    Hi mate
    I've been servicing my BMW x3 diesel 3ltr for 8 years now using penrite enviro 5w/40 .
    The reason for the enviro additive, is to help burn off particulates in the dpf exhaust.
    I have done 400,000 km from new doing all my own servicing and have had not one problem with anything, except changing a battery and the usual brake pads, tyres etc.
    The service interval as specified in the book is every 25000 km, which I have followed for the engine oil changes, and never changed the transmission oil.
    I have been told by the BMW service technicians that they have been replacing the dpf (diesel particulates filter) on the X3 and the X5's at around 100,000 km mark if using full synthetic oil , but without the enviro additive.
    The diesel particulates filters cost thousands to replace and if driven around the city all the time, will block up within 80,000 kms.
    I'm a farmer that does mechanical work on a lot of different machinery and vehicles for over 30 years, and also own a landcruiser 100 series 4.2 turbo diesel, changing the oil at the 8000 km mark. Because mine doesn't have the exhaust filter , I don't have to worry about the additive in the oil .
    There is a product from penrite, that you can add to the fuel to do the same job as the oil additive, not sure of its name.
    Keep up the good work on the videos, as I've subscribed and given the thumbs up.

    Thanks for the video mate. Can i please ask...did you use a torque wrench to tighten the sump plug and oil filter? If so where did you find the torque settings for them? And im guessing you use a new sump plug washer each time ?

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I replace the sump plug washer frequently, but not every time. I do services every 5000km and find the washer lasts a few services.
      I do not torque the plug down but having done this exercise hundreds of times, I just have a feel for it. I would imagine it’s not too hard to find the torque settings.
      The filter housing does not torque, but is by the detent in the housing and the small metal tab the fits into it. Cheers👍😎

    Hi Terry, thanks for giving me the confidence to start my own servicing…did the oil and fuel filter change today all good. In respect of the oil and filter change, the oil pressure now seems a bit higher than previously when cold. Changed to Castrol Magnatec Diesel 15w/40 from Toyotas 10W30 maybe that’s why? When warm or at cruising it sits at quarter like it always did, just goes up to three quarters when warming up before dropping back to half and then when warmed up fully to quarter. We live in Gippsland VIC, temp rarely freezing, but colder in VIC than QLD nevertheless. Just wonder if temp high oil pressure is an issue at all???? (2014 GXL 140k.)

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good stuff Frank, I’m glad you have found some value here and it’s helped your confidence in giving it a crack yourself. Everyone started at the same spot mate, nobody was born with the knowledge😉. The thicker oil could explain the increase in pressure, but also new oil increases pressure as well. I find the same increase in pressure on my vehicles after a fresh oil change. Oil looses its viscosity as it ages over time, but you don’t notice it because it is so gradual. Even using the same weight oil on a change, you will see the pressure increase slightly. Bottom line, temporary increase in pressure is no problem and completely normal👍😎

      Hi Andrew, thanks for watching and great question. Firstly, no I have not done a video for the transmission oil change. Secondly, I absolutely do do it and HIGHLY recommend it. Toyota claim the transmission does not need servicing, I disagree 100%. I bought my car second hand with 63K on the clock. It was used for towing a van. One of the first things I did was change the ATF and the stuff the came out was almost black!! The previous owner did not have a lock up kit fitted so no doubt it saw temperatures well above 100C when they had the anchor on the back. I have since done it once more and it looked much better, a cherry red. I will continue to change it every 30K or so. That's my interval that I made up based on how I use the vehicle. The next time I change it I will definitely cut a video. Cheers!

    Yes you are totally correct about the dealer's almost voracious want to cancel the warranty. Had my car serviced out of state on a trip across Australia and when next presenting for a service at the selling dealer they noticed the service, but were not aware that the service was carried out by a Toyota dealer. The pumped up dolly bird behind the counter(she had a bigger bust measurement than her IQ statistics !, neither excessive) must have thought she was on some sort of spotters fee for cancelling me out....epic fail by her, and a total loss of respect for that dealer. I also purchased an extended warranty when buying and soon discovered it wasn't worth the time, money, or trouble involved. The extended warranty carried with it an escape clause before expiry with a proportional refund....good luck getting that back. I was totally ignored in all my attempts. Therefore, never again a Toyota. I have also taken to doing my own servicing, after finding that dealers stripped the threads of nearly all the bolts holding the engine and transmission plates in place.

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s bloody disappointing and poor form on Toyota’s behalf. When you’re one of the worlds largest manufacturers the first thing that gets tossed out the window is customer service and your experience exemplifies this. I feel for you John. Thanks for sharing your journey 😎👍

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be a couple of reasons. First, I trust you changed the filter as well? If not, that could be one reason. Secondly, assuming you did change the filter, you have to start the vehicle and idle it for 30 seconds or so. The oil pump will fill the new filter up and that will drop the level down on your dip stick. Cheers👍😎

      You can definitely do it, just take your time and you will be fine. It's difficult to comment on why your oil would turn black so quickly. Using my 200 as a comparison, it stays pretty clean between services (which I do every 5000km). A quick colour change indicates impurities in the engine oil. That can only get in there through fuel. Either incomplete combustion or over fueling. I would be asking your mechanic if it is normal for your car. Cheers

      @@JafffaAdventures Thank you very much for reply Terry. Much appreciated. Now I understand, we in UK do service at 10000 miles (roughly 16000 kms) and if car dosent do 10K miles we leave it for 2 years or more. Its the same 200 series, 4.5 V8 diesel engine with just 50000 miles but the long service intervals and all that abuse with irregular oil changes and filter changes might ve caused this black diesel. Instead of relying on long appointments from mechanics, i ll start doing on my own.

    • @JafffaAdventures
      @JafffaAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mal, great question mate. You are correct, I have not nor do I intend to for two reasons. Firstly, aftermarket plates weigh a lot more than the factory items. I’m not keen on adding more weight to an already heavy vehicle. Secondly, the factory items have worked fine for me up to this point. I don’t do a lot of intentional rock crawling and the like, so never really saw the need. Now watch having said that, on my next trip a giant rock will punch the sump😂. Hi Kevin. Thanks for the question mate. I just checked the part number you gave vs what I have here and you definitely have the right number. I was told from my dealer it is off a 79 Series. I guess the only thing I could suggest is buy it, try it out and return if it does not fit. I’m sure your 07 model is the same as my 10, the filter element is certainly identical. Alternatively, you could do a little more research on the 79 part number and try to match that up. Cheerss😎👍

      @@JafffaAdventures The oil filter you show part no: 15620-31060 is not compatible with the new facelift 200 diesel models. That housing is off a RAV4. For those who have diesel facelift models of the 200 series, you can purchase a metal housing. It is the 79 series version, and is compatible (Toyota technician confirmed yesterday). The only difference is that the 79 series version does not have the central oil drain plug underneath. Though, as stated in this video, more often than not the whole housing just turns anyway. The Toyota technician explained they dont bother with the central drain anyway and just remove the whole housing. Here is the part number for those with a facelift 200 series: 15620-51010
