    A great idea instead of expensive diesel heater when you're only off grid in the cold a few days a year. But this product has significant limitations. I bought mine from a different vendor in WA. Cut a hole in the floor of my small/mid sized van to admit the duct !! The product markets it suitable for campers and caravans on the box.. Something didnt seem right with it from the beginning. Eventually it would only light the pilot and not the heater. The fan is indeed very weak(not even as strong as a 'computer fan' and provides next to no flow. Ended up calling Gasmate warranties and recieved a full refund from the vendor without question. They seemed to know there was a problem with the product. I have an engineering background and tried every possibility. Despite limitations like not being able to run on in house 12V, and you can only run for 6 hrs max, and it shuts down after half an hour because the outlet can reach 58C. It says allow to 'stabilise' before restarting but doesnt say what that means. The product has a BTU rating that is not tabulated to air space and ambient air temperatures. The idea is so good, but the product is a DUD.

    I hope they come out with a smaller version for 1 or 2 person tents that I can take backpacking.

    How long will it last on one gas cylinder? (Same as fitted)

    • @tentworld

      There is 450g of gas in that little bottle. This heater uses 55g per hour so approx 8 hours

    What battery does it have? If it’s anything less than a lithium rechargeable it would be a nightmare if it was agm or lead acid.

    • @tentworld
      @tentworld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery is rated to last approx 6 hours on a full charge. This one does have lead acid in it, it is serviceable though - so if your battery does end up kicking it in then it is replaceable. That being said, if you do give your battery a charge every 3-6 months you will get good life out of a lead acid.

    If it's 0 degrees outside I'd want my tent warmer than 10 degrees using that thing. Was excited about this product until I heard that.

    • @tentworld
      @tentworld  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, agreed warmer would be nice and this is not for everyone..... But 10 degrees sure does take the edge off.

    I know this video is nearly 3 years old but is this product still available for sale? The link you provided in the description does not work and I cannot find the product in your website. Has it been discountinued? Gasmate still list it in their official website. Giving me the impression it's still available. Please advise.

      @@tentworld Great new! Looking forward to it. What is the ETA of this new unit? Will it have a 12V option to power the fan (Rather than simply relying on the built-in rechargeable battery? That way I can power it using my 12V auxiliary battery system in my 4WD. Perfect for multi-day remote camping trip with no access to 240V (charging the Gasmate battery through an inverter for 5 hours is not ideal).

    • @tentworld
      @tentworld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fatmanoverlanding they're running late unfortunately, and we think it might only arrive in June/July. We are lead to believe that direct running from 12v is possible, as well as some other features that have been commonly requested.

    Looks like a good option for people without Diesel heaters 👍, would be good to upgrade the Internal battery so it can run for more then 6 hours, hook it up to a 9kilo gas bottle laughing 👍👍

    • @tentworld
      @tentworld  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed it's a great option for many. Makes tent camping that much closer to having the same comforts as trailer or caravan. Small inverter to your battery system and the 9kg and away you go!

    It'd be worth it if it was maybe at least half this asking price, so $180. $369 "On special" is just too much for a heater

      @Budget Overland Australia Look at the cost of trying to convert an RV propane heater for this use. This is for cold weather and here in PNW (USA) this is a perfect item to take out. Diesel heaters are smelly and requires rigging to work. No this is a great item.

    Well seems the engineers bailed ship on this, this unit sits out side so the ambient temp it monitors is outside NO? , the useless fan needs to be addressed, ya gonna need to get remote to control the unit. Way over priced... Back to the drawing board with this un .

  • @MyIronman8
    @MyIronman8 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    that has bad reviews .

  • @jedics1

    The deal breaker here is that they didn't include a way of remotely turning it of and on from inside where the heat is going to, its an outside unit FFS...Employ some designers and do some user testing you dummies who made this.

    • @tentworld
      @tentworld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of improvement options we agree. Still, we have gone years without any options for tents at all. Great improvement from nothing!

      The trick to using this one Kman is to set it early, and leave it to run long. But agreed, its definitely no household heater.
