  • A compilation of low notes from a variety of singers and genres, hence there's not about 300 clips of acapella which will probably upset some people but oh well. Each singer only used once.
    Making this into a descending chromatic series thing. See how long it’ll last lol.
    Hopefully if it’s good I’ll make more.
    Any mistakes on notes or singer identification let me know pls.
    Already prepped down to C1 so please don't feel the need to recommend any more singers for me to include
    Please don't beg to be featured in a video, if you do I almost certainly won't put you in, and even if you don't beg you probably won't end up in the vid anyway.
    I'm not going to include random people burping out low notes for the sake of trying to see what they can scrape out. I want an element of quality in these videos lol. If someone appears that you don't know as a singer or the note seems more miscellaneous in nature or less in-context, I've included it as they are singer/having singing training/some sort of singing experience and they can use their voice properly and with purpose, not just for creating vocal clicks, unless they do something really amazing
    In this whole series, only one note wasn't able to reach a 5 minute video. if you can guess which one that is... I dunno, I might like your comment or something
    I know I said E1 was my favourite, but this might be my joint favourite one of the series... surprisingly good variety again
    Also the L Cohen Eb1 probably isn't countable but I wanted to include it and thought it sounded cool and I was running out of notes to get it to 5 minutes okay lmao

    The clip at 0:55...
    London doesn’t reach the Eb1 until the last bar. I wasn’t wearing headphones and made a mistake and marked him singing it too early. Whoops a daisy
    [edit]: it’s an F1 anyway....
    Also the L Cohen Eb1 probably isn't countable but I wanted to include it and thought it sounded cool and I was running out of notes to get it to 5 minutes okay lmao
    this has got to be almost every person ever that's sung an Eb1... surely...

      @@reubenthomas7907 true. Dan Britton sounds like shit too lol. yeah I think that was the only time JD used fry (intentional or not), though imo his best C1s are from "I'll have a new life", he fully sounds like a plucked baseline on a double bass and he's jumping up and down the arpeggios like it's nothing

    • @reubenthomas7907
      @reubenthomas7907 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewdockray9745 Yeah. I might cause some controversy here, but I think the G0 of JD's is fried. Mainly for these two reasons
      1) Since that C1 in Blessed assurance is fried we can say it certainly wasnt an easy note for him. Of course there are times he hit it without fry, but he even acknowledged this one interview saying that the C1 isnt an easy note to hit.
      2) the G0 happened in the 70's. There's another separate interview in the eighties, where JD sings an Eb1, and doesn't seem to have much below that. G0 is quite lower than Eb1, and since his voice became lower as he aged, it doesnt make sense for him to struggle on the Eb1. Unless that G0 wasnt chest in the first place.
      Some might say, " I heard JD speak down to B0 , he must have hit the G0 in chest". But these guys hear JD's voice from the 90's , and by that time he could cleanly hit C1's. Of course his voice was much lower than what it was when he sang the G0.

    I’ve discussed with a couple (8-9) oktavists as far as where they think musicality stops. They tend to say around Eb1-F1. Funnily enough, that’s where almost all of them ended up stopping at on the live interviews when it got around time to doing them haha! Out of all of these impressive Eb1’s, Alexander Ort’s stands out the most because the only one doing it by himself unmic’d and unmixed. And yet it still is the biggest one here, especially with good headphones.

    • @matthewdockray9745
      @matthewdockray9745  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I tend to agree, at least in backings and harmony. I think in main melody lines, below G#1 is a lot of the time just unnecessary and sounds kinda bad (especially in full voice), unless you can sort of do the Leonard fluttery soft voice thing, or keep it sounding smooth and musical (or you're zlatopolsky lol). In backings and harmonies etc, I'd be willing to say D1 is as low as is needed, below that it's just not necessary, and the sound quality has already decreased massively from say G1 anyway and a lot of the time it sounds quite poor

    • @reubenthomas7907
      @reubenthomas7907 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% true. That Eb1- F1 is pretty much where musicality stops. And seems like humans arent supposed to sing any lower than that and only very few exceptions can do so.

    • @reubenthomas7907
      @reubenthomas7907 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matthewdockray9745 Personally, that Bb1- G#1 is the sweet spot . F#1 and G1 sounds good depending on the person, and below Eb1 unless you are Ort or Zlatopolsky dont do it. And even them, seems unnecessary. All these are of course imo.

    • @redux1012
      @redux1012 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I’d say it maybe stops at a B0 cuz that’s when we sorta start to lose sense of pitch and it just sounds like fry afterwards. Cuz there are some super good sounding C1’s and D1’s out there but some of the B0’s and below mostly just sound like straight fry unless it’s really well controlled or is using a special technique of some sort

      Apparently chest. Matt said his lowest Chest on a good day (depending on phrasing etc) is Eb1, though he may have started a mix as it's part of a phrase. Listen carefully with headphones, there's some epic overtones that you can hear (Eb4 I think??) which is a good indicator of at least a strong chest mix, if not full chest

      @@matthewdockray9745 So guys , what Matt is doing is a M0 chest. M0 usually refers to fry register, but also means the lowest part of your chest voice( Usually you find M0 chest in lower second octave and below that). Our voice is divided into 4 laryngeal( voicebox) mechanisms. They are M0, M1,M2 M3. M stands for Mechanism. M1 for males is their modal and head voice, for females it means modal voice. M2 for Males is their falsetto , and for females, their head voice. M3 means whistle register for both male and female.
