Saw them in 1979. Played on a round and tiered stage that rotated.
I second that emotion and the classic lineup was incredible live when I saw them at Madison Square Garden back in 1979.
Ok, "Awaken", is a religious experience.
Remember that without Yes, there would be no Rush. Just ask Geddy Lee. The guitar solo on the Yessongs version is awesome, as is the whole set.

Yes is made up of all eccentric geniuses, super creative, completely original. Try Roundabout live next.
He REALLY should hear the studio version first, regardless of the amazing live versions that are out there, IMO.

Mine too, and I’d have to also suggest finishing this album (And You And I), and adding Awaken. That is sooooooooo much to digest, but if that list doesn’t hook someone, then it’s just not meant to be, which is fine, if not a little disappointing. No matter what, it is utterly awesome to see younger folks digging on Yes!

They have a number of other possibly even better songs. Roundabout; Close to the Edge; Starship Trooper, etc. Siberian Khatru *might* be in their top ten. Maybe... There are few songs that compare to Roundabout.

Ladies and gentlemen YES the greatest show on earth. Came out fifty yrs ago, that song was the third track on a 3 track album called Close To The Edge. "Roundabout" off their 4th album called Fragile is a must. As for the lyrics Jon Anderson would use words for there sound and rhythm as opposed to there actual meaning thus focus more on the music and leave the words for fifty yrs later like I did. 🙏🍁

Prog rock is so complex. And this band performed songs like this live. Incredible! You should check out their album "Yessongs"
Quoting the vocalist Jon Anderson, "Khatru means 'as you wish' in the Yemeni dialect of Arabic. When we were working on it, I kept singing the word over and over again, even though I had no idea what it meant. I asked somebody to look it up for me, and when they told me the meaning, it worked for the song."
In terms of its lyrics, Anderson noted the song is a collection of "interesting words, though it does relate to the dreams of clear summer days."
I recommend you listen to the studio version of "Roundabout" next. It was their first huge hit and you'll see why!

I believe Jon Anderson, who wrote the lyrics said the word "KHATRU" means "as you wish' in Arabic, and this song, is the last track on the "Close To The Edge" album. This song is about unity across cultures. I googled this song, I'm not as familiar with this song as I am with the song that I suggested

Yes! Check out the live two-album set, Yessongs. Believe or not it sounds MUCH better live.

It's not really about anything. Jon Andersens vocals are more about how the words sound rather than what they mean.
If you read the words they don't make a lot of since but they sound great.
I agree. I've been listening to their music for decades and I don't know what most of the songs are about. But they sound amazing! And their musicianship and mastery of their craft is unsurpassed!

This is a 70’s band but I saw them live 5 years in an outside auditorium and they sounded just exactly as good.

Close to the Edge is THE Prog' Rock track to enjoy; it's the best!
OK I subscribed but will only stay if you keep playing more music by YES one of the greatest progressive rock groups of all time and my favorite band. Some good ones include "Roundabout", "Close to the Edge", "The Gates of Delirium". "Awaken", "Turn of the Century"... Loads of good ones.
This was quite an introduction. Progressive rock is a bit different. It's a favorite of a lot of musicians. Rush is somewhat progressive, with some smoothing out.
Yessongs triple live album will give all you are looking for. Most reators have yeyt to discover it. Shame. It's brilliant!
Don't get to wrapped up in the lyric. It's just a musical vocalizations intended to create a sense of place. Many Yes tunes from the early albums were written this way. Genius.

Sometimes YES lyrics are words that are like notes from an instrument. Don't they sound awesome? I asked Jon Anderson (singer), what it meant he said.. whatever you want it to mean. Basically.. when listening to this, just think of it as really and Insturmental.. then you get the lyrics.. there are a lot of fantastic YES compositions that do this in whole or in part.
Try Heart of The Sunrise next you won't be disappointed.

Best song ever? Well, there's gonna be some disagreement here. Some people say Close to the Edge, some say Gates of Delirium or And You And I or Heart of the Sunrise or South Side of the Sky or Roundabout or Turn of the Century or Starship Trooper or Perpetual Change or Yours Is No Disgrace. Some say this one. For me it'll forever and always be Awaken. I do encourage you to listen to all those others and more first though, on your way to my choice for the greatest.
