    I’ve always wonder why there’s so much debris in the stage separation, is it ice or actual debris?

    • @t65bx25
      @t65bx25 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mostly just ice. Depending on the rocket, there can be some actual bits that fall off, like the cork engine bell rim on Falcon 9. Although, don’t forget that this is all suborbital so no matter what the debris is, you can be virtually sure that it will be incinerated by the atmosphere in the next 5-10 minutes after separation.

    • @dummyjoe7895
      @dummyjoe7895 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Landing isn’t feasible with how ULA launches. Soon tho Vulcan will be able to cover the engine. Tho which is “easier” then landing a while booster which the cost and development of doing that isn’t worth it to ULA.

    • @thasickest
      @thasickest 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dummyjoe7895 time to make that a part of the contract, with spacex showing 1000% efficiency with the upcoming 10th landing, exposing how much of a waste traditional disposable launches are and how much of it is an environmentally unsustainable way to space. This isn't progress.

    • @sabretechv2
      @sabretechv2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@thasickest how you came up with numbers like 1000% efficiency is hilarious. But a couple points you’re missing: ULA does primarily government and NSSL contacts, with orbits that wouldn’t even allow Falcon 9 or FH to be in the reusable configuration. The reason is because landing a booster hurts lift performance of the rocket. SpaceX also has a pretty weak upper stage, so you’re comparing apples to oranges. The theater of SpaceX and their propulsive landing is certainly cool, but you need to understand in the real world there’s a lot more to mission profiles and lift performance and c3 requirements than you’re thinking
