would be the best answer? Please let me know your valuable thoughts on this.
    Thank You!

    • @prakharjain9068
      @prakharjain9068 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In my opinion, then you should clarify that has this increase also been made by the competitors?
      If Yes - This might not exactly be the Root cause.
      if No - Then this has a potential to be a root cause.
